A Night to Remember
Three
'I still wonder why you signed it in seconds after full month; you wanted to enjoy all this? My pleadings and begging to you? Huh?' she asked as she came out from the thoughts.
'No.'
'So?'
'I just wanted to give us a second chance.' He said it honestly.
There was a silence for a while; they chose not to say anything. She liked it but then, again, she was the one who discarded her thought, as it was gone. It was past. They are no more together.
'But then, I got call that Mom was not well, she needed me, Alzheimer's patient needs someone all the time, you know that, don't you? I decided in that immediate moment that I don't want this. I could not afford to lose her. I had to go back to US to be with my mother.' he added.
'And still, after six monthsā¦She left me, too! I took care of her for six whole months, I left my office, my business, my home in Delhi, I have got best doctors but nothing workedā¦She killed her herself Geetā¦I was a bad sonā¦Failed, I could not save my momā¦' he said with taut face, with bit regret in his eyes. She noticed, his eyes were wet, but she knew he would not break down in front her, it was his weakness.
She did not say anything as she knew about this, she got the news from Meera and she was sad but she could not do anything as her grief and pain did not allowed her to. She knew he was broken after his mother's death, she knew that it was not his fault she committed suicide, she was sick.
'She was sick, Maan! You did your best but even you know how this disease is! You are not a bad son at allā¦In fact you are a classic example of best son who left everything just to take care of his mother. If you would leave her alone in US then you would be, again, a classic example of failure. You are a good man, Maan! I think we were unfortunate and may be time was difficult. Okay?'
He did not say anything, just nodded his head. She understood from his gesture that he needed time, and he did not want to talk about that. She tried to change the topic, to bring him back from trance.
'Are we waiting for this floor to blown up? Why are we here?' she broke the silence.
'Because there is no other way, Geet!' He said, disappointedly. He did not like it to mention but he knew he had to. They were trapped, night was passing slowly. If there would been any other normal night in his life, then he would be in his office, working like a machine and he would try every possible thing to keep her memories out from his mind. This night was indeed special for them, as they met after long time, they hated each other, they had a bitter encounter and then, they survived one attack and they were together. The night was slow, dark, gloomy, horrifying, scary, and again, slow. It was for surely, a night to be remembered by him only if he would live.
'God! Why did I come here?' she said, stretching her arms wide and with a frustration in her eyes.
Maan got up and tried to open the door, and suddenly she got up and stopped him.
'What are you doing?'
'We have to go, I am going now, and you stay here. I will check if it's safe now and will be back to bring you. Okay?'
She was shocked, and scared at the thought of him, leaving her alone there. She pleaded with her eyes to him, not to leave her but then, she somehow gathered courage and allowed him. However, she was not sure whether she would be okay there, alone without him. Her heart was already pounding loud with fear.
'Take careā¦I will be waiting.' She said.
He was shocked as he remembered her words, few minutes back,
I hope you dieā¦
He smirked and left before she says anything and he would change his mind. She saw him going through the corridor, at the end of the corridor, it was fire, everything was burning and she knew that they had to leave this floor. She clutched onto her heart for a while and tried not to think about anything negative, but being alone there, she was scared and then, she heard few gunshots and she shuddered. She had to wait, but it was impossible for her, she was beginning to feel like sick as he was not there, she could not help but think about him and his well being. As soon as she heard another sound of gunshots, she was afraid and she lost all patience, she got up and opened the door and left from there to search him. She knew it was downright foolish and irresponsible, nevertheless she could not resist but to find him. She was restless, she had to calm herself down and only the sight of him, being safe would do that, she knew it. As soon as she ran down the stairs, she saw few dead bodies around there, on the cold floor, and there was no one alive there, her heart skipped a beat, she was searching for him, and within a few seconds, she heard another blast but it was due to fire on the other floor, which she just left. She was walking slowly without noise, and looking for him. And that was the moment when she saw him ā a man with a gun in his hand, trying to threatening some people over there, in the other corner of the floor, she felt like there was no blood left in her body, she was cold. She froze. She could not even felt her own heartbeats.
Before anyone catches her sight and kills her, out of nowhere, Maan came and held her tight from her waist; he clutched onto her hands tightly and led her to the corner, where no one can see them. She was still scared but having him with her, she felt relief, she was overwhelmed with emotion, she chocked for more air, and abruptly, she found herself in his embrace, warm, comfortable and secured. She felt protected, as she hugged him tight, and she threw her arms around his neck, what she did not noticed was the stream of tears slipping down her cheeks, and wetting his shirt. He hugged her back, as he found her safe, it was one particular moment, when both of them thought at the same time if that moment could last forever, if there would not have any problems between them, if they would have been together, happy and contented in each other's arms. But Maan was first to realize that it was just one moment, which came and gone. He was out, he was in real world and he knew that nothing would happen as he was dreaming with open eyes. In fact, he thought, he would ever be able to see her again, if this was his last night, and this thought, made him shivered, if it was last night with her, then, he would like to confess few things to her.
