yaaa............thts rite ......but i think ....sum ppl tend to get bore ....with the same stuff and same old routine so when they see sum otehr culture maybe they get attracted by it ............to strt sumthing new and to be sumthing different coz of which ....now ....the person who is total patriostic seems different 😆

i don't get what the infatuation these ppl (the indian media and movies and tv ppl) have with the western world. they try soooo hard to be western, so much so that it becomes unnatural, because it's an extreme that's not even true in the western countries. so in the indians' attempt to emulate the west, they make themselves look ridiculous, when the west appreciates indians for their indian-ness, not for their ability to be "western"

the other thing that i wanted to say is that many of the ppl whom i'm talking about have mistakenly assumed vulgarity to mean modernity. so the more vulgar you are, be it your clothes, your behavior, or your language, the indian mass media seems to think the more modern/western as well. it's a huge misconception. in fact, i have watched hindi movies and serials with some of my white friends, and they find the vulgarity very disgusting (as do i).

as far as pizza/pitza goes, i think on that front, if you're going to make yourself seem like you're the creme de la creme of society and you're very polished and refined, and that you're oh so modern, then please learn how to say the word right. dammit, it's not pitza. i don't care if random ppl you meet in teh street say pitza, but as the owner of a major call center, and as a member of a prominent family in the city, you shouldn't be saying "pitza". it's an english word (not italian mind you, pizza was developed in the US, fyi). so please say it like it's supposed to be said.

yeah..i agree...learning other culture and take good things from it, still good..but to get into that culture, leaves a person nowhere...and the end result is middle of nowhere....

Well at the end of the day, the main piont is why go out of your way to call it either pitzah or peetzah...... call it pizza only na. Why do they have to marofy an accent at all? Like we the people who are sitting here woshiping the crooked teeth that ornament Adi's gums will care enough to see whether or not he's got an accent to flaunt. We like him much better when he's saying his slightly punjabi hindi, atleast I do.

As far as accents go, we indians really are a very misinformed lot. We can't differentiate between the british and the american. We learn the british english and mostly our words comprise of accents that are our own. For us its not an accent, but for those who might come from another country, we carry an Indian accent. So untill we learn to differentiate between biscuits and cookies and the various undertones, we should stray away from accents, and just talk like normal indians yaar. Kya farak pardta, pizza chodo, vada pav khao.

charmingal, i agree with what you're saying, but it's missing the point i'm trying to make.

you're saying that waht's the need to put on an accent at all....i'm saying that saying "peetzah" is the proper pronunciation of the word, and hence, that is not an accent. pitzah is not the right way to say it, so saying pitzah would constitute puttign on a funky accent.

my other, and more important point, is that if you're gonna be portrayed as hip and modern and not "desi" (for lack of a better word) then please alter your language accordingly. besides, judging from adi's other dialogues ("yo, adi rocks") and his clothing, one would assume that he can speak english, albeit with an indian accent, but at least pronouncing day to day words properly. and also, in today's day and age, indian metropolises are sooo english-fied that accent/pronunciation shouldn't really be a problem. i mean, i'm assuming that adi the character didn't go to a hindi medium school, right?

aaannd.....tara vadera went to harvard!!!!! she's american return for crying out loud, and she was saying "pitzah" all over the place! what's the point of spending four years at harvard if you can't even pick up the word pizza?!

aaaallllsooooo, it's a freakin call center!!!! they're taught to have american/british accents there for god's sake! i rest my case.
