Lucky Rakshanda Khan!

R akshanda Khan was watching the first Indian Idol last year when she told herself, "It would have been nice to be associated with this show." Her wish came true this year when Sony offered her Takaa Tak, a show related to Idol where contestants share their feelings with her. "I have often noticed that things happen for me when I'm not planning them," says Rakshanda.

The actress-anchor, who plays Tanya in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhie Bahu Thi and was also in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin as the catty Mallika, says that though it felt great to be part of the two most popular serials in the country, she also missed anchoring. And this wish, too, was fulfilled: the heavens dropped into her lap Jodee Kamaal Ki, a show that tests the compatibility quotient of two related people.

While Takaa Tak will soon come to an end -the Idol finals are just a few days away -- her character in Kyunki..., too, has a taken a backseat. "I think once the next generation leap happens, maybe my character will be reactivated." Who will her on-screen children be after the leap? She laughs. "I have no idea and I won't be surprised if some of my friends end up calling me 'Mama'!" She adds, "I have been on a forced break as there is just Jodee... and Takaa Tak that I'm shooting for. But Takaa Tak has been great fun. These kids are not as seedha saadha as they look. We have had a great time with them pulling pranks on each other. Once, we all conned Panna Gill into proposing me, and when he did, I spanked him and threatened to get him out of the show!"

So who is her Idol? "I think the fact that Karunya sings well is universally accepted. He has a terrific range, though I think he needs to work on his stage presence. Ideally I'd have preferred a Karunya-Ameya Date finals."

She has been fortunate enough to get a variety of roles so far, says Rakshanda. "That's why I am still not bored doing TV." What about films? "I have a mental block about some things. For instance, I can't bring myself to drive a car and the same goes for acting in films. Even TV was more accidental than planned." Marriage, too, seems a nebulous idea. "As I said earlier, I can never plan things, though I think it's time somebody played Cupid for me. It's nice to have someone doing that." Just the way she did for friends Apoorva Agnihotri and Shilpa Saklani? "Yeah, maybe now it's their turn to find me a guy."
