The lead actress of Judaai (1997) could not stay separated from Bollywood for too long; Sridevi had to make a comeback. But contrary to expectations, her husband Boney Kapoor will not relaunch her.

History has it that three years ago, Boney had not let her work in a Yash Chopra film opposite Amitabh Bachchan, arguing that he wanted her to make a grand return in a home-production. Boney told Yash Chopra that he was keen to re-launch his wife in his own production and requested him to cast someone else in his.

At this point, Bachchan's good friend Amar Singh stepped in to convince Boney to let her do the film, but in vain, (Mumbai Mirror, July 28, 2008).

It turns out Sridevi's comeback film will be produced by R Balki (of Paa fame) and directed by Balki's wife Gauri Shinde.

Sridevi plays a woman who does not understand English but gets married to a very upwardly mobile man.

The story revolves around the repercussions of this marriage and the way in which she overcomes the issues. A source says, "Balki and Gauri have worked very hard on this subject for the past few months and are now ready to roll."

Rumour has it that Sridevi's comeback was supposed to be announced at Yash Raj Studios during a Kareena Kapoor-Sridevi interaction at a recent TV-film awards ceremony.

But Kareena, who had danced to a medley of Sridevi's songs, forgot about the announcement in a moment of nervousness and excitement.

Apparently, Sridevi was flooded with film offers since 2008. But post Judaai, she only did a cameo in Hall Bol (2008). Was she not signing films because she didn't want to go against Boney Kapoor's wishes?

The source adds, "She loved Balki and Gauri's film offer. She requested all her friends and relatives to keep it under wraps."

When contacted, Sridevi's husband refused to let out the secret. However, a source very close to the actress said, "Sridevi is very excited about her comeback. She has hit the gym and is regularly going to a nutritionist to get into shape." If there is scope for it, that is.

Raveena'snot Done

A fter a hiatus of five years from the silver screen, Raveena Tandon is making a comeback in Devang Dholakia's Zoom Straight To The Top.

A source said, "Raveena has been offered several scripts for a very long time and there were several talks of her comeback.

Recently, she signed Buddha with Amitabh Bachchan and is in talks with another production house."

When contacted, Tandon said, "This isn't specifically a comeback film. I was not away for that long. I just got an award for a Bengali film that I did last year. Besides Zoom Straight To The Top I have also signed on for two other films."

Last seen in Sandwich (2006), Tandon will now play the head honcho of a PR agency, which helps an upcoming actor attain stardom.

Dholakia said, "Raveena has been a friend for a really long time. This movie is based on the film industry and how a small town guy wants to make it in Bollywood."

He adds, "Raveena asked about every intricate detail of the script and cast. The entire movie will go on floors at the end of March and will be shot in Mumbai, so she will still be able to be around her family."
