As the day dawns, Naina's mind is full of memories, of what happened and how her future mother in law made demands on her. How she had to change a life style which she had picked up over the last twenty one years, and now she had to change it for this woman, who was the mother of Abhi, whom she had promised to marry, not because she loved him, but because it would have made her best friend Daksh happy. At least she thought that he was happy, even though his story was different, as he was a wreck who could not express himself the truth to Naina in time. Would she have to do all these things: give up her business, her cherished ways, all for this fantasy game?
Naina goes to the room of Akruti with her laundered clothes, and she finds that Akruti has gone to the bath room, and she finds some reports lying on the floor, and as she picks them up, and on reading the address on the envelope she realizes that Akruti is in trouble. As Akruti comes out of the bathroom, she is displaying symptoms of ill health and Naina is worried and wants her to visit the doctor, but Akruti tells her that if she takes some rest she will be fine, and subsequently Naina leaves the room and allows Akruti to take her well needed rest.
Naina sees Minoo Tai is busy folding clothes when she finds a skimpy dress, and she asks Naina, as to whose it is, and is told that it is hers, and Naina gets the order to stop wearing it. She is asked to show the other clothes, and the obedient girl, shows them.
Akruti is trying desperately to call Ayush, but she gets the reply, that the phone has been switched off. She prays that he calls her up as soon as possible. One would have hoped this had dawned her much earlier, when she was all excited about him, and had surrendered to his wishes, without thinking of the consequences.
As Maushi checks the clothes she sees a shirt, and Naina says that it is Daksh's, but Maushi says it can not be. Naina tells her that ever since she convinced him, he has been wearing such colors. Maushi is surprised and suspicious of Naina's moral character.
On the street somewhere in Mumbai, we see Shridar Kaka, walking as he gets a call from the money collector, who warns him to vacate the house in fifteen days, and if not he will have it vacated by himself.
Kaka is upset, and tells himself, that he has run away from the house, which Bakshi does not know. But once he finds out, what would be his reaction. Kaka wonders what he will do and what will happen to those in the house, when he goes to empty it.
We see how Abhi's mother takes over her role as a "yet to be mother in law", very seriously and orders her future daughter in law to be more conservative, to suit her tastes and tradition. For everything Naina has one answer, "Yes Maushi". The exasperating older woman, wears down all who see her antics, but Naina is seen always obliging and with her "yes maushi" on her lips.
Naina remembers how Maushi had asked her to tell her parents, and Naina is worried.
Her father is dead, and the step mother has not shown any motherliness towards her, and that is why she left her home. Is this new mother, going to be like her step mother, Anjali. She was happy with Vibha and had taken to her, as if she was her mother. She is near the table in the kitchen engrossed in her thoughts, when Vibha comes in and wants to know what type of sandwich she wants, with jam, or with cheese, and makes one and puts a sandwich in her mouth, but Maushi who is watching them is scandalized and she stops her. She does not like a mother in law to feed her daughter in law. She tells her sister, that she kept Rohini on her head, and whether she is not satisfied with it. She wants the second one too, to sit on her head.. When Vibha comes to take Naina's side, her older sister is stern, and tells her to treat her as the daughter in law, and keep her self respect of a mother in law. Vibha tells her sister, that for her Naina is a daughter. Minoo tells her, it might have been like that so far, but from now on, she is not a daughter but a daughter in law. Her authoritarian ways are very irritating, but her sister and the rest at home, are for ever yielding to her whims and fancies. Added to it, we have the obnoxious son, Abhi, with his ever smiling, ever jovial face, taking all the torments of Naina in a lighter vein, as if she has no feelings. In every action of his, he shows his immaturity, but for his mother he is a model son. Obviously he has been leading a double life, one to please his mother, and the other to please himself. So, whenever his mother comes into the picture, he ditches everyone else, but still wants to clutch them and never wants to let them go. But whenever Daksh sees them, he feels regret, that he did not take the initiative earlier. Perhaps this will lead him to change his own life style. When Rohini's electric bell rings, Vibha wants to leave to find out what she wants, but the Maushi has a new command: "Naina, when the "bail" (the way she pronounces 'bell') rings, you attend to Rohini, as she is your Jetani. You will do everything your Ayee has been doing so far. You will take care of her food and health. You know she is pregnant, and in a delicate situation" Answer: :"Yes Maushi".
