hii :)) welcome to the KMH2 forum dear, hope u have a great time with us :)
regarding TRP or the Television Rating Point, i too dont know much but will tell u whatever i've learnt about it so far. There is a device installed to the TV set at around 4000 or 6000 houses in the 4 major cities of India. They record which channel these 4000 or 6000 families are viewing at different times and then they prepare a data for each program on the basis of the number of views. So for a program to get more TRPs, more number of these houses shud watch it. Its on this basis that the media people decide how popular a show is, despite this system being faulty and the media people accepting it. i m not that clear, hope someone comes up with better explanation.I found this in the Times of India-
Television Rating Point (TRP) is a tool provided to judge which programmes are viewed the most. This gives us an index of the choice of the people and also the popularity of a particular channel. For calculation purpose, a device is attached to the TV set in a few thousand viewers' houses for judging purpose. These numbers are treated as sample from the overall TV owners in different geographical and demographic sectors. The device is called as People's Meter. It records the time and the programme that a viewer watches on a particular day. Then, the average is taken for a 30-day period which gives the viewership status for a particular channel.
