Like A Beacon Burning Endlessly Bright
(title from Air Supply's song Making love out of Nothing at all!)

I am not yours, not lost in you,
Not lost, although I long to be
Lost as a candle lit at noon,
Lost as a snowflake in the sea.
(Sarah Teasdale)

*still stuck in wonderland over the last scene* ... but anyway. I doubt I'm going to find enough patience to sit through the chronology of events, so my ramble might be more character oriented (read: priority oriented)

Insecure Kesuda 😳 ? and Confuzzling Galool !!!

Before I get on with 'serious matters' - did anyone notice Kesar's timing in interrupting SD? Just when she's saying is god mein ek chotta sa, pyaara sa... *interruption by Kesar* - Sarufui! I went ROFL at the pun of his timing, a trivial detail - but still. Almost like a 'new baby in the house' will threaten his 'baby of the house' importance! 😆 Specially the fact that this wishfully wanted new comer will be chotta sa, pyara sa in Gulaal's god?! Kabhi nahin! 😆 On another side note, I was smug yet again, when Kesar jumped the gun and literally blurted out the truth - as I said the other day, JK was baiting the wrong target in Gulaal. The one to provoke into spilling the beans had to be Kesar all along - he, if anyone, is the only person who'd give in to this impulse and tell SD the truth - which btw, with each day, I think she already knows.

On to the serious dialog they exchange - I love the way their talk opens:
G:tu kya kar raha hai Kesar?
K: Main kya kara hu? Gulaal tu kya kari hai!!!

It is from this very point that we know who's talking logic, and who's talking emo gibberish. Gulaal is going round in circles and making no sense, not to mention she has no sound argument to back up her debate. Her statements are paradox much - one moment they are friends, the other moment they are a married couple and she has moral obligations as a wife; one moment she's pretending for SD and MB and Giga's sake, the other moment she's obliging no one but following her own conviction as a 'wife'; one moment they are a couple but 2 months away from separation, the other moment she considers fasting for a 'happy married life' part of her duty as a wife. I have to admit I didn't see Gulaal coming around even half way, so fast! Yesterday, I had imagined she would say something along the lines of doing it for Kesar's welfare - and although that would be a statement with just as much innate contradiction - I frankly did not imagine her telling Kesar she was doing the 'wifey vrat', as a wife, with the intention of one! Whoa much!

But before I forget - entirely to Gulaal's credit is her confession that the rishta, the DV, it's all been her choice... and she must bear the consequences. Hallelujah to hearing those words from Gulaal. Even though I doubt she understands it half as much as she should - truth is, the words coming from her are such a huge advance in her usually clouded reasoning. The fact that she would say such a thing - even in the momentum of her argument - indicates the thought itself has crossed her mind at some level - and isn't it about time! We've all long said how the one thing Gulaal has never done well is stand up with her own decision of DV. Bear its consequences, because willing or imposed, the DV was her call, at the end of the day. And hearing it from her today - was such so much assurance of her coming around. Specially the fact, that even when Kesar tries to brush off that responsibility she's taking, she insists it is hers. My slight glitch? The fact that she calls it a 'mistake' - but then again, in a way, it was, and his. She was never prepared to be Kesar's wife, so the DV had been a mistake in that sense. The fact that it will eventually all resolve doesn't take away her initial lack of judgment. But anyway, way to Gulaal! Something right in your otherwise warped reasoning!

Moving on to Kesar, even lesser perhaps, did I foresee his reaction. This is where his character truly shines and stands out in a world of prototype male protagonists! True to his sketch, he doesn't jump at getting that confession from her - not even secretly inside, not for a second does it evoke an inkling of happiness in him - no sir! He's bothered, he's confused, and he's somewhat frustrated at why Gulaal is complicating the matter so much! His logic in this perspective is almost unbelievable for how objective it is - because Gulaal's allusive confession of 'being his wife' doesn't overwhelm him or render him incapable of seeing how self contradictory her statements are! He doesn't really give in to Gulaal - but his protest is cut short; SD gives him a fond elders chiding but he doesn't care - he's only thinking abut what the hell is happening here! 😆 Kudos to the CVs t bring out such maturity from this guy - because given his clarity of mind for a while now, being swept off his feet at that sign from Gulaal today would have been sheer disappointment, and unjustified hastening of GK track.

