Random Musings: March Madness

Hola Maryaada Forum,

Finally caught up with the backlog of episodes. Its been an eventful March. After weeks and weeks of being frustrated with the lack of progress in the story, March saw some movement in the form of new tracks and baby steps in old ones. Some thoughts on the story thus far...

Vidya - Gaurav

When oh when will this track move at a reasonable pace?
Should I celebrate that Vidya now knows of Aarthi's existence or rue the fact that not much else happened? If Gaurav planned the whole way in which this track played out from leaving the key for Vidya to find to planting the photographs to ensuring Vidya gets a glimpse of Aarthi and him together, I do not understand what he was protecting the very first time he reacted to Vidya trying to open the locker. 🤔 If there was nothing inflammatory there and the photographs a ruse planted later, then why the over reaction at the onset?

Moving on, Gaurav is currently being sketched as a manipulative and selfish person...shades of Brahma anybody? 😲 His treatment of Vidya is abusive. 😳 Its rather ironical that the son who empathizes with his mother's abuse the most is now in turn showing no qualms about ruining an innocent's life. Kids inherit traits of their parents...so while Aditya mirrors Brahma's smarts and anger, Gaurav seems to reflect his self-centered and manipulative side. Now...if the intent of the writers is to paint him in gray shades, it is a brilliant twist of sorts. But if Gaurav is meant to be good like how he seemed in the early phase of the marriage to Vidya, his current characterization is inconsistent.
🤔

Uttara - Taara and Uttara - Brahma

This track has also barely moved in the past few weeks. Taara's metamorphosis from the belligerent and angry kid to the one seeking Devyani Maasi's approval was rather abrupt. The loss of a parent is a huge turning point in the life of anybody, especially a child and I wish the writers had dwelled on Taara going through the various stages of grief more thoroughly.

Coming to Uttara, irrespective of the trigger or circumstances, Uttara killed Rishabh. Other than some flashbacks when she returned to her house, where are her post-traumatic reactions? Yes, worry about Taara is foremost on her mind but the fact that she killed her husband should not have been brushed away so easily. Also...was killing enough justice for the abuse she faced? Instead of logically moving this track forward, we now have SasurPig's lust to look forward to. 😒 Given that Brahma has been sketched thus far as a "thinking" type villain and how close to home his crimes have come in the form of Priya, it is highly inconsistent to show him acting out on his lust for Uttara right now. I hope the writers leave this twist in Brahma's imagination and go back to evolving the Uttara story in a better way first. Eventually, Brahma making a move on Uttara could be the proverbial straw but the time for that is not now.

Devyani - Brahma

Devyani standing up for herself will likely be the last of the story tracks to take off. Her reaction to the abuse she faces is so well entrenched that many little things over time and something truly big as a trigger will be needed to get her to break free. That said, her story needs to move forward too. She is shown crying time and time again but where are her thoughts and self-reflections about her life with Brahma...they are too few and far in between.

Devyani is also the reason why Gaurav agreed to marry Vidya. When will we learn the story about what objections the Jhaakars had to Aarthi? 🤔 For her part, Devyani was clearly affected by Vidya cleaning the kitchen to mask her grief but other than slapping Gaurav, where was her introspection in the screenplay? I loved the little conversation between Babuji and Devyani in one of last week's episodes about Devyani's culpability in Vidya's situation but that was not nearly enough. Even if Devyani explains away her actions to herself, that thought process should have been reflected in the screenplay.

Priya - Aditya

The less said about this track the better from my perspective. 😒 There seems to be some confusion about how to depict Priya. In the past month we have had to suffer through watching Priya oscillate between being foolishly brave in confronting Brahma time and time again before Aditya's arrest to hyperventilating at his sight in the recent episodes. 😳 How I wish the writers would characterize Priya seeking justice in a "smart" way. I never liked the whole "lets use Aditya" approach to start with. But...its not too late in my humble opinion. If Priya can be shown being everybody's agony aunt in the screenplay, how about having her turn those smarts on to her own life?

Aditya on the other had is his annoyingly impulsive self! He is constantly jumping to conclusions and leaving angrily. There are only so many times that this can be done in the screenplay before becoming repetitive and tedious to watch. The so called smart politician in the making does not jive with the irrational Aditya Jhaakar.

Coming to the white elephant in the room...the lack of consummation between the two. Given that Priya has already been shown having no problem with the infamous kiss, why the hesitation now. I understand that Brahma's presence under the same roof is a factor but if she can face him head on, why would that be a barrier to moving forward with Aditya. Wish the creative team would get it over with already!

