Heyy Prags ,
It goes by ur namesake...called Pragmatism...If one sacrifice can bring in some relief to the other mouths..then so be it ..At least at that place she will get 3 times food, and shelter ...This is their dictum and their comfort mantra...please do not think that they are callous but life is one hard battle and they do not have time to indulge in softer emotion's...although thse emotion's are there..they cannot afford the luxury of wallowing in it..
Forget Ganga..Prags..U condemn the ppl who have not thought about a little Girl..Ganga and Girls like Ganga are out of our reach...But we do have some children in our orbit ... Girls selling at foot paths, sometimes abused, Girls working like maids, shoe shine boys...have we ever given a thought to them..have we ever thought about their robbed childhood.. have we ever thought of sponsoring one kid ..have we ever decided No Child labour, will condemn it wherever I see.. have we ever opened our mouth when we hav such scenes in our home, relatives home or friend's place..They too are Ganga..But we do not react towards their Plight !!
Self Esteem !!! 😲😲 ..Self Respect are the luxuries that one thinks on full stomach and under a solid roof ...It is not bothered by ppl who have not seen a grain of rice in weeks, who have not had a square meal a day ...
Are you a college student.. Are u a working man..can u start a signature campaign to protest against child labour or such social taboo's ...??
Absolutely , Uma..Sometimes this children are the bread winner's..we will say ..Oh !Dear..Poor things..Those innocent souls .. in other words we offer lip service [ and it is so easy isn't it] with out any concrete action's.. if it really bother's them so much..why not join up with like minded individual's and adopt few kids ad their families...become responsible for them..but naturally ..most of us shie away from the actual action..😊...it is not easy..!! ur own growing brood will not allow u any extra cash to take care of the family..and u can't take away the bread earner cos then the whole family will perish..and u cant report them to shelter cos the shelter is bursting at seams ..what then is the solution??
Sorry Dear !! This diatribe was not aimed at you at all... it is just that there are some issues which just riles me..and I just Speak out..
First off I haven't read any of the posts further to Tanth's response here so apologies if I've missed summat
Second off - am livid as I wrote tonnes then lost it somehow!!! 😡
Seems to me were slanting away from the issue originally raised by the poster and have developed 2 issues here, the first is the practice of satisfying debt in exchange for a child or young person, and the second is child labour.
Opinions I accept are based on our own experience as well as our environment, but I don't think we should tar everyone with the same brush and assume people are not interested in taking action against a practice that is not desirable - i.e. child labour.
I make no apologies for my own view which is that every child before becoming a breadwinner should have the chance to be in school and/or have access to education first before the burden of making a living is placed on their tiny shoulders. However I'm also worldly wise enough to know that this is not the case in many places in the world and not necessarily those living in perceived poor countries. I also understand my own constraints and what I can or cannot do to make a difference. However it does not mean we simply watch idly by or indeed be so cynical so as to assume we can make no difference
All around the world there are children who are sacrificing their childhood whether its to earn money for their family members or whether its giving up on school to care for their family members who may be ill or infirm. Those situations are not about to change overnight.
However by talking about them, bringing them to attention and promoting their plight you raise awareness and plant questions in the brains of people like us who are already too busy in the lives we lead to really think about anyone else - least that describes me pretty aptly. There are many causes I feel passionately about and yeah, I do sponsor a child in Africa, and do raise money once a year for a charitable cause - because I can and feel passionately about it.
Its easy to say I cant do much as an individual, but everyone can do something - and its not all monetary either.
I don't have a problem with shoe shine boys as long as they are paid properly and not abused. If I saw a little girl selling something I would see what I could buy if it helped...that's just me and the extent to which I can do something.
In the UK we have a scheme whereby even convicted criminals get a chance to earn money once they've done their time by selling door to door products that are useful to homeowners. I always do my best to buy something that is of use to me, rather than by the same item from a supermarket.
Finally the Ganga point I will always have a problem with. SS and anyone else in his situation would never have gotten back his money realistically ...him taking Ganga for me is abhorrent, especially following a kanyadaan from the father.
All that crap about one less mouth to feed and stuff is crap.
Many hard up and poor people out there may have very little by way of material wealth, but they have lots of honour and faith. They would die rather than part with their honour and honour for them is associated with the daughters of the house.
Understandably when times are hard, ones faith too is tested, but you cannot be without hope.
To keep hope alive is exactly why awareness is so important
Wish I could remember what the hell else I wrote - but there you have it!😃
I agree.. and I am not justifying G's parents actions in any way.. but it is a difficult situation to face.. where individuals like SS leave the parents no other option then to keep their child and due to that one decision watch the rest of their children starve as well... this is a matter of survival and individuals are known to do the most horrid things for life.. it does not mean risk the life of your child but where the rest of your family may be concerned it may be the only way out of a problem which has no acceptable outcome.. SS is to blame for taking advantage of the situation he knew from the beginning that he would not be getting his money.. this scenario simply brings the horrific practice to light...I logged in late last night and decided to stay away from the thread...
I thought maybe I was too judgemental. Then I thought about what I would do if I was G parent? This is just my opinion but I think I would rather starve than to hand my child over to anyone. SS intentions are shadowy!!Abuse leaves deep hidden long lasting scars. Personally starvation is better than putting my child through that torment.Disclaimer: you know the rest...
