Shabbir's going to the mattresses!

For non-Godfather fans, 'going to the mattresses' means going to war with a rival clan or family. Shabbir Ahluwalia, who's stepped in to play Datta on the Colors' Laagi Tujhse Lagan is all geared up to play the 'don'!
Shabbir says, "The biggest reason why I took upon this particular role is because it deals with the underworld. I am a big fan of all mafia thrillers — movies and books and can pretty much watch Godfather, the movie, any number of times. Hence, to be able to play a baddie of this calibre on the small screen was very challenging."
The other reason why Shabbir is so gung ho about the role has to do with the fact that Indian television usually has a lot of women-centric roles which don't leave much scope for male actors. But with Datta's role in this show, Shabbir actually has got the opportunity to play a strong male lead in a TV serial.
