There weren't any major surprises when it came to those leading ladies who found their way into the Top-10 charts. The ones who have been doing consistently well over a period of time (Kareena Kapoor, Katrina Kaif) continued to rule from the top, an unusual suspect like Anushka Sharma made her way in (Band Baaja Baaraat, Badmaash Company) while Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was out of it with three flops in a row (Raavan, Action Replayy, Guzaarish).
Kareena Kapoor
Golmaal 3 - Blockbuster We Are Family - Average Milenge Milenge - Below average
Kareena Kapoor has a knack of picking up projects which do guarantee some level of success. She wanted herself to be the only actress in Golmaal 3 and had her way. No wonder, she is the one who is smiling most with the film turning out to be a blockbuster success. She also attempted a tear jerker and found mild success coming her way with We Are Family. Credit it to her star power that even her half a decade old film Milenge Milenge eventually managed to sail through. Katrina Kaif
Raajneeti - Superhit Tees Maar Khan - Average
Katrina Kaif kept her clean run intact with two more films turning out to be plus outings for her in 2010. Both Raajneeti and Tees Maar Khan had featured her in contrasting roles. If the former had her in a de-glam part for most of her scenes, the latter had her all dolled up. Frankly, except for a couple of scenes in Raajneeti and a 'Sheila Ki Jawani' in Tees Maar Khan, she was hardly the contributing factor to the success of the films except for the fact that her name did add weight to these projects. From the core of her heart, even Katrina would be looking at much more important characterisations in films to come. Deepika Padukone
Housefull - Hit Lafangey Parindey - Average Break Ke Baad - Below average Karthik Calling Karthik - Flop Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey - Disaster
Deepika Padukone had a very mixed year. Before 2010, she had four films to her name in her entire career while now in a single year; she had as many as five releases. She experimented with her roles and left a mark in each of her outings. However, her only big success was Housefull. Films like Lafangey Parindey and Break Ke Baad proved though that this is one girl who has it in her to 'perform' as well rather than 'just look good'. A perfect mix of beauty and talent, if there is one actress who is a serious contender to make her way to the top, it is Deepika Padukone.
Sonam Kapoor
I Hate Luv Storys - Hit Aisha - Average
Compared to Deepika, Sonam believes in going slow and that's the reason why she was seen in only two films. Luckily for her, she managed a 100% success rate with I Hate Luv Storys being the only romcom of 2010 which is a clean hit. This was also her first after the failure of Saawariya and Delhi 6. Aisha too managed to scrape through and while the girl is still learning, she is one of the few upcoming actresses in Bollywood on whom industry would be willing to bet its money on.
Kajol
My Name Is Khan - Hit We Are Family - Average Toonpur Ka Superrhero - Flop
Old may not be gold but still stays on to be in demand in case of Kajol. Karan Johar wanted an actress who had it in her to come up with a knock out performance in a serious film like My Name Is Khan. He didn't think beyond Kajol and the lady too obliged with a powerful act in the film. She was convincing in We Are Family as well and though one would have expected this to be yet another superb outing in her portfolio, it wasn't meant to be. Her miniscule act in hubby's Toonpur Ka Superrhero didn't have anything to write home about. She has gone on a sabbatical and one waits to see who wakes her up out of slumber. Anushka Sharma
Badmaash Company - Semi-hit Band Baaja Baaraat - Semi-hit
She could well be termed as a quiet baby out there. There are some who make noise to find attention coming their way. There are some who can't afford to make noise because there isn't anything about them that deserve an attention. And then there is someone like Anushka who comes up with a superb performance in Band Baaja Baaraat, adds her bit to Badmaash Company and still prefers to let her work do all the talking. Bollywood could well be benefiting immensely from this pretty girl in films to come if she makes the right choices from here on. Kangna Ranaut
Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai - Hit No Problem - Flop Knock Out - Flop Kites (special appearance) - Flop
If there is one girl who is on a signing spree by dozens, it is Kangna Ranaut. Don't be surprised by the volume of releases that she had in 2010. She may have had four films of hers arrive in the year gone by but the volume isn't going to decrease over next two years at the least. Her only calling card in 2010 was Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai which was a clean hit though she was criticised massively in both No Problem as well as Knock Out. Still, this petite girl could well have people sing a different tone once she brings out some new goodies out of her bag in 2011. Vidya Balan
Ishqiya - Above average
Want someone to perform? Then bring on Vidya Balan. Being overtly selective about the choices that she makes, Vidya Balan held on to her horses despite the massive appreciation that she received for Ishqiya. The film was also one of the only few successful outings of the first half of 2010. A seductress to the core, she didn't quite go on a signing spree and concentrated entirely on No One Killed Jessica. One hopes though that she would be more than just a yearly arrival and is seen more often Priyanka Chopra
Anjaana Anjaani - Above average Pyaar Impossible - Flop
Priyanka Chopra had more or less a forgettable 2010 though she could take solace from the fact that her Anjaana Anjaani did manage a very good opening for itself. Of course Anjaana Anjaani couldn't quite sustain itself for weeks to come but Priyanka was noticed for her convincing act. Also, her name in the credits ensured a certain weight to the project. This wasn't the case though in Pyaar Impossible where she was roped in to add star value to this Uday Chopra comeback. This move by Yash Raj Films didn't quite work and now Priyanka is banking on some exciting projects that she has in hand in 2011