'Are you mad? Who asked you to come here? I asked you to stay thereā¦why?'
'ā¦I had to. Besides that, since when have I followed your orders?' she said, as she tried to avoid the feeling within her heart and not to disclose it to him. She knew why she came, she just came to check if he is alive or dead and she was dying every second when he was not with her.
With that, he quickly wiped her tears, and grabbed her hands, and moved ahead to find a way to get out from there, but it was not an easy task. As they were running, they heard few gunshots and he looked back, only to see that they were being followed by few men and they were attacking them, he asked to her get down, and he ran as fast as he could, and then, they found another room, where there were few people sitting down and crying, he correctly thought that they were trapped, before he could think much, someone asked them to sit down if they want to save their lives. Geet grabbed his hands, and made him sit in the corner, he was not ready, he wanted to find out the way but he was helpless yet again, like many other people there. Many of them were praying, some of them were crying their heart out for their loss and some of them were just shocked, literally shocked to react on anything. Geet led him to the corner of the room, they were surprisingly distant and unaccompanied in that big room, from all the people out there, she sat there for few seconds, and then, she started crying, she broke down after sudden realization,
'We are going to dieā¦Maanā¦I knowā¦they will not leave usā¦They will kill usā¦We will dieā¦I will dieā¦'
'ā¦noā¦Geetā¦look at meā¦look at me, lookā¦Geetā¦' he muttered.
She was much traumatized and panicked to listen to him, he could see and feel the goose bumps on her hands due to extreme fear and terror, he cupped her face, but she was still rattling on and on,
'We will dieā¦I knowā¦'
Even though Maan was not in state of speaking anything, as he silently started to believe that they would not survive this, he was for the first time in his life, helpless to such extent that he would kill himself but fail her. Even though, they had problems, but it never happened that she would ask for something and he would not provide it, he was her man, and somehow, she used to believe what he used to say, she asked for everything, she demanded everything from him, and he would, with a big smile and heart, give it to her ā just like he gave her divorce, she asked for it and he gave it. But, tonight, Maan was helpless as he could not make her believe that they would survive, because, he was not sure, still he tried his best to convince her, he tighten his grip,
'Geetā¦Look at me, look at me into my eyesā¦I promise, you will not die. We will get out from here, we will surviveā¦I promiseā¦'
'Are you sure?' she whispered.
He so wanted to say, I don't know about it, but if this is my last night, I just want to say, I love you.
'Yes' he stated.
And, he pulled her in his embrace and made her lean on him smoothly, in his lap. He tried to soothe her, he hugged her tight, to make her feel safe, to bury their fears deep down in his heart, to comfort her. After a while, she felt better and she settled herself but still she did not left his hand, she was distressed. She sat inched away from him, he hit his hand against the wall, and she gradually, rested her head on his broad shoulder, as she used to in past. A strange thought came to her mind, as realized that there were many people out there, almost everyone was stranger to her, some of them were alone and some of them with their family, even though she was with many people out there, she felt alone, and then, when she looked at him, felt his warm touch, she felt like, she was never alone. She had her whole world, by her side, comforting her.
'Are you okay?' he whispered.
I am. With you I am. She thought,
'Yeah' she said in a low voice.
'You sleep, you had terrible headache!' he murmured.
She did not say anything but remained still, as everything just stopped around her, she could not sleep, she thought.
'You canā¦I am here. Try. Close your eyes.' He whispered in her ears.
She was stunned at his understanding, she always knew that he was her mind reader, but even after three years, still, he could understand her, was a matter of shock for her. She closed her eyes, and tried not to think about anything, but eventually, she was surrounded by his memories, their memories, when they used to be happy, when they were together. How strange and hilarious irony that was, before few hours they did not wanted to see each other and now, they were together, in each other's embrace. He closed his eyes and he found himself in her arms, before three years, happily and naughtily.
