Barnali ji, I would love to watch Baiju Bawra, the question is how to get hold of a DVD of that !! When I go home for holidays I am going to torture my parents to get me that dvd..the music of that movie is DIVINE !

Bharat Humko Jaane Se Pyaara Hain is another fantastic song! When it first came, I couldnt get enough of it.. what lines.. absolutely gorgeous.. they are so simple.. and yet they leave that impact on you drastically...

Sarfaroshi ki Tamanna from Legend of Bhagat singh is another personal fave.. according to me Sonu's and Hariharan's best work..what a number... my goodness.. the way the pace changes, the beat, and most of all the lines they sing..OUTSTANDING..

Another song which touched me was Khoon Chala from RDB..excellent song..same for Lukha Chupi..I miss my mom when I hear Lukha Chupi 😭.. especially the part where he praises everything and go 'lekin tu bin akela'..

Oh Palanhare from Lagaan was also a good prayer number..very soulful and beautiful lyrics

Another good song was Naina Neer Bahaye from Water, BEAUTY of a number.... that song brings tears into my eyes..

Who says that we lack good music now, when we have people like Rahman, i think future of Indian music is in good hands..

Another touching song is Charkha Chalati Maa from Pinjar..

Not to compare these songs with the devotional numbers.. but such songs which stir the soul are so few and so rare but when they move the soul, nothing like listening to that again and again !

Madhavi - you are on roll!! 👏

But Madhaviji Baiju Bawra DVD's are very much available here. Infact Barnalidi herself have it. I bought a VCD too few months back of this movie. Next time before comming to India just let us know. We can give you information as to where to get it.

It's really worth watching. And if possible do also watch Ananda Math. Even that movie has some really good songs.

Postal Stamp Image : SWAMI HARIDAS 1164 Indian Post
Stamp Issue Date : 19/09/1985
Postage Stamp Dinomination : 1.00
Postal Stamp Serial Number : 1164
Postal Stamp Name : SWAMI HARIDAS
Stamp Information : SWAMI HARIDAS Swami Haridas was born in 1478 A.D. and had his Nikunj Pravesh (Nirvan) in 1573 A.D. was a saint-poet, philosopher and the celebrated Guru of Baiju Bawra and Tansen and many other great musicians. He was one of the greatest saint musician poets of our country and was venerated as the incarnation of the Lalita Sakhi. With him vaisnavism reacted a distinct watershed in its highly inspiring and sophisticated career. Sanctity and saintliness permeated the family of Swami Haridas. His father, Ashudheer, a scion of Saraswat Brahmin lineage was blessed with marvelous spiritual sensibilities and aesthetic sensitivities. Swami Haridas was blessed with an artistic bent of mind and even as a child, he would often run away to fields and woods and stand entranced at the enormous bounty of nature. Even after his marriage he would be swayed by emotions to renounce the worldly comforts and go to some place for meditating in solitide. His stay in Vrindaban can only be described as a consistent dedication to long hours of prayer and meditation. Nidhivan in his time became a secular shrine where people of all religion converged with the same fervour. Swami Haridas was the forerunner of the classical Dhrupad and Dhemmar styles of classical rendition which was followed by his disciples. Tansen acquired the schooling in these styles directly from Swami Haridas and perfected it to such an extent that in course of time, he became the most brilliant and enduring of the nine-jewels of the Imperial court of Akbar. Vrindaban has always been an important entity since Lord Krishna breathed his first breath in its divine air. This continuity had been reawakened by Swami Haridas who with Narad and Tumburu has one of the Patron Saints of Indian Classical music. Swami Haridas never asked the caste and creed of the aspirants who flocked to his feet to be initiated in the divine art of music. He taught them all with love and dedication. Swamiji's contribution to the growth of his philosophy "Itchha Dwait" puts him in the front rank of Indian thinkers. This has added a unique dimension to the whole concept of Bhakti by aligning it with 'dwait' which is known as 'Madhurya' or 'Ananya Upasana'. Swami Haridas was the mighty soul who gave a concrete shape to Dhrupad, Dhammar and Thumri. He blended the various style into one transcendental unity. He created a supreme unity out of baffling diversity. In this respect, he was the forerunner of National integration and National-unity. And all this from a man whose only possessions were Kopeen, Karua and Kantha. He gave to the world a rare and enduring musical system, philosophy, folk theatre and a system of worship which gives peace to the people even today. Thanks Barnali ji for a very good post.

ya chukkna ji, I heard the telugu version of Bharat Humko first too.. and I loved it.. and then we learnt to dance for that at school and it is one of my fave patriotic songs.. esp the line that goes 'janmabhoomi hai hamari, shaan se kahenge hum' what a line.. appeals to me most, coz India is just my janmabhoomi..nothin more.. but just the fact tat it is my birthland, is such a matter of pride..

Bhaskar ji, when I come to India I will def. try to get it.. thing is I dont live in India ! But ya, I can try asking my relatives to get hold of it for me.. I really want to watch it.. Hope Sony or Zee show it on cable !

Yes it's really an ahievement to sing for your inner self. The inner self which is the divine being in everyone. Maybe in todays world this was partly acjived by Pt Bheemsen Joshi.

woh bhee log thhe. aur aaj ka zamanna hai- dont know how many we'd find today who'd not try to cash in after impressing someone influential.

Not just that. This also as a result of commertialisation of Music these days. Even classical music. Tansen sang for Akbar and nowadays most are singing for Money. Sounds very harsh but thats a fact.
