Hi Hope!
Excellent Take!!!
Will reply in sort of the same way.
1.) Manav: Excellent job by Manav. The best thing about him is that he knows how to protest in a way that is not disrespectful, so that tomorrow there is nothing nasty left to moan about from his side at least. Very good job.
I too was thinking about the ghar jamai thing they are stressing about. Manav is certainly not a 'ghar-jamai'. It is just the V-gang's idea, cos they hate Manav and when you hate someone, you tend to think negatively no matter how right he is.
My father, at one instance, stayed at his in-laws house for about two months, despite his brothers staying quite close by, when he had a severe accident and was recuperating. (We were not at our home town). The reason- his brothers flatly refused that they would not be able to take care. (We had family problems) and my Mom certainly could not handle a bedridden man all alone who was not in a condition to get back to our home town. We were at my maternal grandparents' for almost two months (more than Manav- Archana intend to stay). Does that make my father a 'ghar jamai'? Certainly not! Such gestures are kind and helpful gestures of a loving family, nothing else. They only strengthen bonds, like my father became very close to my maternal grandpa after the incident.
Similarily Manav is in no way a ghar jamai. It is just the V-gang, Dharmesh and Majusha who refer to him as one. I don't think Sulo-Mano or Satish call him a gharjamai.
2.) Dharmesh: I agree with your take that Dharmesh is no villain. He is a grey character. The two flaws in his character are:
1.) Self-opiniated: I agree that his viewpoint is bound to be different from Satish, Sulo etc. cos he does not know Manav well. But if he does not know Manav well, then why has he formed such a tough opinion of Manav? Why does he not even give the benefit of doubt to people like Satish, Sulo, Mano- thinking that they know Manav much better than me, having known him for two years? Here Dharmesh completely irritates me, cos he not only disregards their opinion, but has sort of brainwashed the rest of the family members too. Still, I would not say he is completely bad, the V-gang is worse than him cos they know Manav quite well, but still choose to be blind and ungrateful to him.
Dharmesh wants everyone to listen to his POV (remember his dialogues- "
Try and understand Archu, Maine jo kiya, meri jagah koi aur hota to yehi karta"'-) but does not listen to others views AT ALL.
2.) Hypocrite: He hasn't forgiven Archana for one slap, but completely forgotten that what he was doing (sending an innocent to jail) was something very very wrong. When Archana slapped him, he did not think for one second that what she did was what anyone would have done in her place, when someone whom you loved has been thrown in jail for third degree torture. And then he goes on with his rant of '
Maine jo kiya, meri jagah koi aur hota to yehi karta" -🤢
He didn't even TRY to do things the right way. He just choose the simplest way out- send Manav to jail. Satish too eventually agreed to send Manav to jail, but only when Jay and Dharmesh very smartly convinced him that there was no route out. Then also Satish felt guilty, and my heart went out to him. Dharmesh does not feel guilty in the least till date. He behaves like the victim. 'Bechara Dharmu, jisko Gandi bacchi Archu ne thappad mara' - Pah! Fatty! 😡
And when Manav returned from jail, he behaved as if he was the victim and Manav was the criminal and a disgusting person, whereas ideally he should have apologised to Manav. He didn't even feel guilty of sending the man to third degree torture! Cold blooded man!!! Arey if you are angry that you had to go to jail, then be angry at Archu na? Why be angry with Manav? In contrast, Satish was so modest and apologised to Manav and gave him a raise as well as penance. My blood boils remembering the dharmesh-Manav scene. I'm eagerly waiting to see poetic justice, I will relish the scene with glee. 😈