They were happy together, they met in a conference and they started dating each other, initially, she did not like him, as she thought, he was egoistic and rude, but slowly and gradually, she fell for him as she knew that he was just the guy whom she would always love, no matter how rude he was and how blunt she was, she knew it in one moment that they were made for each other. They married after one year, thought it was not much time, they needed more space and time for each other but she was sure that she was right and she did right. Geet worked in a rival company and that was the biggest threat to her as she did not wanted to leave her current job where she was being paid handsome amount, eventually Maan tried to convince her to work in his own company but she refused and then, Maan agreed because he just wanted to see her happy, but still somewhere in his heart, he always wanted Geet to be with him, to work with him in his own company.
She laughed melodiously as he tickled her neck with his long sexy smooth fingers,
'STOP it! Maanā¦' she sang in his ears.
'Hmmmā¦' he whispered to her ears and then, crushed her to him. And, showered her with senseless kisses, she was lost in him, she gave in and she clutched onto him tightly and she dug her nails into his bare back. She closed her eyes in satisfaction, she was incredibly happy to feel that the beautiful man in her arms was forever hers. According to her, the best feeling was that, having the person whom you love limitlessly is in your arms and he loves you back with even more sincerity. Maan was her person and she was his girl.
After a while, she was resting her head on his chest as he was stroking her hairs and playing with her delicate fingers.
'Geetā¦I think that guy Yashā¦You should be careful with him. I mean there is something about him which makes me concerned.' He stated.
'Oh please Maanā¦you and your doubts! He is just a friend and I know he is just helping me. We are just working on one contract, that's it! By the way, he says I am lucky that I found you. Stop being overprotective, though I love you when you do that to me as I feel special⦠' she smiled.
'Oh really? And, I am not overprotective; I just don't want to see you hurt. Tell him that we both are lucky to have each other, and please try to stay away from him, I do not care about damn project, I do not mind, because I know I will get it, I am the best!' he smirked.
'Let's not bring competition in bedroom, Mr. Maan. I know you are best but don't forget, I am also your wife. And, I just love you so much when you are so possessive and overprotective for meā¦WOW! I so love my possessive hubbyā¦' she said and bit his earlobe and kissed him again and again, fondly.

'GEET!' he screamed on top of his lungs, as he entered the mansion, he was defeated and he certainly did not like it. He was a wounded tiger, he hated each second when he had to doubt on Geet, but he hated even more when his doubt found out to be true, it was she who cheated him. When the tender opened and he did not get the contract, his first reaction was shock but when he found out that his beloved wife and her company got it, he was happy and proud for his professional, independent wife. He already reserved their favorite VIP room in the most luxurious and grand hotel of the city, he wanted to celebrate it, he booked a table for two at the terrace, and he was in high spirits as he was going to surprise his wife, but when his loyal employee, Aditya found out from the friend that they were cheated, their information was leaked, he was shocked and angry, he did not believe it but after Aditya presented proofs, he had no option but to believe it. The same data was leaked from his own database, he knew only the closest person could do it and the only closet person on the earth to him was, Geet.
'What? Why are you screaming? What happened?' she asked normally coming from the bedroom, rubbing her eyes.
'What is all this?' and he threw all the papers and proof with utmost anger.
She quickly looked at those and she understood it in seconds what was wrong. She was also shocked, because she did not do anything but she had no idea who did it and on top of that, Maan was mad at her, he was fuming in anger, with him looking at her through 'I-will-kill-you' eyes, she could not think much.
'Iā¦Iā¦I really don't knowā¦how this happened, Maanā¦Trust meā¦I don't knowā¦'
'Shut up, just shut up.'
'I would give it all to you; if you, just once, ask for itā¦you did not need to cheat on meā¦'
'Maanā¦I have not cheated on you, I really don't know what happened?'
'I was expecting this.' He gave a bitter smirk.
'Ohā¦Pleaseā¦'
'You and Yash were planning this, huh? You could have asked me, I would give it to you for freeā¦You really did not need to do this unethical andā¦'
'Enoughā¦Don't cross your limits, Maan! Just STOP! I said, I don't knowā¦Don't bring Yash into this, he has nothing to do with thisā¦'
'ā¦Of course' with that he grabbed her hands possessively.
'Stop itā¦Leave meā¦' she pushed him hard and he left her.
'I did not knowā¦You would doā¦'
'Youā¦' and she slapped him, tight on his face. And, within next few seconds she realized what she had done and she placed on hand on her heart and other covering her mouth as she did not planned this, she wanted to share something, an incredibly wonderful news that she was carrying his baby, that she was proud for their unborn baby, his baby, their baby, that she was ready for another Maan in their life, she had already decided that they would have son, she decided his name even, after his name, because, he was everything that she had, and he was everything that she wanted. They were always sure that their son would have name after his father's name, it was Geet's wish and he, as usual, had to give in.
