Chapter 56 – Anguish

Geet went to her room and closed the door. She sagged down on the floor. Her eyes were red and hot. She closed them but no water came out from her eyes while her heart bled. More than Naintara's or anybody else's words Maan's silence pierced her heart.

She opened her eyes when sun rays floating in the room forced them. She did not know how much time had passed.

Pari entered her room- "Get up Geet…it has been more than 16 hours and no one has eaten anything since yesterday afternoon…get up please. I have managed to get everyone down. Please come and eat something"

But Geet could not move. She sat like a statue. Pari sighed and forced her to get up. She dragged her to bathroom and washed her face. Pari – "Please Geet…come downstairs. No one will eat if you don't…Papaji hasn't even had his medicines"

Geet stared at Pari trying to comprehend the words she had just uttered. She nodded and walked with her downstairs. It did not matter that her hair was in mess and she had not even brushed. Nothing mattered to her anymore.

Everyone had spent their night in the rooms restless and in pain. Only exception was Maan who sat on the top of Aravali hill in a barren spot. As sunrays hit him he got up and stared at the vacuum ahead.

"5 steps…5 steps is all what it will take to end my misery" Maan moved ahead. With first step he remembered his dad's words – "It was my mistake to trust". With second step he remembered the slaps. With third step Geet's hazel eyes full of pain came in front of him. He froze and looked at the sprawling city down below. "2 more steps…but how can I? This is such an easy option….no…no this is no justice to that pain…I have to do justice…I have to bear pain of those eyes every day…every moment" His fingers curled into a fist as tears dropped out of his eyes.

He retraced his steps and drove back.

Maan entered to a quiet house. He looked at everybody sitting including his Geet. Maan shook his head "No…not his Geet…he lost that right"

Annie saw Maan enter and ran to him. "Bhaiya…where were you the whole night?"

He hung his head in shame and stood in front of Raj.

Raj waited for him to say something. When he didn't Raj started – "I have given you ample time to explain. If you don't have anything to say then I am deciding for you. You will marry Naintara as soon as possible. Usually it is a month but I will try to get an early date"

Maan spoke his first words – "NO!!"

Rishab came forward – "No….what do you mean by a no….you have ruined a girl's life…you have a sister who is standing next to you…what if someone had done this to her?"

Maan said unflinchingly – "I will pray to God that she never comes to face devil. I have already done enough damage. I can't ruin her entire life"

Raj asked loosing his patience now – "What do you mean Maan"

Maan continued in the same tone – "I am sorry for what I have done"

Juhi could not take it anymore – "Sorry!!!! You are sorry….it is not that simple Maan"

Maan spoke with a hardened voice– "I know but there is nothing more I can do. With all the love around me I still managed to break trust and betrayed the most gentle and golden heart. I am a monster. What is the guarantee that this monster inside me will not raise its head after marriage? No, I don't trust myself anymore. I will never touch a drop but alcohol is just an excuse. Alcohol just brings out your inner self. How can I chain an innocent girl into a loveless and betrayed life?

I will not do it. I will not ruin her any further than I have already done. Call police and complain against me. No names need to come out as I will accept all the charges. I know media will get involved but that's what a person like me deserves"

Naintara sucked in air getting scared – "What are you saying Maan…no I don't want any police…I want to marry you. I am fine…please…as I said there was no force…it was consensual…it was love"

Maan laughed mirthlessly – "Love…there was never love…never…moreover you are thinking short term…this is your entire life… how can be sure I will not betray you. Look at me…I am a monster…a devil…I don't deserve love….I don't deserve any one"

He again became stone-faced – "Do what you deem suitable punishment but I will not marry and spoil an innocent life. I don't deserve such kindness and she doesn't deserve this pain"

Saying this Maan walked off again without even giving as much as a glance at Geet. He could not. He was sacred to look into those eyes.

Chayiji spoke in anguish – "What does he mean?"

Raj tried to rationalize – "Well we can't force him…as Naintara said…it was consensual and she is also at some blame if not equal"

Rishab - "No Raj…I take full responsibility…give me some time Preeto…I will make him agree. He has to marry Naintara or I will disown him"

Geet almost ran into her room and closed the door. A small smile played on her lips. – "I knew it…I knew it…he can never betray me"

Maan's words resounded in her ears "I have betrayed the most gentle and golden heart. I am a monster."

Geet – "You are so wrong Maan…You are so wrong…You can never betray my heart. You love me. I don't know what happened…Maybe you thought it was me…maybe you made a mistake. I am hurt but I know you love me…you still love me"

Geet laid on her bed as tears trickled down her face for the first time. She felt her heart's anguish finally pouring out.

I can't take easy option after what I have done. I also know that you are brave and caring enough to not put your parents thru this. So nobody is dying Geet

Friends….I just want to put my point forward. Lot of you are asking for Maan to find the truth because he is a man….he is a doctor. I introduced this track to find answer in probably a very simplistic way to a question. We all identify pain when a woman is assaulted, raped or misbehaved with. But what if something similar thing happens to a man? Men are supposed to have more ego and more physical strength. So how does this affect them when their ego is shattered, when their dignity is mocked at? Will a man feel less pain…less shock? Will he be just able to get up and go about his life normally?

If a woman is taken advantage of, we will still want her man to look after her. How about when a man is taken advantage of?

i wish they should find the truth soon... cann't see them in pain... nt or uski mom should get punishment for their deed
