Im waiting for next update. will he look handsome with his toned body or under fed in that exposed dhoti of his.
dhotis are the funniest part in marriage.

for info sake even in bihar and bengal the groom has to wear a dhoti with kurta (preferably topless) for basic rituals. nw with modern ideas creeping in they try to manage with dhotis kept on their laps over their wedding attire.

Part 7: The Big bang

The mysterious man had been in and out of her thoughts the entire night. Her house had grown joyous at the sight of Susheela athai (aunty) and had simultaneously chided her for having paraded the Chennai streets at such late hours. She had rolled on her sides the entire time she had gone to bed, but it had all been in vain. Sleep was playing catch with her that night.

Before she would rest herself, the clock had turned 4.00 AM and her mom had come to wake her and Meera up. They all had left shortly after to the venue.

She looked at herself in the mirror as she fixed her mattal (the side chain of her earring) as a glint of disappointment pierced back from her image. It was still not clear what last night had meant, or that evening for that matter. He had come looking like a joker and she had almost believed him. But it was too much for even a geek to dress that way. And so she had reserved her judgment for the time being and had wanted to gamble just as she had assured her mystery man.

Him...she closed her eyes as she let out a sigh. Why couldn't he have come into her life one week earlier? she sincerely wished. There was no backing out now...not when she knew she could embarrass her father and wheeze him to death. She loved him too much for that, but did her father love her as much to rescue her back from the black hole she was going to jump into? Lord it was getting depressing...She wiggled her head as if that would shake off the unhappy thoughts. Well if only it was that easy. Eerie thoughts always lingered longer and made you fragile, as opposed to its counterpart; she claimed now.

The whole arrangement looked like a lottery game to her, as she felt clueless to what awaited her outside her room. The bride and groom's green room was on the opposite sides of the stage. It would not take her a second to peek at her future, but she couldn't dare herself as she sat rooted to the floor. What if she fainted or felt the need to puke like last night? She thought.

The blaring nadhaswaram(instrument played at weddings, south Indian equivalent for a shehanai) slightly muffled the sounds of wailing babies and loud mouthed aunties who were gathering at the seats. Had he been a ghastly sight, she was sure she would have heard a scream from someone; she tried to pick on her logic.

Just as she was battling her mood, Meera came in, dressed in a neatly pleated sari to let her know it was time. She herself had clad the standard maroon madisaru, as the custom called for, along with one short and one long necklace of the temple cut design. Dozens of bangles rode up her wrists and jangled on a happy note. Whatever...

Not missing out on the waistband, anklets, hair embellishments and the other usuals, she walked out of her room; her gaze stuck to the ground.

She sat next to him, not having the courage to even look from the corner of her eye; she kept her head low. Briefly she had closed her eyes once again, as she contemplated if she could run away from the homam (havan), the vathiyar (the priest who conducts the marriage), all her relatives and lastly her parents...

Would the gain really compensate for the losses, she questioned finally as she heard the vathiyar call out to her. She was to garland him, the first of the ceremonies that would start an infinite journey with him. Turning to face him, while her gaze not wanting to find out what was to come next, she lifted her head reluctantly.

That is when it happened; her brain freeze. Generally, there were only two ways to react to such situations; one you could scream or freeze. One still had the bimbo look either ways. She blinked to let the face clear up in her head, but as she was slipping from reality, at least that is what she thought, she gaped at the sight that had greeted her. How could it be? She was being whiplashed severely. The contrast between the two was not comprehensible to her. The man in the shade had been hideous, while the one who had now lowered his head, awaiting her acceptance had been...arrestingly gorgeous. With just a thin folded cloth that went around his neck and a transparent dhoti for wedding attire, his square shoulders were for display in plain view. Not bad for the studious types; he was well toned and bordered on medium built. No doubt he was pumping iron regularly, for she could spot muscle definition as he moved and turned.

Meera, the only one who knew what Geet was battling inside her, patted her shoulder to knock her out of the stupor she was in.

For reasons unknown Maan had feared this moment for he felt he had given too much away last night. It was not going to take Geet long to put one and one together to arrive at his identity. He didn't want to be called out in front of everyone and had pondered unnervingly, if she would even garland him to start with.

But to his boundless pleasure, she did.

