The phrase 'moving on', as I understand it, means to move ahead in life without being bogged down by the past. Let us try and analyse Geet's behaviour to see if and when she did move on..
Once Geet decided to leave HP, in order to live life on her own terms with her baby, she physically moved on. The foetus was a link with the past that she chose not to cut but, that apart, she severed all other ties.
When she met Maan and fell in love with him, apart from brief qualms about her right to feel the emotion, she allowed herself to move on emotionally. She was more concerened with encumbering him with her past than anything else. Whatever, her past experiences did not stop her from falling in love and post haste at that..!
When she experienced physical desire in Maan's arms, she allowed herself to sexually move on. This was a huge step. For a woman who has been betrayed sexually, this feeling is not so easy to experience again. Yet, Geet did not shy away from the physical side of Maan's love. At no point was she traumatised by memories of the past and rightly so. She had a right to move on in every sense of the word and move on, she did. If I remember right, she was the one who initiated the first proper embrace between the couple. Post marriage, she even verbally expressed her physical desire for him. So, no doubt about this, Geet had definitely moved on!
When the past came back into her life for the first time in the form of her fiance's brother, she was traumatized on two counts. How the truth would affect Maan and whether he would still stand by her thereafter. MSk more then put her doubts to rest when he called the police on his brother. Later, again, she was traumatized because she thought MSK had subverted her quest for justice. Thankfully, this was soon cleared up by MSK. That apart, there was no major emotional trauma on account of the past. Even after the engagement fiasco, within hours she returned because her present with MSK mattered more then Dev's past crime. So, Geet definitely had moved on even then.
Let us look at the scenario post Dev's return. Initally, she was thrown off guard. She fainted. But after that she handled the sitaution far better than MSK. She even wondered why they had cut short their HM even when she knew Dev was hanging around. When she went to Dev to ask him for blood for MSK, she went as MSK's wife and not as Dev's victim. She had moved well past that stage already.
When she was forced to accept Dev's presence in her own home, it was owing to a series of obligations. One being to Dev himself and another to an old lady who had cared for her like a mother. So, accept his presence she did. And again, after the intial shock, it ceased to matter to her. She was even able to converse with him naturally and live life with her husband without reservation. Within a second of his moving out the frame, she was able to have a normal conversation with her husband about their baby. Although Dev was the biological father, it didn't matter to her a bit. So, she had already moved on in that sense too.
So, what was the moving on yesterday all about? To me, she had to move on but not from Dev's past crime but rather the loss of the baby. Dev had nothing to do with that except in that he had impregnated her. So, that was the only place where she was stuck and from which she needed to move on.
So, how was telling Dev she forgave him going to help her? She had already achieved a state of indifference. He simply did not matter anymore. So, was she then forgiving him for MSK's sake. To help MSK move on maybe? If that were the case, would it serve its purpose. Clearly not, given MSK is a righteous man who believes in justice. His current situation has rendered him quite helpless but not forever. And as clearly evidenced from the story line coming up ahead, this forgiveness is only going to hurt him more.
So, if Geet did not need to forgive and MSK would never be able to accept this forgiveness, who was it for. For two poeple
1. Dev, who apart from numerous claims at repentance, has done nothing concrete to earn redemption. Unless a pint of blood and playing Cupid count as concrete. Now, with a lightened conscience, he can move on in life
2. the hapless creatives of this show..desperately wanting to recreate the Maan Geet magic and looking desperately for ways to break them up so they would start afresh, this forgivenss to them is a God sent..now they can go ahead and start from scratch and at least temporarily put a halt to the call for justice..for if the victim has chosen to forgive, what right does the rest of the world have to call for Dev's head?
So, this forgiveness then is largely for the creatives...for them to move on...Happy Moving on, Creatives!!!
