KESAR GULAAL SCENE
Kesar admits that he gets concerned and worried when she becomes quiet and does not talk. So Gulaal decides to talk at random asks him to eat the "kheer" that was getting cold. I think Mano mentioned this yesterday about this dialogue of "Kheer" getting cold.
Kesar decides to try a hand at another joke to get her to relax when he says that the small amount of Kheer in the context of his big time hunger is like "Oont ke muh me jeera". That makes her laugh. They both know they are lying, they both fool oneself for the other's sake, they both fast for other's welfare, what more do you want to term it love?
The smile was obviously forced. It showed on their faces that they forced the smiles. But the true feelings are evident in your eyes. Both Neil and Manasi actually did the scene really well, with the laughter on their lips but the sadness and pain in their eyes. Just beautiful.
He decides to leave her alone more so because he could not fake the smile any further and he walks out asking her to join for dinner. That scene when he looks at her was fantastic. He looks through the veil/the curtain. I felt it was symbolic of the transparent veil that divided their hearts from becoming one. There was so much pain and grief in Kesar because he stood helpless knowing the fact (or he thinks so) that he could never have her in his life and nothing could change the situation. But Gulaal on the other hand looks back into the mirror. She was saved from putting up the fake smile and she glanced at herself, in the wake of such an obvious truth regarding the need to fall in love if she has to keep this marriage from falling.
DINNER SCENE
I love the camaraderie between Sarufui and Kesar. She pokes fun at him and he is an equal even for Sarufui. It was sweet that he takes that affectinate pat or hit from her and smiles too. Yesterday he could happily tell her "aap mandir jaa rahi hain, kisi ration ke dukaan me nahi". And actually no one, not even Motaba speaks to her that way, in the sense that because of respect even Motaba does not dare to pass such remarks. But Kesar does respect her a lot but is so comfortable to be able to pass such remarks and still gets her love and affection. Sometimes I guess, being the youngest at home, helps in a way. He tried to hide the fact he was fasting and very smartly sweet talked them.
I notice that Gulaal smiles these days even when Sarufui says "tera pati". The scene where he actually tastes the food, he innocently says that they have forgotten to add salt. When the ritual was explained, he is surprised. When Sarufui declares that he should leave it aside because he can't actually have this tasteless food, he takes it as a challenge and says he wants to try because he wants to prove that men can practice this difficult ritual just like the women. But Kesar has never shied away in admitting his feelings. That was evident when he added saying if Gulaal will do, he too can eat this food. That was an added personal touch to his love for her. But the second time he has a spoonful, his reaction to that tasteful food is a marvel. It is not that he smilingly stuffs himself; his distaste to the bland saltless food was clear on his face. And madam Gulaal actually smiles seeing him eat that food for the challenge he had taken up. Wah Gulaal, kya baat hai? Such a transformation.
KESAR GULAAL SCENE
Gulaal calls out to Kesar. Kesar can sense her troubled look even through the rear view mirror. When she says that he should not have done this, his question to her was "Ab kya kiya maine?". That was so sweet because he always gets a sermon for simple and large issues and it was his confusion as if asking"Now what mistake have I done now that I get confronted?"
She mentions "Tu ne vrat rakha hai mere saath". He does not obviously want her to know and doesn't readily give in. Kesar tries his best to deny it saying 'Varat and me,no ways, kuch bhi bolti hai, don't you know I can't bear hunger. A stern gaze from her showed that she did not buy his theory so he goes on to admit saying "Aur kya karta?" Obviously he had to fast along with her when she was fasting for him for their marriage that had numbered days for an annulment.
He has come to accept that he is not part of her life of happiness (which she chooses) but instead he has decided to be her partner for her sorrows and pain. A relationship is based on mutual trust and loyalty to support in good and bad times. When she is not making him part of the happiness in her life, he volunteers to be a partner in sorrow. He has promised that to himself if not to others and he needs to strictly abide by that. He too lives for the present of however little, their time together would be.
That moves her to tears, seeing the honesty of his feelings for her.
I like what Sarufui tells Gulaal. If she keeps waiting for her husband with a true heart, he would run home leaving all other jobs because "Feelings of heart convey more than spoken words". That is all about having a soulful connection between companions, the soul-mate theory mentioned again.
KESAR WITH KUNAL
Kesar is happy to see Kunal. When he was sent away, his talk with Kunal's mom was good. His expressions were extremely good there. When his mother tells him not to consider Kunal as a hypocrite who speaks against bribery having accepted the dowry from his family, Kesar is first taken aback. Slowly he understands that there is more to this behind the scenes alliance and gradually learns the truth. He is angered by the revelation that Dushyant is involved behind this money transaction. But very maturely he handles the situation. Without creating an immediate fuss or getting wild at them, probably because he has learnt to curb his anger after that talk he had with Gulaal, he decides to leave without further delay. In spite of that, he is civil to Kunal and leaves saying he had actually come to invite them for the Puja/veneration. Kesar has really matured over time. He has learnt that his anger can destroy another person's life. And more so Talli's life was involved in this. It is extremely endearing to see this side of Kesar who takes charge of the situation and also knows to handle them well. Even when he comes back home, he does not go directly to Motaba or anyone else, or even to Gulaal. He decides to confront the issue with the person concerned, which was Dushyant.
I am actually interested to see this scene between Kesar and Dushyant. Neil obviously is a fanatstic actor. I really like Sushant Singh's acting too. It would be interesting to watch out for a scene between these two. I really hope that I can get to see a proper scene between Kesar and Dushyant. I am selfish here when I say I don't want Gulaal's involvement quickly into the scene. Though I would call myself a feminist, I still believe certain issues have to be sorted between men without the involvement of women.