Just as she had predicted, it had indeed been a game of luck she had been playing and was still trying to make sense of all the weirdness that was accumulating in her life. She didn't know how many times she would have to steal a look at him to confirm he was anything but ghastly...actually far from it and was handsomeness personified to be precise. They moved onto the other rituals of the wedding as the duo was trying to make sense of the time when their dreams had touched reality. Next came the Oonjal (Jula/Swing) ceremony with the succeeding milestone moment. He had to pass on a glass of milk to her and he had held onto the silver cup a tad bit longer until her fingers had grazed his. She had instantly looked up at him, careful not to call attention to her sudden movements for a tease from the insane number of aunties who were now singing traditional Harti songs. He had smiled and winked at her, making her turn away immediately. She was blushing a deep scarlet.

It was that time of the day, when she was to become his in everyway...manasa, vacha, karmana. As the custom called for, Geet was seated on her father's lap while he stood facing them with the mangalsutra. The vathiyar had gestured the band to play up the time honored getti melam (The tune to indicate the auspicious moment) and right at that second he had lowered himself to tie the fresh turmeric thread around her neck.

Despite the noise, the clamoring and the joyous screams, a calm had settled in their beings, making them want to run away hand in hand. The feeling was quite mutual, only in addition Geet was still stuck in a dilemma. She was figuring out what punishment he deserved for the trick he had played on her. But even as she was cross with him, she couldn't contain the excitement that bubbled inside in her.

Both were drawing a blank now. They didn't know how to initiate anything. Be it conversation, or a quick comment, or a touch...A particular custom had come to their rescue. Somewhere up the family tree, she had a grandmother from a different sect that had caused the introduction of this particular tradition. Her cousins called it the open tease and she had completely forgotten about it. Duh!

As the moment arrived, she held her breath quickly. Maan was absolutely lost as the vathiyar gestured something to her. He had no idea what was to hit him next, but Geet had already gotten up from his side and stood facing him. He looked up to her and they shared a quick smile at each other. But he still didn't know what he was supposed to do

"She has to sit on your lap for the next homam" Meera said with a coy smile.

"Like here...I mean...on me?" He stuttered and looked back and forth between Geet and Meera. He moved aside the innumerable number of garlands that were resting on his left lap and she bent down to settle down on him. Wow...this was all new as a shudder ran down both their spines. She let out her breath that she had sucked in and it blew right by his cheek that made him turn towards her. Jeez she was a heartbeat away from a kiss and his control was hanging by a thread. If this was not enough, the vathiyar gave them a handful of puffed rice mixture to throw into the fire. As his arm circled her and extended to reach the havan, he left tingles on her naked skin around every inch his skin had come in contact with hers. She sucked in her breath once again.

He could not wait to get her off his lap, for every time she blew her breath on his face, or when they moved synchronously to lean towards the havan, he was exploding with an uncontrollable urge to hold her in his arms. The posture came quite close to what he was wanting, but it was not yet complete; not until he could lock his hands around her waist. God...she had to stop doing that, he was muttered profanities

"Geet...relax" he said as he came close. She had turned to face him and he had smiled mesmerizingly at her. It was her turn to cuss now and she did.

Their little game of teasing each other extended to the other ceremonies too. He had lifted her foot to adorn them with the foot rings and she had jerked with the tickle underneath her feet. Now he had moved to the next level and started his purposeful touches...or teases for that matter. They had done the phere's too hand in hand, with Maan beaming away mindlessly. It had surprised Daadima, but then the real reason was only clear to Adhi, Meera and his father.

The marriage ceremonies were coming to an end, when their secret gazes and smiles were slowly picking up in numbers. An accidental grazing of the fingers or a caress was getting unavoidable as the crowd that was storming their sides was pushing them against each other. It was a new beginning...as another ginormous world of sweet nothings, fights, awkward moments, brain freezes, Ahas and Eurekas and sensual pleasure came into being...It was just the start...all arising from the nascent moment they had decided to share their lives with each other.

Lovely update....I know you had said that you would not go into details of the customs...but I was looking forward to the kashi yatra (I find that really funny...one of my friends told her BF to not come back😆)

Will you also do the garland exchange atop the swing? Thats a really cute custom too 😊

Now I should seriously stop stalking this thread and get back to work!

I had planned for the Kashi yatra alone...I know you must be wondering how it would come back, now that the wedding is over.
I have put it as a way of Geet and Maan recalling some moments, when they are going through their photo album...
So it has to wait...coz now we will first have to get them talking...and that calls for both of them to be in the same room to start with...
Which...I will leave it to your imagination how its going to take shape.

Pixie...thanks...you have been wonderful commenting along with my every update.
