Thursday 21/4/11 Episode No 50

Outside the ICU - Murugan's parents are fighting with the ward boy - " my son...
yuirukku pOradaraan, nanga paarthe aaganum..." Ward boy wards them off
and Rathi lands there. The parents rave and rant - " enna aachu??? Moolai pisagi
pOchaa??? Tell us the truth..blah blah..." Rathy asks them to chill and goes inside the
ICU -Murugan looks fine ...except that he can not talk - voice box gaali. Naren is also
there - he asks Rathi?? Who inserted the ventilator tube? Rathi says that she only did
that. Naren says " athu thaan reason. The tube jammed the voice box ." There is another
doctor who says that Murugan will get back his voice "just a question of 2 or 3 days" .
Rathi goes to Murugan, reassures that he will talk soon...tells Naren that she plans to
inform the parents. naren tries to dissuade her but Rathi stands her ground. So, Naren
goes along with Rathi to face the parents. Rathi tells them that Murugan lost his voice -
" but he will get it back ...can not give you a time frame but it will happen, ok?" The parents
are devastated .

Rathi goes to her dad's snap. Talks to him - tells him that she forgot to take his blessings -
" I was so tensed that I forgot this ritual..." Quotes Mundasu poet's song and says that she
is a living example for that song. Tells her father that she plans to own her mistake to the parents. Board meeting - Ezhil is taking notes. Every one pounces on Rathi for her decision
to publicize her mistake. Aakash says that he is trying to cajole Murugan's parents and hush
the whole thing - " and you...you want to announce to the whole world and bring down the
reputation of the hospital?? Go ahead and announce, I am not game" Aanand for his part says that rathi needs psychiatric help " antha reporter sathya oruthan pOrum , nambalai kizhichi thOranam kattiduvaan " Aakash storms out...Ezhil has a sly smile... Mohan Bharathy advises Rathy that it is not wise to always do what the heart says " we need to use our brain and tackle situations like this. Leave this issue to Aakash. And you concentrate on getting Murugan's voice back, ok?"

Aakash calls Murugan's parents - cajoles them, politely warns them that the hospital already has a disclaimer and finally tells them that they need to keep Murugan here itself - "we shall see to it that he gets his voice back " Gives them 50,000 rs and asks them to keep the matter under wraps. Aarumugam tries t return the money but his wife grabs it and walks out.

Well, the much dreaded topic of second marriage - Roja just hopes that KB will pour ice cold water and make sure that no such nonsense happens . Roja cuts this segment because the mere mention of second marriage gives her the jitters. Vasanthi picks up a fight - absolutely unwarranted - Viji tries to pacify but vasanthi explodes finally - "marry again, get a few kids and be happy..."

Monday - Episode No 51 25/4/11 Monday Archives

Starts with the vetti fight picked up by Vasanthi - "marry again " - Nalla Kaalam Viji shares
the same sentiment like us - " are u nuts?? 2 nd marriage thaan ithukku solution aa???
there are umpteen options..." Goes on to say that a relative of theirs is poor and ended up having 4 girls aspiring for one boy ( ithu another dogma that irks Roja - Aasthikku pillai
yaam - Aasthi ye illathavan kooda guns for this ?? ) " we can adopt from them, say what??" Vaasu is ready and says that he prefers a baby girl but Vasanthi vetoes the suggestion. " It will be a problem to adopt from known circles . And, all our relatives will ask , ithu thaan so and so Oda kozhandaiyaa nnu " Vaasu agrees with this view and says that a friend of his had this problem. He also says that adoption has become a business and lot of illegal adoptions go around. Quotes a news saying that the foster parents were made to give away their kid after 3 years of paasam kOtti valarthufying. For now, this problem gets a break.

Naren's parents are back in town. Daddy makes Dosas and mummy nalla izhuthu izhuthu pesikitte vettings. ( intha izhuvai kOnjam too much, KB sir, CBE kaaranga nnu ipdi thaan kaattanumaa?) Ezhil lands with some Paal Gova in hand. Tells them that she is a good cook and a good house-keeper. "Kalyaanam aana , no job, veedu thaan kovil, hubby thaan deivam and his parents are the ruling deities of the house" Naren's mother is floored and tells hubby that Ezhil is the ideal DIL.

Vasanthi and mommy are watching TV. Vaasu comes and says that he wants to take Vasanthi for a holiday "Office kku leave, Goa pOgalam, game?" Vasanthi says that
enge pOnaalum their problems will travel with them "ingeye irukkalaam " The doctor
who examined the couple arrives saying that she was in the neighborhood "Viji mma
told me that you have some reservations about adoption. There is another option.
Surrogacy - as Vasanthi has a problem with her uterus, she can't hold the baby but a surrogate mother can do it for you. Let me know if u are interested, I will do all I can.." Leaves. The couple are thoughtful.

