Parental discrimination is subjected to everybody who has a sibling, you know? Its something happening everyday, and most of the time - we don't even seem to notice it.

I see that even in different societies, some norms stand the same. Like my mother wouldn't let my brother get his ears pierced too. Reasonable enough I think, with respect to her mindset - the distinction between a male and female's appearances? Earrings would make him look like a girl, Mama would say.

The elder one is discriminated against more, I guess because while they are grown up enough to look after the younger one, they are little young to go slumber partying to a friend's or go watch a movie! Its ironic, and to me - very ridiculing but I gotta adapt myself to it. My brother may get away with an issue but I wouldn't, one of the two kids never get to offer an excuse. So, being elder provides you with a chance to acknowledge responsibility but does also offer you a lot of discrimination!

It's complex. Yes, parental discrimination happens but isn't very prominent. 😆

I cannot understand why some parents are so cruel

Jail and caning for man who burned sons' buttocks

By Elena Chong

The 26-year-old father of three had admitted to nine charges committed at his home between October 2008 and August 2010. Seventeen other charges were taken into consideration. The court heard that the accused had been taking care of his children at home while his wife went to work. -- PHOTO : ST FILE PHOTO

A MAN who punished his two young sons by beating and burning them has been given 48 months' jail and eight strokes of the cane.

In passing sentence on Thursday, District Judge Ronald Gwee said the acts carried out by the 26-year-old were cruel, involving the use of lit cigarettes, a lighter, as well as a hot ladle and spatula to burn the victims' buttocks.

He added that it was very clear that this case called for a deterrent sentence.

The man cannot be named to protect the identities of his children.

Last month, he had pleaded guilty to nine counts - four of using a heated substance to burn the buttocks of his two sons, and five of ill-treating them.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Lee Zu Zhao said then that the accused had breached his sons' trust by subjecting them to a prolonged period of physical abuse.

Actually, I don't think the mother is discriminating the boy. He's too small, he should be told that once he grows up he can do whatever he wants to, because NOW, he doesn't know what he wants or what is right for him. 🤔 He should be told that he's too small, and might regret later on, when he grows older.

i thought they pierce boys ears as an infant.. mine were done by the time i was an year old and i can if i want wear them ear rings or studs etc...even now !!! so I dont know why she would deny him.. may be his request had some punk flavor to it rather than mere me too thing.....

Mine were pierced when I was 1.5 years old, I still remember how badly I cried when the guy was piercing my ears Hmm, yeah.. maybe he was asking for punky kinda ear rings..

giving the male child a distinction between male and female body parts is okay, and i think if the male still wants to get his ear pierced after he is of age to understand then i think the mother can voice her opinion then.
But distinction between if a man can stay out later than a woman can is different. This is talking about hobbies or something a person enjoys. Obviously i believe that male or female same thing, but there are some things as a child that parents need to wait for. I think the mother should wait a little while before piercing the daughter's ears so the son and daughter fully understand that girls wear earrings and boys don't.(well most of them don't)

Otherwise i don't understand why there making such a big deal out of this? So what? the kid threw a tantrum cuz he didn't get the same treatment as his sisters? Its not WWII!
