"Oh my good God! How can a normal human possibly shout so much?" Riddhima was frustrated with her sister Anjali yelling on her for the past 15 minutes. One, she loved her sleep; two, she was in the middle of a great dream where she was just gonna win her first case in the official courtroom but lo and behold, she was woken up. And to top it all, they were in Rome for the holidays before she would start her graduate program at Harvard Law School. She had decided to enjoy the trip before being buried under the books and her career for the rest of her life. But from the moment the journey started, she had been regretting asking her elder sister Anjali and her husband Atul to accompany her. They both would begin cuddling and start going all hushy mushy in front of her, which practical "no time for love" "soon to be attorney" Riddhima Gupta disliked from the bottom of her heart. So here she was, probably the first tourist, who was sleeping in her hotel room instead of seeing the architecture of ancient Rome for the past two days.
"That should presumably be my phrase Ridzy. Oh my good God! How can a normal human possibly SLEEP so much?", Anjali yelled yet again emphasizing on the sleep! "What kind of person sleeps on his vacation Ridz? Wake up and get ready. It's already evening and we have to reach the large monument with the horse-rider before 7." "It's called Monument of Vittorio Emanuele II, Di", Riddhima stated unenthusiastically, after listening to her haywire explanation of a popular monument."Whatever! We are going there, its final and remember we also have to meet Nikita?? And don't make excuses, coz I am listening to none." , she said, as soon as she saw Riddhima opening her mouth to retort.(And refuse of course).
"Well alright! But I am not going to step out of my room tomorrow!!"was the only thing Riddimma could state before Anjali left for her room to probably go around and romance a bit with her husband. Yet again. Anjali did reply with a "we'll see" before banging the door, but Riddhima just refused her brain to process those words.
This was surely going to be a SOME night!!!!!
After muttering silent curses under her breath for over fifteen minutes, Riddhima finally mustered up enough energy (and brain!) to go and change. And the person who usually takes at least an hour to just select her wardrobe, got ready in just 15 minutes, just to show her rebellion. Who said a grown up adult has to be always matured! Looking into the mirror, she was pleased with herself for being that way. The way...which reflected her mood.(Not hard to guess how that would be!)
"Are you seriously gonna come out in these clothes Ridzi? I mean we are going out with friends, on a dinner not on some unpleasant funeral!", Anjali yelled as soon as she opened the door of her chamber and saw Riddhima standing outside! "Anjali.Anjie. Calm down. Don't shout."Atul was trying to cool down Anjali's temper which was just going to erupt and he knew that once this happens, not just them but the whole hotel would burn down into ashes, but one glare from Anjali was enough to shut him up. Justifying what he said earlier he said, "Arre baba, We don't want the whole hotel to know about your fight right? And right now we are in the corridor. So please be cool." But instead of soothing down, this dote from Atul received him a "Shut up Atul! I don't care. Why don't you put some brains into this mad woman's head?" Sighing Atul turned now towards his sister-in-law. Standing in a black and grey suit like dress she looked like she was preparing herself to go to the courtroom and fight a case right before the dinner. Before saying anything, Atul noticed the facial expression of Riddhima which had the "Oh! If you open your mouth or even utter a word I make you face such circumstances that you would curse the day you were born" look written all over! And after years of experience of handling Anjali, Atul knew better than attacking over the lioness. So saying a "I have to make a call" excuse, he left the premises of what he thought, was going to be the venue of World War III. The sisters were so indulged in giving each other dead glares, that they missed what Atul said next(though even if they would want to listen they would have needed bat or moth ears!) A tired Atul had muttered "Pata nhi kahaan phas gaya inn do Gabbar behnon ke beech mein! Khud ladte hain aur beech mein mera sandwich banate hain. Arre yaar, itni buri kismat hai ki sandwich mein bhi kisi cucumber ya ham ke slice ki jagah, cheese ban gaya hoon. Jo bhi ho, mujh bechare ko toh melt hona hi hai."
