"Living alone in the city has its own advantages and disadvantages. The positives include living in peace without answering to anyone or partying whenever you like. But not having trusted friends can be a hindrance. Also, it might get a little problematic if you don't have a strong security in a place like a pub."

Tanuja Chandra
"There's no place like Mumbai. It's vibrant, busy, connected to the world and, most importantly, it's safe. Although I live with my parents, I have all the independence. I don't live the cliched single life which comprises habitual socialising and clubbing. Nevertheless, for a single woman, Mumbai is a comfortable place to be in, even though one has to deal with dirt, grime, traffic, pouring rains, corruption and noise. Mumbai, although busy and brutal in its own way, is a friendly place. You can easily meet people of your kind, whatever that may be, and you can be part of an environment that is intelligent, progressive and fun. It's also a healthy place for women to live alone — many young, single girls find safe and clean accommodation. It's a huge city but all parts of it are buzzing with commerce. So, wherever your job may be situated, you will be connected to the urban arteries of Mumbai. The bad thing is that it is quite an expensive city. You need to be earning well to lead even a semi-comfortable life. Like most cities in India, there is crime here, but a woman stepping into an auto late at night is not safer anywhere else in the country."

ROHIT KHURANA
"After a hectic day at work when I come home and realise that there is no one to inquire about my day, I feel depressed. If my friends are busy, the situation worsens. There are some advantages. Sometimes, if I work through the night, I don't have to worry about the fact that someone is waiting for me. It also gives freedom of doing what I like. Neighbours don't really bother me and I can party at my place whole night."

Alankrita Shrivastava
"I don't think there is anything very difficult about being single. Mumbai is very conducive to single people. Also, I have been managing everything for eight years now. If I have to arrange a party, it just takes me 15 minutes. I am not accountable to anyone and I feel like a queen of the universe. It is very convenient for a single person. The only disadvantage is that people are suspicious while renting their house. Since I don't own a house, I have encountered this problem. People grow suspicious when they come to know that I am single and working in the film industry. I just feel this sort of discrimination is not justified."

ASHMIT PATEL
"I am happy being single in the city. Enjoying my life, partying with friends and having fun is what defines my life. I am making the most of being single and living alone. The best part is that you don't have to worry about making a relationship work and making your partner happy. Sometimes there is a need of a companion but I have many friends to depend on. I love being single and living alone in the city."

Monica Bedi
"I have been staying alone for a long time now. I am pretty comfortable with it. And specially when I see my married friends fighting over petty issues, giving explanations to each other and handling the stress that comes with it. I feel relaxed that I am not a part of that. Staying alone, I can go out with my friends anytime I want to without being answerable to anyone. There is peace of mind. But there are positives and negatives of everything. Right now, I am working, busy with things, so it is fine. I think I will miss the company of a partner when I will grow old. It is important to have someone by your side. Recently, I renovated my house so it was very difficult to manage everything alone. I thought it would have been better if I had a man in my life."