Tuesday - episode 52 - half seeru for eljay?

Rathy is sitting in a big room in the hospital, thinking over the events leading to Murugan losing his voice, Naren telling her it was her mistake, Murugan's parents blaming her for the loss in anticipated income (how selfish can this mother get?). Naren comes there, asks her why she is sitting there and blaming herself, he says such mistakes are bound to happen, she has saved Murugan's life, he would have died but for her intervention. Since she doesn't respond, he cracks some poor doctor jokes, and she still doesn't respond. Finally, she tells him to stop it. She is okay, just thinking. His phone rings, it is his mother, and he explains to Rathy that they are back from their ooru, and he would like her to meet them. She agrees to go to their house the following day.

Next day, mom is anxiously waiting for Rathy. Naren tells her to wear a nice sari and she gets offended, Is this a MIL seeing affair, not a girl seeing affair? Do I have to pass her exam? Dad tries to calm her down, she insists on wearing the same sari, and the doorbell rings. It is Rathy, and mom insists on opening the door. Rathy is wearing a nice simple sari, and mom likes what she sees. She calls dad, and he reminds her to invite Rathy inside. Rathy gives them a small gift of a sari and a veshti, and even while dad is protesting the need for her to bring them a gift, mom grabs it and goes inside. Dad, Rathy and Naren go to the dining table to talk, and mom brings some food out. Rathy says she has already eaten at home, mom's face falls with disappointment. She insists that Rathy have lunch with them, but Rathy says she has an important meeting to attend. Naren's phone rings right then, he moves away to answer the call, and dad also goes inside.

Some Periappa calls and Naren's mom answers the phone. She tells that person that she is talking to the girl whom Naren wants to marry and asks Rathy to talk to him, which Rathy declines because she doesn't know the person. Mom samalichufies that Paapa vekka paduthu, but she isn't happy about it. Then she tells Rathy that it is all very well for her to do the work in the hospital, but after marriage, she wants Rathy to stay at home and cook and care for her darling son (I heard something like that about 35 years back, and my dad said, Let him engage a cook if that's what you want for your son!) Rathy leaves, saying that she has to go to the hospital (obviously she doesn't want to hear this stuff from mom!) and mom is left standing. Naren and dad come back, and find Rathy gone. Mom is mad that she left while mom was still talking and Naren goes behind her. Mom makes the comment that her son is chasing after her.

Wednesday...

27th April 2011 - Wednesday - Episode - 53

Dr.RB brings a famous speech therapist , Dr.Senthil Kumar to Murugan's room, introduces to Murugan's parents and promises to get back Murugan's voice. His parents are very glad. Rathi takes leave. Dr. Senthil Kumar is all praise for RB, Murugan's mother says she had spoke so ill of her, but she is being so nice. That is Dr.RB replies Dr.SK, starts his therapy with Murugan.

Vasanthi , is very excited, comes out of the Doctor's room, her husband all ready to leave. But Vasanthi wants to meet the surrogate mother who is on her way. She feels that Vasu is not reciprocating her feelings, he says why should he be excited, he is not going to marry her. Vasanthi asks if he is harbouring such ideas... Vasu replies that Vasanthi was the one asking him to go in for another marriage. A lady passes by, Vasanthi ponders aloud if that is Revathy, the surrogate mother. Vasu and Vasanthi are called for. The introductions are done, but Revathy is writing something. Dr.Kalpana asks them to talk to Revathy, ask any doubts if they have any. Revathy tells them to ask quickly, she has an auto waiting, must go to pick her daughter from school. Vasanthi asks about her daughter - Saranya is her name answers Revathy, Already she had been a surrogate mother twice - did it for money. Vasanthi asks her where does she reside, Revathy doesnt want to divulge, says not necessary for them, but still tells. Vasu asks about her husband, Revathy again goes on a trip, are they going to pay her more if her husband is without work. If they want her horoscope she is ready to give them a copy.

Dr.Kalpana intervenes and tells Revathy, just that they want to know you better, why such rude talk. There is the next 10 months to discuss all this, she wants to know how much they would pay her - Vasu and Vasanthi not very comfortable. Revathy wants Rs.5 lakhs. Both husband and wife look at each other and then at the doctor. The earlier deal was for Rs3.5 lakhs tells the doctor, but this would be her last so the higher cost. Vasanthi tries bargaining , accepts finally. Advance Rs. 2 lakhs, if any problem during pregnancy - Dr.Kalpana asks her to be optimistic. But Revathy tells she is practical, if any problem during the pregnancy, they should settle her account first. Revathy takes leave after telling that the full settlement should be done at the end of 7th month - Dr.Kalpana says she is very strict in money matters but will give them a healthy child.

