@Lilly 😆😆😆

@Lifeolicious...yes, you have to convert your religion in order to marry someone of another religion (in a traditional ceremony...this does not apply to a registered marriage!) A muslim cannot be married in a Hindu Ceremony, because the rituals and traditions of a Hindu Ceremony are such that they only apply to Hindus! I am not sure what happens in a Nikaah ceremony, but I am very sure, that to be married in a Church, you HAVE to be a Christain, else you cannot get married!
One of my best friends is a hindu rajput, her husband is a Syrian Catholic. They got married in the Church and she converted herself into a Christain to do so (some even change their names!) and later changed back to Hinduism! Infact, she had to even give it in written in the Church records that any children born from their wedding will have to follow Christainity as their religion!
Another of my friend got married to her Muslim boyfriend and she changed her name and religion for the wedding ceremony and when she joined back work, she was back to being a Hindu again!😆 I found it so funny...she said her husband and in-laws are very cool with it and do not expect a lifelong Hindu to suddenly start going to the Mosque or cover her face with a veil like they did! Its quite practical, in a way!
If I am not wrong, Imran and Avantika did the same! Avantika converted to Islam and married Imran in a Nikaah ceremony and then went back to being a Hindu! Same for Aamir and Reena and many other Hindu-Muslim couple!

a court marriage is more valid than a church or temple marriage. You go out of the country with your wife and any consulate will only ask you for your court marriage certificate.
me thinks this is just another way of garnering publicity for the film 🥱

i've seen the same thing on the movie Ram-ji London Walay. as, Madhvan has to marry as early as possible, & as the register marriage was not possible for the hasty decision, he converts himself to a Christian & marries on the church.

*

about the guy/girl marrying adopting hindu ritual w/o converting: this thing is completely an euphemistic sham. if you go in depth, you'll find the original marriage took place on the court, but it's their will to have an ethnic marriage. that's all.

my mom converted and changed her name

but leaving alone the conversion bits,
all weddings HAVE to be registered to my knowledge to be considered legal

but then supreme court of india has said recently that even cohabitation can be considered a couple

Pragya,
I am not sure about the details, but pretty sure that our constitution allows any citizen to convert their religion of their own free will! (Any religion they choose! And this is true in all Secular Democracies throughout the world!)
A couple of years back, there was a huge political controversy regarding the conversion of Dalit Tribals to Christanity by Foreign Missionaries and how the RSS (or was it Bajrang Dal?) had a mass religious ceremony and reconverted all of them back to Hinduism! (Ofcourse, its another issue that Tribals don't follow any religion in particular...they are nature worshippers! But try telling this to our political parties!)
That is why in a court marriage, the parties have to give a signed declaration that they do not profess to be of any religion...and hence, the norms and traditions of a normal Hindu / Muslim / Christain / Sikh wedding does not apply to them!
Coming back to the main topic, is this film a remake of Khaka Khaka? Surya was such a dream in that film, even if I could not understand one word of tamil being spoken! He and Jyothika share a smouldering and believable chemistry and its sorry to see that John and Genelia don't even come near them!
PS: Not sure, but I think Hrithik's wife has converted to Hinduism post marriage! Salman's mother was a hindu brahmin and she converted to Islam after married and has remained a Muslim! Nargis Dutt was cremated as per hindu rituals, which suggest that she too must have converted and remained a Hindu after her wedding to Sunil Dutt! Many such cases!
