Ranjeet returns to Bollywood

Big screen baddie of 70s-80s, Ranjeet (of Aap Ki Kasam, Namak Halal, Laawaris fame) returns to television with Manish Goswami's daily show Aisa Des Hai Mera to be aired on Sony Entertainment Television from April 24. In the past Ranjeet has played parts of tv shows like Baat Ban Jaaye, Junoon etc.

Role of a Sardar

Talking to HiTLIST from Mukesh Mills in Sakinaka where he is shooting for Aaditya Dutt's second film starring Mithun Chakraborty, Ashmit Patel and Emraan Hashmi, Ranjeet revealed, "I was coming back from Pune and stopped at Lekh Tandon's (series director of Aisa Des Hai Mera) house in New Mumbai.

Over parathas and chai, Tandon narrated a story to me, which had a very interesting role of a Sardar. I asked him who'd play that role. He hadn't cast anybody and asked if I was interested. I said yes."

Goswami says that Ranjeet will Kanwaljeet's father on the show. "Being a Punjabi in real life, I am sure that Ranjeet will give a very good feel to this reel character."

Ranjeet's school plans

The actor has been planning to start a school near Khapoli which was to start in 2005. Apart from the academic syllabus approved from Geneva, the plan also included food, computers, information, textile, engineering, sculpture, masonry, dramatics and acting. And an amphitheatre." The actor says, "My job of putting the funds and the permissions etc is over.

The construction has begun. Soon, it should be ready. But before everything is really ready, we will not ask for admissions. You cannot play with children's careers."

Punjab da puttar

Ranjeet has already shot 15 days in Punjab for Aisa Des Hai Mera, which also stars Pawan Shankar and Goswami's new discovery Saumya Tandon. Goswami signs off by saying that he will need Ranjeet for fifteen days every month. "He clearly told me that he won't be able to give 25 days every month."

About the show

Ranjeet reveals, "The story starts with me. I save a Muslim girl (Bina, Pradeep Kumar's daughter) from a violent mob. I take off my kada and put it into her arm, so that the mob guys do not know that she is Muslim. Thereafter, we fall in love and marry. Owing to her religion being different, there is some drama in my household. Later, we have kids. Please don't ask me more, else the whole story will be out."
