"Mom you never say anything to bhaiyya!"

How many times have i said this to my mom when me and my brother fought! How many times have i asked my mom whom she loves more! She would say,'I can't chose between my two eyes. both are precious.' a mother's answer to sibling rivalry.

Todays episode took me to a different world of sibling rivalry...How many times we have seen two brothers fighting out of jealousy? Step-brothers,half brothers...this is first point where LTL differed from other shows..it showed abject rivalry between brother and sister..not real siblings but kins nevertheless...i know its just a show. but sometimes it makes me think in far deeper recess of conscience than anything else.

As i was told by many PM by my friends that it was a kala's show...Aaksha show...where everyone else took backseat..but i will say it was not just aaksha's show..yes she did a marvelous job..what an actress...she deserves standing ovation...lady macbeth through and through.šŸ‘ but i felt the show was more on the darker side of sibling rivalry...even without being present Dutta loomed large on the episode with kalavati..

I stopped and replayed many times the part where she is standing infront of the mirror drawing an image of Dutta and talking to him..his childhood pics and pics of youth lying in shambles..."tujhe jab naak bhi nahi poochna aata tha naa! tab se nafrat karti hoon tujhse! kahin durr andhere mein chod ke aati thi main...phir bhi roote roote ghar laut aata tha...meri maa ke gaale lag ke roota tha."

Can you feel the misery of hatred in those lines..aaksha was acting...but have you thought how miserable must be those ppl who spend their lives hating their own flesh and blood since such tender age..

Ramayan had a war but that was two kings fighting. they didn't have a link other than that of one being wronged by the other...But Mahabharat...it was a tale of bloodbath of one family. Of brothers and cousins fighting for power and supremacy....Duryodhan had hated his cousins since the moment he could understand the word "MINE"...Kalawati today reminded me of Duryodhan...a great warrior, a prince, a great friend, a loving brother and nephew....but all his qualities were washed away in his hatred and jealousy for his cousins...the Pandavas.

He could have lived well by giving away Indraprastha to Pandavas...it was barren land..smaller than his Hasthinapur..but his greed and jealousy would not allow even that...kalawati could have lived with torturing and separating Dutta from his lover nakkusha ...but no..she wanted his total destruction at any price....and this will lead us to another war of Mahabharat....

My only consolation is that this time atleast the king Drithrashtra (AaiSaheb) is not walking into this war as blind..both physically and blind in love for his favorite son. Here Aaisaheb at least knows who is wrong among her children. Maybe this time a mother would have to chose between her precious eyes....Something i wish no mother has to ever chose in reality.

Maa aap bhaiyya ko kuch nahi boltey...i hope this complain stays as only childhood sibling rivalry for every brother and sister and never escalates to the length we saw today in LTL...

Because no matter who won the Mahabharat....The war only made Parents lose their children. Drithrashtra, gandhari, kunti, drupadi, hiddimba..they all lost they sons...and they were all killed by their own kins.

Regards,
Shilpi

Yeah, it was full on sibling rivalry escalated to undefinable proportions due to situations than anything else, you have put it so perfectly herešŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘. Dutta though not present in flesh and blood was still there in each nd every frame. I can really empathize with Kala nd her behaviour, nd I don't feel that she is wrong even. She killed one nd tried to kill another but, I somehow don't feel those to be way too shocking offences nymore considering how many people even Dutta might have killed. Dutta and Kala are so much like each other that at times it feels like they are really a brother and sister nd not jst cousins. Nd that makes me wonder if Dutta would be the only one who would understand Kala's hatred towards him nd apologize to her nd make her understand the wrong in her ways.
Nd I really liked Duryodhan except for certain parts. Yeah, but wasn't he ready to give Indraprastha to Pandavas but changed his mind after, the root cause of all - a woman, Draupadi mockingly laughed at him when he fell into that pond that looked like floor in their palace in IndraprasthašŸ˜•............

beautifully put..yes, Dutta was there in every frame though he was not present there physically as it was all about the hatred Kala has for Dutta..and no motehr should ever be made to choose between any of her kids.. i too remember that line vividly where she says she would leave yound Dutta in the dark, but he would still keep coming back.. usually my hubby pooh poohs Indian shows, but for once, had teh mercy to not give running commentary and even obliged to rewind a scene when i did not hear a dialogue properly!
yes, AG was perfect today, but i wonder how much more will she go ahead in those vital scenes when D comes back.. thinkinf og them gives me goosebumps.. it will be clash of the titans..
and today we saw to what extent she can go to get revenge on Dutta.. as u said correctly, as time went by, her hatred grew deeper and deeper and separating D-N was too lil a revenge for her..but i never expected that she would imprison her own family.. that was ab absolute shocker for me and possibly her single minded devotion to vanquishing dutta even putting her own family at stake (rememebr diwali kmithai when anyone could have consumed thsoe sweets) makes her a more potent enemy than even Duryodhan for me

Excellent post...and so very apt about sibling rivalry, another one of the great themes in LTL, one which was explored in depth and all its rawness today...they've drawn to it in an unprecedented way as you said, and then dealt with it in an amazing manner too, showing just the right emotions, plugging in just the right dialogues that hit out and do such unanticipated damage while being true in their essence...they've done it complete justice really.

