If they admitted that it was a remake then they have to get permission from the author, the author may have signed the movie or tv rights to someone else, then they would have to deal with that person. Not to say anything of paying royalties to all the parties involved.

It's very complicated and expensive. It's easier to pretend that it is an original piece of work.

*big sigh*

Have only watched a few episodes but really enjoyed them. Let's not think too much about copy rights and other legal issues!