BTW - on a lighter note, SD's telling off session to Kesar was CLASSIC 🤣 Dude, this woman gives JK major run for her money! 😆 And everyone else in the kitchen (minus Galool ofc) laughing at the poor baby - bloody schadenfreudians! *shakes head*

SPECIAL MENTION TO D-K scene at this point!!!
OMG OMG OMG! We finally got one real interaction between these 2! Too bad it had to be on the wrong side, and too bad the precap looks like the wrong side is going to find more ground to evolve... sigh! But honestly, I've thought these two deserving of common screen space SO long! Eventually, this wrong footing is going to clear into a bonding of some kind, I'm certain. Because the biggest hardest truth Kesar could know about Dushyant, he already does. (Oh, assuming her never learns of Dushyant kidnapping Gulaal - which being a matter purely between D-G can never really come out, I think!) But for now, this scene was so well executed. I like how Dushyant too has found the comfort in their newly growing mutual ease to vent a bad mood on Kesar. Dushyant of weeks ago would have been a lot more alert before giving Kesar a mood swing doze like today! On the other hand, the fact that Kesar doesn't jump to conclusions about Dushy's mood, and is only intrigued, shows so much growth in his character from weeks ago too - when he would jump at chance and make his own conclusions. I really like the way he's given Dushyant this space - and the fact that Gulaal lies at the bottom of it all - his reform, as well as Dushyant's ofc!

Moving on, Kesar sure woke up on the wrong side of his 'floor bed' - if he slept at all what with Ludo and fun. First Gulaal, then SD, then Dushyant... and even Talli! He seems to be stepping on everyone's toes, without meaning to, lol! The way Talli pulled that box away from him and gave him the look - 😆 - I was like, just one of those days when everyone gets an upper hand, even Talli-ites! 😆 Skipping Kulli dialog - which was just a tad better cause Tall wasn't being a zombie - thank heavens the woman has finally gotten her resolve in place. I suppose this truly is the beginning of the T-K end! Amen to that! 😆 Oh btw, the way Kesar stands in her room and tells her to baat kar - I'm like, damn! Talli's intrusive habits are totally rubbing off! Or maybe this is just his secret sweet vengeance 😆 Also, although I hate elaborating on Talli scenes - I think Talli needed that Gulaal doze yesterday for a reason. It was almost like until yesterday, she know subconsciously that someone in the house, other than her own self was just as doubtful about this new phase in her life - that someone being Gulaal. Even as to her face, Talli would give her assurance, in a way, I think, Gulaal's doubts were airing Talli's lack of conviction whether or not she realized. The way Kesar had assured her that first night of her decision about its being right, Gulaal's stamp of assurance was needed. And consequently, it proved necessary in finally taking her true leap of faith.

Back to GK - and their scene of the day?! ☺️ Oh maybe this can be scene of the series, given its faaar reaching consequences to be! 😆

Firstly despite what you said on the EDT Reemz and Nur, about Gulaal getting spooked by his long fiery look - I thought Gulaal was a stunner the way she went on and on about his not eating - dude, he wasn't staring, but glaring at her, without batting an eyelid, and she actually withstood several moments of it, before *cough* taking the hint 🤣 BRAVO Galool! 😎 [Can't say if he's fasting for her. TBH, I think not. I don't think he appreciates this Gulaal fasting business at all - it has disturbed him all day, he has not taken one second of even subconscious pleasure in the fact that she's doing it, and its such a contrast from the time he was ready to fool himself about her having fasted for his sake at the Vatt Savitri. This evolved and matured Kesar is misunderstanding nothing - or let's say, he's running too much by logic to give the thought a chance, that this time round Gulaal may actually have if only an iota of her heart to the commitment! Like Nur says, he's not the brightest bulb to envisage that. But in his defense, he's been snubbed about his love enough and long to be a bright bulb 😆 Anyway, to him, this entire fasting has been a huge burden - all he can see about it is Gulaal putting up with rituals and situations contrary to her wishes, her morning dialog on dharam as a wife is not something he buys for its literal meaning, and hence, he's heaving bogged down by her purpose! Just as she was... some days ago. But the stark difference in her confusion and his confusion is hence. Gulaal was confused by personal choice. The truth had always been evident and glaring at her - Kesar had been blunt and candid about everything, and whatever she misconstrued was entirely the doing of her own ostrich approach. On the other hand, Kesar is majorly confused about her intention at this point, because she is confused. He has learned to read her and understand her unexpressed signs so well - that it has baffled him all day long to not be able to understand her paradoxial line of reasoning since morning. And so I think his 'accidental' fasting is not favor returned, but genuinely forgotten meals.. he's been too occupied - by Gulaal's mystery, and as fate will have it, Dushyant's mystery peaking on the same day too! [Hate to be the romance dashing kill joy here, but I really think that's how it is, about his 'fasting' 😳 ]