He was shocked, much shocked on her actions. His mind was clouded by confusions, anger, pain and rage. All he could see was betrayal and how his wife cheated on him, he was frozen for a second, she did not move, there was a scary silence between them and then, with a harsh look on his face, he said out loud,
'Get lostā¦GET OUT from here!' he was angry and he could not think anything with her looking at him with a hope. He wanted to stay alone for the night; he did not want her for the time being.
She was shocked, because for mere one mistake, and that too, for which she was unaware of, he kicked her out. She could not handle the pain scratching her heart and tearing it apart, those words said by him, broke her. She was sad and upset but it was for her dignity and self respect, she had to. Even though, Maan did not mean it, she took it to her heart, after all, if Maan was egoistic, then, she was also, Geet, his wife only, she had also same ego problems, she did not think about anything else and left his home the same night and in the same cloths, for once, she did not think about breaking the news of her pregnancy to him, for once, she did not think about it that, by disclosing this fact to him could have been save her life, save their relationship. She had her best friend who was a lawyer; she went to her and stayed there. For few days, he thought she would come back, he was expecting her, but she did not. He wanted her back but she did not.
After one week, on another rainy night, she was sitting by the window witnessing the power of nature, she was lost in her memories, and then, she reminded the cursed night when she left her home, his home. Soon, a deep, thick stream of tears made their mark on her cheeks, she wanted to go back to him, in his arms but she just could not. She was missing him, every single second without him was hell for her, but only thing that kept her alive was his baby, their baby, her Armaan. She mentally and fondly decided his name after his fathers name; she cried more as she realized that he did not even know that he was going to be a father. She felt guilty for not telling him about it, but she was waiting for right time and that never came, she found out after four days that it was indeed Yash who cheated her and eventually, indirectly and unknowingly she cheated him, she was shocked because Yash was her good friend even though Maan did not like it, she kept her relation with Yash, she knew Maan had doubts for him but she avoided him as she trusted Yash as a friend, but he betrayed her. She was beginning to feel like a fool who believed in Yash, but what Maan did that night was unbearable for her, she would never accept that and that was the reason she was not going back.
She was in her thoughts and suddenly, she felt pain in her abdomen, a sharp breath taking pain, and she chocked. It was unbearable for her, she clutched onto her stomach tightly, as she felt more and more pain, she wanted to scream but she felt like the sound of scream was stopped in her throat, and after few moments, she screamed out loud and fell onto the ground, unconscious.
When she opened her eyes after two hours, she was in bed, by window, rain did not stopped yet, in fact, it was stormier then. She saw her friend, Meera by her side, with tears in her eyes, she was not the woman who need to ask her what happened, she knew from her one look that she lost him, she lost his baby, their baby. Her Armaan was gone. She felt a stream of tears trailing down from her eyes to ears and then, wetting the pillow. She got up after a while, and then, she was a woman with rage and pain, she was not the same Geet anymore, she hated him. She cried for her lost son for about an hour and then, she wiped her tears with determination and rage. She knew what she wanted to do, she wanted to ruin him, she wanted to kill him because he killed her sonā¦Armaan was no more his son then, she decided to cut the cord from him. With a firm determination on her face, she called Meera to do something for her.
On the same night, same moment, he woke up with a upsetting feeling that something was wrong, he was sweating and he realized that he saw some horrible nightmare, same nightmare which happened in real with Geet on the other part of the city, the same nightmare for which she hated him, same nightmare which was her reality now, only the fact that he did not know was that, the nightmare became his life then. He got up uncontrollably and meaninglessly, started walking to the garden, he was drenched fully drenched. He walked on and on and not realized where he was, in the wild stormy rain, even he, himself, did not realized when a stream of sour tears started to slipping down his face hysterically and mixed with the sweet raindrops. He did not even know that he was crying, he did not know why he was crying, he was safe, as he was in rain, because, no one, absolutely no one, even his own soul would never know why he cried.
After two days, he received a divorce paper from her. He threw it away, as he wanted to give them a chance, he wanted to apologize. He did not sign it, he was already having mails from his mother's assistant regarding her weird behavior, he wanted to help her mother and at the same time, he wanted to Geet back, he wanted to give them another chance. He tried but she refused and the only way he found out to hold her back was, delaying the divorce. But after few months, his mother and her sickness being his weakness, he decided to end this, as he accepted that Geet would never come back. And, when his beloved mother killed herself, he lost all hopes and he gave up, he accepted that Geet was gone, he kicked her out and she would never ever come back.
