To his surprise Samir Soni finds an uncanny similarity between his real life and his role in Parichay — Nayee Zindagi Kay Sapno Ka on Colors . "The path I have travelled so far has led to many personal and professional ups and downs and the protagonist of Parichay too has been experiencing the different seasons of life," he says, drawing a parallel.
Tell him that he surprised many by making a comeback on the soap opera scene, he says, "Does that mean, I was not expected to be do television any more," he replies in good humour. He adds, "I was on a hiatus, as there were hardly any male-centric stories. When Ekta Kapoor offered me this role, what struck me the most was the realistic flavour of Parichay. It has a refreshing concept where you will not find any kitchen politics, nor does it have the typical rich family melodrama that has become synonymous with serials on the small screen. Rather you have a lawyer who is undergoing testing times in his personal and professional life, the chips are down and he is being pushed against the wall to face criticism. The lead is someone who had seen the positive and successful side of life, but now the coin has flipped and he is struggling to cope with the disappointments and crises that surround his life. In fact, failure has snatched from him the zest for life and he is being labelled as a loser. However, life presents him with a second chance to redeem himself. He is not your regular hero — Kunal Chopra is just the kind of guy you will bump in real life."
Samir who abandoned his comfortably placed life, and chose Mumbai over New York as he could not deter his passion for acting, has no regrets on his decision. "I have no complains," he says with a sheepish grin. He admits that the Bigg Boss exposure proved to be a turning point for him. "People actually got a closer picture of the real me. It was a tough job living under the constant camera glare. And if that exposure generates into good work, then nothing better than that," he says. "Right now my complete focus is on Parichay, and I am enjoying this new phase. Although the shooting hours are gruelling and involves a lot of hard work, I am not complaining. I am glad the way things are going at the moment," he concludes.
