actor, who plays the role of Jassi's one-time love interest, Purab, explains
the logic behind what he calls his last and final walkout from Jassi.
Why have you staged so many exits from Jassi?
It's not something I enjoy doing. When I joined the show, I was narrated a
certain track for Purab.
As the show progressed, I found that what was promised wasn't
happening. This is why I left the show whenever I thought the character
was suffering. I have stopped shooting from the last four or five days.
What issues did you have this time around?
There were a couple of things I was unhappy with. Firstly, post-Jassi's
(Mona Singh) transformation, Purab had hardly anything to do on the
show. He was completely sidelined and reduced to being a nobody.
Secondly, according to the original track, there was supposed to be a love
triangle between Jassi, Purab and Armaan (Apoorva Agnihotri), which
eventually got lost. It has now turned into a Jassi-Armaan love story.
Where does that leave Purab? I don't think he is required on the show
anymore.
But the show does revolve around Jassi and Armaan…
I'm upset about the way a character (who is immensely loved by the
audience) was reduced to being a joke. I though it's completely unfair on
my part to continue being in the show when I am not convinced about it. I
didn't want my issue to be taken as creative interference.
For the last one month, I have been asking the producers to relieve me
from the serial. I don't think it is likely that I will be back on the show like
before.
Are you sure you won't return?
In the present circumstances, I don't think it possible. Audiences
shouldn't be taken for a ride. They are smart enough to figure out what is
happening.
Do you have any other work on hand?
I am currently doing Raell Padamsee's play, Anything But Love, with
Mandira Bedi, it's great fun; I am also being offered other shows. Right
now I'm chilling out and taking a well-deserved break.
Is it true that you had problems working with Apoorva (Armaan)?
I don't know who started this rumour, but there's no truth in this. I know
Appu since way back and we have good on-screen chemistry. I don't
know who says what once the shoot is over — I had no problems working
with him.