But what Atul didn't know was that both the sisters were laughing their heads off in his own bedroom. "Ah Di! My stomach aches'you were so right when you said he is afraid of you. I mean its not that difficult to believe that but you should have seen his face. Another moment here, and he would have fainted!!!Oh my God, he really thought we were gonna fight with each other!", a laughing Riddhima stated. A straight faced Anjali replied, "hey!!!!!Don't make fun of my poor Pooh Bear." In between her laughing session the only word Riddhima could say were, "Pooh Bear????Really Di?" This got even Anjali cracking up. For around 10 minutes, they kept laughing. Anjali then stopped and looked over at her sister. The twinkle in her green eyes and the sound of her musical laughter brought another wide smile on Anjali's face. Till the afternoon, she was fed up of Riddhima's irrelevant behavior. But after returning from her room, when she found that Atul had gone to book reservations for the restaurant for the dinner, she didn't have anything to do. So she pondered over the last two days and it struck her like a lightning bolt or rather a lightning thought that Riddhima was just feeling left out. She was always someone who needed heaps of attention and got it 99 percent of 100 times. Of course, she was a star student, had nice facial features, a sports person and to top it all, a hot topic among boys, though that was the only area where she didn't want to attract much attention. But the main point was that nowadays she wasn't getting her drug dose of attention to which she was addicted. She was so busy in her newly married life, that she had just forgotten to pamper her baby sister. She felt embarrassed to be ignoring her these days. Her chain of thoughts was broken by a teary-eyed Riddhima who surprisingly instead of making fun of Atul said, "I miss you Di." The moment she heard this she knew that the tears in her eyes were not of happiness. "I miss you too. And I promise I am gonna spend 24*7 of these holidays with you, just you. I am soo sorry Ridz." "Sorry for what Di? I know you love me. I just miss spending time with you!!", Riddhima said, hugging her Di. After a really long hug and a bit of tears as soon as they broke the hug, Riddhima retorted with a glint of mischief in her watery eyes, "Aur waise bhi I don't want to be the cause of your divorce. And as much as I would like to be fighting my first case, I don't want it to be your divorce with Jeej." Seeing her sister's brows questioning her, she added, "Arre bhai. If you spend 24*7 with me, where will my poor Jeej go huh???" They both started giggling again, and before her sister could hug her again, Riddhima resumed her strict show and said, "Now don't get all mushy and hushy and senti with me!!!!" Anjali replied with a smile and moved back but was surprised to be taken into a sudden hug by Riddhima again. Thinking about it, she could just wonder how her sister was all prim and proper in front of the world, but was vulnerable inside. She pretended to hard but who was she kidding? Anjali knew that she was just a naive girl who though didn't show it, needed love. "Chal. Let's go and change this sucking wardrobe of yours for something nice." This phrase from Anjali brought a frown on Riddhima's face but just to go with the flow and to keep up her Di's spirits, she decided to just leave the matter. But having the typical lawyer kind of personality, she retorted," Stop behaving as if something special is going to happen tonight for which I need to dress up." "Anjali replied with a "Maybe'You never know Ridzy. Probably you'll find your knight in shining armor tonight", while picking up an indigo colored knee-length gown from her cupboard and handing it over to her sister who was blabbering something like "Yeah sure! Leaving the whole world behind, he would want to live in this city. And fall in love with a person like me. Puuuhlease Di, my knight in shining armor probably forgot his way and is fighting some small moth or bug with his sword, that too, in the forbidden chamber ofHogwarts." Anjali just closed the door and went to search for her hubby but not before muttering, "Oh!For crying out loud Ridzy! One. What you are wearing is an insult to woman dressing sense, so the person needs to be blind. And two if you keep retorting and fighting and act all frustrated, he will probably even have to be deaf and dumb. So if you can please grace me with your presence tonight in a more amicable manner, I would be obliged and so would your prince charming!" Riddima knew that her sister last nerve had been touched, which was finding the perfect soul mate for her. But she knew better. She knew that something like soul mate didn't exist. She knew that finding the last piece to her life's jigsaw puzzle, her love, would never happen.
But don't we say that to expect the unexpected??? So probably all the things Riddhima knew were things she thought she knew!
##This is more sort of Riddhima's introduction. Armaan's entry and meeting(hopefully) in the next part!!