Dr.Rathi begins dictating to Ezhil for something to be put up on the notice board. Dr.Naren wants to have a word with Rathi. She tells she has work will talk later. But Naren insists. Ezhil asks if she should wait or... is asked to wait out for 5 minutes. She leaves with a sly smile . Naren tells that it was very rude of Rathi to leave his home like that. She tells he must thank her for not opening her mouth. Naren says his mother felt very bad, there are a lot of things he should know other than what he just saw replies Rathi. Naren speaks for his mother - she grew up in a village, is naive, why bother what she says he asks Rathi. She is not some passerby, but future mother in law.. and she did not talk about global warming or other world related issues - spoke about her future. His mother wanted Rathi to leave her profession, her hospital and sit at home to cook and serve Naren and his mother. Naren again says she is... but Rathi tells him why blame her, she did her best in controlling her anger and getting out of the place. Her profession is not like another, her world is Shanthi Nilayam, she would die without it.

Ezhil is standing outside the room - happily eavesdropping (Oh KB sir, first give her a big aappu!) Naren says he has no problems with her working. Rathi feels he should have convinced his mother before asking her to see them. Impossible to convince them goes Naren, asks Rathi to call his mother and say sorry for his mother is very angry. Why should she? questions Rathi She cannot be the "ideal" DIL for his mother, he can marry someone who would do all that they need and be their maid. Ezhil is all smiles. If Naren has anything to discuss as a doctor otherwise - she shows him the door. Ezhil escapes to her seat. Goes to an upset Naren who comes out - asks him if he has any problem. He asks her to mind her business and leaves. She is very happy.

Goes into RB's room - finds her also upset. Prompts RB to continue the dictation. No answer from RB so asks if she has any problem. Rathi shuts her up and tells her to mind her business and leave Rathi alone. A very glad Ezhil leaves the room. Thoughful Rathi. Naren returns to his room to find his father waiting for him there. Asks why he is waiting there... His father tries justifying his wife's stand and Naren speaks for Rathi. Says it is wrong of his mother to tell that she should sit at home. The typical KB touch in their conversation. Finally the father feels that Ezhil is a perfect match for Naren. Tells about her visit with paalkOva. Naren grinds his teeth. His father recommends that he forget Rathi and marry Ezhil. Naren says only Rathi can be his wife. His father again reinstates Ezhil to be a better wife for Naren and leaves a confused Naren...

Thursday 28/4/11 Episode No 54

Vasanthi, Vaasu and Viji - at the doctor's desk. Talk about the surrogate mother.
Viji says that she tried to convince Vasanthi about Revathy, the surrogate mother ,
in vain. Doctor says that among all the surrogate mothers, Revathy is the most polite -
" she is a professional, contact padi nadappa, I have delivered both her babies, no
health issues, why this contemplation??" Vasanthi says that if a contract is a must ,
so be it " but antha amma panam panam nnu athai pathi mattume pesaraanga???
Carrying a baby is not just commercial !!! She needs to nurture good thoughts during pregnancy !!! Apram pOrakkira enga pappa epdi helathy mind Oda irukkum??? I can
not bring myself to accept and compromise" Vaasu says that he too shares Vasanthi's sentiments but also understands that these are all commercial dealings these days
" let us give a break for this topic"

Naren sees Ezhil - he is livid. Tells her that he wants to meet her in the coffee house.
"come there in the evening and I need to talk to you" ( ada kirukka, intha schemer kku
neeye nalla time kuduthutte !!! Mind wheels will spin oer time now !!!) Ezhil promptly conveys this to Rathy who wants her to stay late at work " My appointment is with Dr,.Naren , he probably wants to share his heart with me...I have promised, can not disappoint him" Rathy as usual barks at her and dismisses her. A happy Ezhil leaves, Rathy is boiling.

Evening - Naren shouts at Ezhil for spoiling the minds of his parents " You are crossing
your limits, I love Rathy and that is it . Kurukku sAal Otta plan pOdathey, got it?? Keep off my parents " Ezhil is already ready for such an attack - starts shedding crocodile tears " Doctor, it is unfortunate that you misunderstood me. I think of you as a good friend and well wisher. I really like your parents...when they asked me about my marriage, I told them what I wanted in my marriage !!! And you think that I am scheming?? Vu Vu VU ..." Naren feels bad, gives her his kerchief " will see u later" - leaves. Ezhil gloats " You did it , my girl.."