Anyway - moving on to the dialog itself - one more time - so proud of Gulaal to come through honestly. I'm s relieved to find this version of her which is not patronizing, and now - not playing hide and seek with herself at all! Somehow this night time confronted dialog totally settles any criticism for her morning contradictory remarks. Her self - contradiction, as becomes obvious, is the doing of her inner confusion and dilemma. The lack of answers inside of her head. She truly is lost... and the fact that she admits it - undaunted by Kesar's physical or tempered predominance in the scene - is laudable! 👏 Of course, underlying credit to the CVs to have brought GK to this stage with so much conviction, that Gulaal speaking her most complicated truth herself - before Kesar - seems like a confession that had been awaiting its perfect moment, and just managed to fit its piece into the big jigsaw!

I love Mansi's acting at this point - when Kesar comes and grabs her arm, the flickering fear for a moment in her eyes is not from his touch this time, or the proximity... the fact that she can't meet his eye, has to move out of his grip and away from his gaze to reply, is not about averting or playing ostrich again - but simply been weighed by her own dilemma. She admits she doesn't know why. She admits the family means everything for her, and their happiness is all she ever wants. And when he counters that with the obvious question about the DV she's breaking which is all about shattering the family's dreams - she makes her hardest confession. The flow of this scene, the dialog, its timing - and the build up for this moment through the past two weeks - 👏 there are never enough words to praise the CVs and their foresight with the plot! The beauty of Kesar countering her with the DV question is that he's not taunting her, much less baiting her for an answer he would die to hear from her - no... he's still plainly pursuing his quest to get her answers. The fact that she doesn't have any, doesn't soothe him, but he believes her - because she is speaking the truth, and the Kesar that he has now become can tell when Gulaal is speaking only the truth. And so, instead of raising more questions, or pressing the matter - when she wishfully mentions if there was a miracle... he names the answer for her. Without a moment of doubt, hesitance, of hold back. The same Kesar, who is striving to do anything and everything only to make her happy - who has understood in all these past days that his love claims upset and unsettle her and has kept it all at bay, put his emotions aside, gives her that loud and clear answer today - because for the first time, he can see that without knowing Gulaal has confessed the means to her greatest happiness - in being with him. He doesn't say it, because he thinks he can take his chance at her vulnerable moment and show her sense his way - no, he truly believes, it is what she's thinking too, except she doesn't realize. The fact that she wishes for a miracle to retain her in this house is evidence enough for him, that if not knowingly, then on a subconscious level her mind has begun to untangle the threads and slowly makes it way towards the conclusion that he gives her upon straight - the miracle is falling back in love with him.

Interestingly, what even Kesar doesn't realize or see, is that the process is already in motion. He can fathom that she's getting closer to seeking her miracle answer to her problem - and he gives her the answer because unlike her, he can see it clearly - the second she words her 'wish for the miracle'. But he's no closer to believing than before that 'the miracle' itself is happening, or can, or will. The softening of his voice, is not in hope, but in resignation, at this point...

Again - I thought it was phenomenal that the answer Kesar gives her is not about accepting him as her husband, but falling in love with him. Because technically, there is a huge difference in the two scenarios. If Gulaal was to stay back in the house accepting their relationship only - she would get her family, but not her miracle of happiness. The true miracle is this forbidden love. And that alone. And the fact that Kesar's answer innately makes that distinction for her is ... ! 👏

Long long rambling today - I haven't even gone into the other characters in detail - although Dushyant as always had me very gripped in his chain of events and I eagerly await the way this showdown will now unfold... but more than anything else of course - I suppose we all await the completion of the finale scene that was left at such a point of tempting ambiguity! One thing we know for sure - Gulaal is not going to be flexing her claws at Kesar's neck anytime soon. For sure. 😆

Comments/arguments welcome as always!

You've said it all yaar...and so eloquently so👏👏👏 I truly have nothing much more to add...you haven't left anything😆

Especially love how you summed up this bit in bold😍...there are sooo many layers to these two seriously *shakes head in wonder*...indeed there is a huge difference b/w accepting him as her husband and actually falling in love with him...the latter is the miracle that Kesar has long since given up hoping for...but nevertheless that didn't stop him from stating it as the obvious fact.

I also loved that you pointed out how off-balance Gulaal was in the bit since he grabs her arm and confronts her...even before that, yes she did ask him to eat the kheer but she wasn't really meeting his glare head on either😆...so when he grabs her arm, there is even that slight tremor in her voice as she says..."K...kya kar rahi hoon main?"...she is so confused...like you said, we could clearly see who was talking sense today and who was talking emotional gibberish that just doesn't add up😆...today Gulaal came up with the "dharam" excuse in the first scene...but by the ending scene, Kesar basically called her bluff in some sense and when confronted directly, she had no answer...upar se Kesar stumped her with the ultimate googly😆

I've developed an irritating headache over the past couple of hours so my words may sound gibberish.