Roshni Devi - Brahma

Ahhh...what an annoying entry and OTT character. Still...I have to admit that she is entertaining to watch. What I do not get however is the amount of time this character is getting in the screenplay. 😳 That needs to be balanced better with the other story tracks. Her history with SasurPig and the reasons for her hatred towards him is something interesting to look forward to. 👍🏼

Babuji, Mr. Pradhan, Imil, Jaggi, Aarthi, Sweety and Chinu

Where oh where is Mr. Pradhan? He seems to have disappeared and Priya has not been shown thinking about her Dad in weeks now. 😳 I wish the screenplay would bring him back or explain his absence.

While I'm glad the writers read the feedback and nixed the whole Imli hating Priya and instigating Vidya track, 👍🏼 I wish they would also give some closure to the missing kids and pregnancy. A simple reference to the kids at boarding school or growing up with either Imli or Jaggi's family elsewhere would do it. Similarly, if Imli's pregnancy cannot be worked in to the story, she should at least be shown having a miscarriage. Lack of closure to these loose ends is very silly. 😒

Coming to my favorite character Babuji...I see him in the role of Bhisma in this family. I love his interactions with Devyani, Vidya and Uttara. I hope the writers build on the relationship with Vidya now given how she parallels Devyani in many ways. 👍🏼

Moving on...while Aarthi's entry was most needed, the back story of why Gaurav and her could not get married and her suicide attempt needs to be addressed soon. I also do not see any true affections between the two reflected in the screenplay!

Lastly Chinu and Sweety...where are they these days? 😕 A friendship between the two and Taara would be nice to watch.

Overall: March was a 2.5 to 3 overall for me. Most days it was very average with a few scenes here and there showing the brilliance this creative team is capable of. I hope this month makes the right changes to get back to the brilliant writing that attracted me to this show.

Hi jaya!
Reading a long post about your thought's after a long time.

Love reading it, but maryaada is going no where! The cv's are also making misunderstanding between adi-priya.
V-G, i'm linking vidya but this story is too much, aarti works with gaurav and there is absolutely no problem with the girl, so why devyani didn't accept her? this is taking such a long time.

Amna... 🤗

Thanks chica. Just saw today's episode too. I dislike Aditya's near constant impulsive type characterization but today's misunderstanding has potential if handled well. Aditya was shown being confused for that split second when Priya reacted to his trusting Brahma and not her. I hope the writers show him coming back to that second of doubt once his anger has passed. That will then make him wonder how Brahma knew of his search and hopefully eventually to the real truth or at the very least closer to it.

The whole Aarthi thing is such a mystery. At one point I thought Gaurav was in love with an older woman. But here she is a smart co-worker. So what problem did Devyani have? I guess the question is what problem did SasurPig have with Aarthi. Devyani was probably fixing matters to Brahma's satisfaction.

Aditya's character is extreme based, his anger filled attitude is nothing new but his weird behavior of not trusting priya is high point of ruining their relation. To me it was not such a big issue to fight on, they had a bad fight and priya's words were totally true. It's about time for aditya to grow up a little and see the truth. His blind trust on his so called amazing and pious dad should be smashed a little as off now. Else this will be the end of adi-priya, because brahma will never refrain from his evil games.
Tomorrow he will also come to know that their is no physical relation between them, wonder what is he going to do with priya now. I hope nothing wrong. But he's definitely going to make a distance between them.

Amna...True...Aditya's reactions are nothing new which is why I'm quite bored of watching the same thing again and again.

Characters should show groW*H over time. Vidya for example would not have worked up the courage to fight for her man at the beginning of her marriage. Over time, she has grown to the point that she was able to set aside her misgivings and go after Gaurav. Similarly both Priya & Uttara have evolved. But not Aditya. He is quick to judge and react. Such extreme characterization lacks the depth needed for the longevity of a character. That said, I get why they writers are depicting him so upset over what seems like a trivial matter. The bond between Aditya and Priya has not developed the maturity that is representative of long marriages or relationships. Also while Aditya has gained Priya's trust, she has not been shown gaining his in any significant way.
That is not to say he does not trust her...but he really does not know her very well. He knows facts about her but not much more. This misunderstanding is needed to start planting small seeds of doubt in Aditya's mind. When he eventually learns the truth about Brahma, he will recall events like this one.