As for Dutta...I remember that back in the first and second week of January, when there was no Dutta to be seen in the 4 following episodes after the accident, we were all suffering from a low and many probably haven't watched those 4 episodes till date...but I remember getting myself up to watch them that weekend, and that was when I realized and even posted my thoughts in the ED...that though Dutta might not have been there then, or here now, his presence, was and will be alive in the show and its people always...because he is connected to each and every one of them and he is what they identify themselves with...like Kala herself said, he is Nakku's saab, Baaji's dost, Aai Saheb's son, Roops and Leela's Bhau, and the proverbial god and protector of the people of Patil Wadi...he defines them all with his persona, regardless of whether he is physically present or not...and their world revolves around him. So though Dutta wasn't in today's episode, I didn't miss him one bit...because he was there in thought and influence and even in silhouette...which is more than enough for me and I have no qualms in saying that today was Kala's day, which is true and totally deserved.

Brilliant analysis Shilpita!
Yes, the show has taken sibling rivalry to the next level and I cant wait to watch the clash between MR and AG as actors...they are brilliant.
I also liked the fact, that she has revealed that she killed DP....which was good cause otherwise there was no way to know it.
I love this show, its like no other...Ramayan, Mahabharat all woven together beautifully!
Brilliant actors and superb screenplay today!
Besides Ashka, I really liked Aai Saheb today - she played her part very well.

Now Kishore seems to be very suspicious, I have a feeling he is BH..

From another thread: I always felt Kala's hatred of Dutta stemmed from what she saw as losing her mother to Dutta. As a child the prejuidices you build stays on and at some point they become the truth. I have seen the same thing happenning with me. It perhaps take a lot of effort-education mainly from parents and formal as well as life's experiences to rid of those prejuidices. The same has happenned with Kala. When Dutta stepped into their lives AS prolly focussed her attention on the motherless child who had gone thru a lot since he was born. He soon became the apple of her eyes. Added to that he was the only boy with three sisters...perhaps the biggest hope of a widow like AS who was going thru a lot of struggle to bring up four kids. She never really had time for Kala to understand what she was going thru. As they grew older and Dutta perhaps reached an age to openly confront Kala...Kala had learnt to carefully hide her real feelings for Dutta and playing the protective elder sister to the hilt.
Kala grew up thinking that everything that is Dutta's is rightfully hers due to the wrongs he had brought about in her life. Thats why when he got wealthy and powerful she coveted his power and money but was content ruling his life on the sly as she was sure he was under her control. But when he fought with her for Naku she realized that the power she wanted over him now is Naku's. After that she renewed her efforts to seperate Naku and Dutta and was almost successful. But once again Naku's love became greater than her hatred and thats when she decided to finish off Dutta rather than losing to Naku.
But all the while she had carefully maintained her facade of a loving and fiercely protective elder sister. When she realized she had been unmasked she knew she has reached a point of no return. Thats why she admitted everything and held her family hostage. She knows that Dutta will surely confront her now but she is making a last ditch attempt to fight him on her own terms.
I always felt that Dutta at a subconscious level understands Kala's real feelings for him. Thats he is always detached from her(and his other sisters) vs Naku/Baji/AS. Perhaps he choses to answer that hatred with love...thats his way of dealing with it. Now I am curious to see how will the open confrontation between Kala and Dutta happen. How will CVs bring about it. The confrontation happenning over phone or Dutta coming to know of it from someone else(apart from Kala) sounds too little and too less now. It has to be face to face between Kala and Dutta. I hope the CVs dont disappoint us now after the great special epi. I hope we see some great action scenes and some fabulous acting chops from Mishal and AG.

Shilpi...same goes to me. i used to always accuse my mom tat u love him more than me and wen angry i used to say tat u have adopted me i knw..he is ur real sonšŸ˜†...but yeah it was jst childhood stuff...i have never stopped loving my brother...iinfact i have always been the one saving him from my parents scolding for the wrongs he do
Kala tuk it all wrong but sumwhere i dnt feel she is all wrong...maybe AS unknwingly failed sumwhere..as it is said u cant clap with single hand...it takes both for a clap...sameway i thnk so sumwhere AS must have been more closer to Dutta but then there has to various reason tooo like Dutta was parentless child..sumone else son and so we end up taking care more of such person mainly not to end up thnking tat i cud have done better with him. As kala was her own and bit older AS must have assumed tat she will understand...but i thnk the minute AS accepted Dutta as her son and into the family Kala chose to hate him than accept

Shilpi, very matured post...šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ‘.
Yes Kala is like what she is, is indeed because of her lost childhood or her childhood trauma...we all have our sibling rivalry, I remember, my sister and me used to fight, Ma coming to stop and we ended up fighting with her also and Baba shouting at the end 'ei tomader ma meyer jhogra bondho korbe'....(will you stop your mother-daughter fight) ...but then psychological cases like Kala cannot overcome the rivalry and carry it to their adulthood....I liked the Mahabharata comparision of yours too...all very powerful people but then what did they end of with....losing their sons/husbands etc etc.....the Mahabharata teaches us some valuable lessons of life....you might uphold your ego but at the end of the day is it worth it?
Personally in this serial I do not want Dutta to punish Kala....as Dutta is indebted to Ayi Sahib somewhere, because of her, he has seen his adulthood and has a family, Ayi Sahib was under no compulsion to keep Dutta back with her when she lost her husband....but yes I want Kala punished...by the family.....Sud of course should be punished severly that Dutta can do but the family should make Kala realise how wrong she is....
I will also agree that Ayi Sahib should have taken care of Kala's problem as a mother, she should have been more careful but then bringing up 4 children single handedly is not easy and for a mother it cannot be a greater punishment to see your children suffering....
