Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif party after Mumbai blasts

Courtesy: Star News, NDTV.

Even before 50 hours had passed after the disturbing Mumbai blasts, which took away several lives and injured even more, Shahrukh Khan was having a gala time in a bash he threw at his home for many other stars. The Indian media blasted Shahrukh and co for their behaviour. Watch the video below. For those who don't understand Hindi, refer my translation.

While the whole country was mourning the deaths of innocent people killed and were praying for the injured and the families affected after the blasts that shook Mumbai, SRK threw a big bash at his home and was seen partying late into the night in the SAME city. Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Abhay Deol, Karan Johar, Farhan Akhtar, Karihsma Kapoor etc. were present at the celebration. The question being raised here is, SRK, who is seen as an icon and is idolised by the youth, is seen displaying such shameful behaviour. Isn't it like rubbing salt into the wounds of affected families?

People are not bothered about his personal life, but isn't being a youth icon a bigger responsiblity than just tweeting something telling you are severely saddened, depressed and devastated and then the next day you are seen partying? This incident proves the double-faced nature of Shahrukh Khan. At least he should have waited until everything came back to normal or postponed the party since this party was really not needed at this hour. He should've learnt something from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who despite travelling all the way to Delhi along with her whole family in her pregnant state to receive her international award but decided to cancel the awards mid-way, right after the news reached the place.

We expected a similar behaviour from Shahrukh, but how shameful it is, that he behaves this way. It also exposes the double faced nature of such actors. Those affected by the blasts were a part of their fans and these actors are stars because these PEOPLE made them stars. In an instance like this, if you cannot support them financially or share their sorrows, at least stay connected to people emotionally, but partying and celebrating at this hour is a disgrace.

In an other instance, several politicians and celebrities were having a gala time at a fashion show. which was held just 2 hours after the blasts occured. Several ministers and leaders, also Anushka Sharma, Mugdha Godse, Madhur Bhandarkar, Suresh Oberoi participated in the party.

"Even after incidents like these, life doesn't come to a standstill. We should continue doing whatever we are doing," said India's tourism minister Subodh Kant Sahay. That means he KNEW the crisis Mumbai was facing, but couldn't stop himself from turning up at a fashion show. Why not show up at the victims' homes and share there sorrows instead? After all, as a politician, your job is to serve the people! That's why they VOTED for you.

Mugdha Godse though had no idea she was partying on the 'wrong' day. But she had an advice for the government. "State and central government should pull up their socks," she said, when asked to comment on the Mumbai blasts. Mugdha, this is a democracy remember? Excuse me, but isn't it the SAME government that you people VOTED for?

On the other hand Madhur Bhandarkar, when asked about his presence, said: "I am sad. I didn't want to come on a day like this. But again he (Ashok Pradhan) is a dear friend. I couldn't skip it." You can postpone a film just like that but it would have cost your life had you missed this show. Yeah right.

After having cancelled her international award in Delhi, Aishwarya Rai, was supposed to attend the French National Day celebrations and a fashion show in Mumbai yesterday. The celebrations went on as planned initially, but Ash chose to skip them saying "This is not the time to celebrate."

Why blame only celebs? Check this out:

Blasts aftermath: Mumbai moves on with Potter and popcorn

Outside the ticket counter of a popular city multiplex, the crowd is buzzing. Tempers are getting frayed. I hear a woman shout exasperatedly at her teenage daughter, "Well next time maybe you can get ready on time."

Tickets for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows-Part II are clearly at a premium. Many turn away disappointed. And as they walk off, shoulders slightly hunched, some wistfully glance at the large backlit posters of the boy wizard that frame the gates of entry.

The blasts, it seems, have not deterred Potter enthusiasts from swamping the theatres. "Harry Potter has clearly taken the best opening for a Hollywood film ever in India, at least at all the Cinemax properties. Even if there had not been a bomb blast, the footfalls wouldn't have been any better than what they are now, as most shows are house full anyway," Geerish Wankhede of Cinemax claims triumphantly.

So Mumbaikars, as they are expected to, seem have moved on. I ask Ruchika Medhar, 16, a student at St Peter's School, whether she felt any trepidation walking into such a crowded environment.

"Well my mom didn't want me to come but I'm a huge Harry Potter fan, I wouldn't have come out for any other film. But I had to watch this." So does that mean she fears for her safety just a little bit?

"Oh yes I really don't feel all that safe," she says, glancing looks at her friend. He smiles wanly, "The security system isn't all that good. I mean there's only security at the gate."

Many are quite nonchalant about any sort of impending threat. Shruti Kedia, 23, an executive with SBI, takes a rather philosophical approach to the whole thing.

"I'm not really scared. If it has to happen it will happen. I'm from Bangalore, so when the blast first happened I got a little perturbed. I went home early. But now everyone's moving on, so shall I."

As I finish talking to Shruti, I see a group of four walk towards the theatre in a hurry. Two ladies pulled along by two boys, no older than twelve. As I approach them, one of the ladies introduces herself as Parijat Gupta, 40. When I ask her what she does, she flicks her thumb out at the boys and says "I take care of them."

So did she feel any sort of hesitation in bringing her boys out, to a crowded place so soon after a blast? "I did, but we're trying to be brave. We won't let the fear get into our kids." So is it Harry Potter that trumped her initial hesitation? "Not really, this is what the kids wanted to watch, I would've taken them out anywhere."

As I turn to leave I notice a security guard smirking at me. I ask him why. He says, "Why are you asking these people, ask the poor people at Zaveri Bazaar how they feel?" What the guard doesn't know is that I have. And what I've found is that the divisions of Mumbaikars along the fault lines of class, economic status and perception, in this matter, are bridged by a common refrain. "I just want to move on."

They are not just 'celebs'. They are seen as youth icons. They are seen as role models. The ones who died could have been their fans. The ones who are still missing could've been their fans. Their families are still suffering. They might have supported these stars all their life, but could SRK and his friends not have at least postponed their party showing respect? I mean the party is not an urgent need right? Especially at this hour?

Especially SRK, he posted this on 14th July.

They threw a party because ZNMD is a success.

1) It's a success because the people of Mumbai (and the rest of India) are going out there and watching it. So aren't they equally at fault?

2) My cousin celebrated her birthday last night and had a party in Mumbai as well... damn her for being born and celebrating life?

3) Celebrities are criticized a bit too much sometimes... the night clubs in Mumbai are still filled, the movie are still being watched, the malls are still bustling with activity...

I get it, Mumbai has to fight against these attacks but how is not enjoying life going to help with that?

Although I can see this being a sensitive issue and SRK should have ideally avoided this, but come on blaming him is way out of the line.

If the common man can move on why cant celebs?