As Naina goes to her room, she sees Daksh and Abhi getting ready to go to the office, and when Daksh asks her if she is going to work, she tells him, that Maushi has told her to take leave and work in the house, to learn from her how the run the house. Daksh is reluctant to express what is on his mind. - he does not like what his aunt is doing, but Abhi is elated, that Naina obliges his mother, and makes his future bliss a certainty. He is absolutely selfish in the way he is thinking, and then Aunt Vibha calls him down to take a call and he leaves them, with his shoulders tilting like a see-saw. When Naina and Daksh are alone, she notices that Daksh has not folded his collar, so she goes to set it right, and the future mother in law spots them, and her suspicion has doubled. Is she a flirt? Would she want this girl to be her daughter in law, who stores other men's clothing in her cup board ? adjusts their clothing, and how reliable is she? What is her upbringing? Will she bring disgrace to her upright and dignified family? When she can not hold her tongue any longer, she says, "Naina, what are you doing here? There is lot of work pending in the kitchen. Come soon." Naina takes leave of Daksh and goes down. The strict aunt, looks sternly at Daksh, measuring him, and with suspicion building in her and her face expression showing that she does not like what she sees, but Daksh is not perturbed by her opinion. He knows the difference between right and wrong.
In another show of the Enforcer, Mother in Law, we are given a display of how she intends to train her daughter in law. She is ordered to prepare the food under her over bearing supervision, and even though it is obvious that Naina is doing this for the first time, the older lady, has no time for leniency or kindness which is a hallmark of her sister Vibha. She is an executioner, and has a job to do, and has to get a person made to order, to fit into her mold. She orders her to put small potatoes, and when she puts them in the boiling pot, some hot water splashes on her hand and burns it, and she is hurt. Daksh sees it when he comes to the kitchen, and goes to wash his cup by himself to the sink. His aunt finds it offensive, that a male member of the family should do kitchen work, and tells him to leave it there. Naina takes the hint and goes to wash, and at that time Daksh's sensitive nature shows up, and he asks what is wrong with her hand, but the insensitive aunt, wants her to prepare masala. First things first.where she is concerned.
The viewer gets to see a negative character for the first time in this Serial. Kaka was the male specimen, and here we have a woman !
Whenever Naina gets a call from her client of office, the stiff necked woman, has no tolerance. Her daughter in law, should pay more attention to her house work, and then her other priorities. She is not concerned that she has a business. In her world, she has to be a home bird, doing her bidding, as her son, hopefully fetches some money of being a chef, God alone knows, where? Again, we hear - "yes maushi" - and an autocratic supervisor bossing over an innocuous girl.
The food is ready finally, and they are ready to serve.
At the dining table, the meal is served, and the dutiful, "yes maushi" is the official servant of the family, serving the lords and ladies, of the Patwardan house. The autocrat has taken the head of the table, and her self acclaimed and privileged daughter in law, Rohini is the one to taste the soup first. She wants to disparage her rival,and so she says that the salt is too much in the soup, and she can not have it and pushes the bowl away. Then Daksh tastes it and finds it o.k. the Chief Guest, Minoo Tai, declares her verdict. "Naina is no good. She has not been trained by her mother. She has been brought up with Maids and cooks". She tells all of them, that with a person like Naina she will still have to do the house work, as she is not confident that she will pick up the work.. Vibha has enough of it, and has a good word for her Naina, and tells her she will learn. Daksh too says the same, but not her future mother in law. Wait when she will hear more about her parents, and what her verdict will be then. Daksh should get ready to take up the cudgels for Naina, but will he?
As the day draws near, Daksh, Naina and Abhi are going to their rooms. Daksh shows his concern to the burn on Naina's hand, which she tells had happened when hot water fell on it. The irritating Abhi comes with his self congratulating advice, and holds her hand and tells her that he has a wonderful remedy. Perhaps he wants to kiss her hand !

In life, bad comes with the good, in one package. A story makes an effort to show, how bad can be overcome by good, as well as the consequences of bad choices. It becomes unbearable if the story teller dwells on it for too long, without coming out of the trap. Some times, it takes a long time, but always truth prevails, and justice is done.
The actors and actresses are indeed giving their best, and often they have to portray negative characters, even though in their personal lives, they may not be like that at all. Yet one must admire their professionalism, to give us such images, that we forget they are real human beings. It might happen, that some may take their anger on the character to the individual actor ! This just goes to show, how good they are.