What can I say that you haven't already said so beautifully? I won't do justice :P

The last scene was on a subconscious level a confession from Gulaal that she doesn't want to leave him. She had already left the house and on her return, she claimed to have lost her soul...the soul which Kesar has brought back not her family. When she came back, the family was still there as was the love from the likes of MotaBa and PaanBa but she remained somewhat an outsider till her equation with Kesar changed gradually. That's the truth! She was miserable, lonely and bitter woman in that very house, amongst those same people. Why wasn't she happy then? She had the entire family with her yet she felt lonely (exclude JK and Sudha initially).

At the back of my mind I had always imagined Kesar leaving the house for Gulaal's sake because he knows how integral the house is to her identity but I guess neither of them understand that now if Gulaal were to to stay in the house without Kesar then she would be a lost soul again.

That is why the last scene had so many layers to it. She claims nothing matters more to her than this family yet she left the house because of Kesar, she came back because of him too and now she is HAPPY due to him as well.

The words 'anjaane se' (unknowingly) said a lot. She is wishing that a miracle happens without her even realising (well it's coming true!) and Kesar, who wears his heart on his sleeve only knew of one answer...she would have to fall in love with him. Like you said, if he had said 'you have to accept me as your husband' that would have implied a compromise but falling in love is whole new ball game but it is the ONLY way Gulaal can maintain the happiness she has received in abundance recently i.e. THIS is love.

Fab fab fab post Jzee! One of your best I'd say! Please don't mind any spelling/grammatical errors as I need to rest my head for a bit.

TBH, I played the scene in the BG while writing the post ... it's like every single line matters. I love that thing about the script for this show. There is absolutely no redundancy of dialog, at least in the most important scenes - although mostly overall too, they accomplish the feat (: The fact that even SD's comical reproach of Kesar for worrying about Gulaal ends up having an underlying meaning which differently but still applies to GK is simply incredible! They utilize every word for its worth, and I thought it only fair to be hearing the lines while I wrote out the post, because I'm always missing something or the other I have to say 😆

As I said on Reemz thread, the distinction between falling in love with him vs accepting im as a husband is exactly what you both were saying yesterday - about Gulaal not just going to him because he cares and love! The way Kesar lays out that rule between them - of the only way they can be and will be together is in 'mutual' love is phenomenal in the way it raises the bar of his own love. That his love is not just looking for an excuse to sustain itself, that it will remain no matter what, and the only way she can truly share it, is by giving it back to him... Fair enough. Although he's not intending it as a condition for her - thing is, that's what it becomes now. And the way he jumps to tell her that answer - the way that its' lying ready to be told to her - is all indicative of how many times Kesar has thought of this miracle that she names for the first time. The way his eyes start at her words, is like he's hearing her say words that have been inside of his head for long now... because to Kesar, ever since his reform has happened, the idea of a miracle is their happily ever after - a miracle he has made peace with never coming true, but a miracle that he has full understanding of! And so Gulaal's mere mention is all it takes, for him to give her the answer - he's had it for himself for a long time! So he makes no mistake there!

Will post CAPS in a few more minutes :-)

👏 👏 👏 Very well said Reemz - your headache is certainly not influencing your GK logic 😆 No seriously, that's what! When Kesar echoed back her own question at her - of why she was doing all this? the moment he added, why she was doing it for the house and the family - I went all, er no... she's doing it for YOU! She doesn't realize, and of course she's snubbed you too long about it for you to realize (Nur's not so bright bulb boy 😆 ) but that doesn't change the fact! Somewhere I think, the realization about this - about his exclusivity to this entire matter - will strike Gulaal before it hits Kesar. Because honestly, these are her answers to seek - and she will eventually come to them. And what a wonderful scene it will be to watch, when she lays out these facts for lover boy?! 😍 When she tells him she can't leave the house because he is here. When she tells him what matters most to her is he, and his happiness! ☺️

At the back of my mind I had always imagined Kesar leaving the house for Gulaal's sake because he knows how integral the house is to her identity but I guess neither of them understand that now if Gulaal were to to stay in the house without Kesar then she would be a lost soul again. - Yeh, ironic isn't it? How many of us thought like that at one point though we didn't want it to happen so?!

That is why the last scene had so many layers to it. She claims nothing matters more to her than this family yet she left the house because of Kesar, she came back because of him too and now she is HAPPY due to him as well.
