Hope's Take 5

You know guys I must say PR is worth watching again. I know it is not as romantic as most of the ArMan fans want it to be but it is what I signed up for - a middle class family story with believable family tensions. Ok so what did I think today.............?

1. Manav ' A standing ovation👏. Seriously, today Manav excelled for me. Being a ghar jamai is not a nice thing in India and if seen in a middle-class family is a poor reflection on a man's capacity as a provider. Manav knows this very well. What's more, he has been a damn hard worker and single-handedly managed the running of a household involving 5 adults including college tuitions and teenage allowances. For a person with basic education and a blue collar job that is commendable. More than I can say for a college grad like Vinod who has always needed his salary coupled with either his father's pension or his sister's income or his wife's salary to make ends meet. Yet, this Manav who has always felt it unthinkable and demeaning to seek help put all self-depreciating feelings aside and in a practical tone and thought accepted reality and his only option ' the breathing space that only Sulo could provide. He cannot turn to his own family home as his mother's taunts are what got Archu in this condition to begin with, he cannot turn to Ajit because what Savita left unfinished with Archu, Rasika would complete with pleasure ' even Manjusha would visit the basti for this reason. So Manav Kudos to you, Sir, big time. He knows what is to come and in spite of the welcome he gets he keeps a low profile so that HE is not making the situation worse. Considerate as always😃.

2. Sulo - A mother's pain, fear, gratitude and acceptance ' a range of emotions conveyed so beautifully in 30 minutes👏. She went to offer help not for Archu's sake but for her own. It was her need to nurture not Archu's. Her fear for Archu's health and safety and her fear of Archu's rejection YET AGAIN braved so well and covered so artfully when she made her offer so defiantly. Sulo is at her weakest around Archu but it's all tough love for her. All tough love. The look of relief and then gratitude when Manav accepted was heart-rendering to see, though subtly enacted. I was proud of Sulo too today, she put Archu's health above any taunts or visible disapproval she might receive from Manjusha (who she has always tried to please) and acted as she thought necessary rather than sought family approval and support. She handled the situation when she returned firmly and admirably.

3. The K Siblings ' Mr. Elastic is back like an unwanted boomerang. If he keeps snapping back and forth like this he is going to give me whiplash. Vinod, the house belongs to your parents and your parents can offer shelter and support to whichever children they want to, whenever they want to. Now snap back to your wife and your sisters and explain this simple fact to them.

Varsha declared that Manav has lost her respect YET AGAIN. Honey, I got news for you ' gaining your respect is not a top priority for ANYONE these days. Now can you please proceed to your time-out chair and wait your ration of humble pie.

Vaishali is now ON THE SIDE of the vahini who walked away with the sole family earner and every valuable belonging in the house including the black and white TV (which by the way was never bought back). So I don't understand this ' she can forgive a SIL who took her brother and his financial support away from her aged retired parents but she cannot forgive a BIL for whom her sister CHOSE to walk away. Hmm, that logic escapes me.

4. The K Damaads ' A standing ovation for the boys👏. While the girls were huffing and puffing through their ruffled feathers, the damaads were cool as cucumbers and CHOSE to not meddle (as reasonable and sensible human beings) and leave their MIL and FIL to handle the situation with their own children. Very wise decision. But then again they are not K's by blood so they do possess a brain and independent thought.

5. Archu ' Her reaction was mixed for me today. Things I liked ' she was genuinely concerned about the expected treatment of Manav even to the point of being uncaring of her health, was genuinely confident in their ability to tough it out and come out on top and genuinely affronted when she witnessed Manav being snubbed by her brother. Her refusal to go though was not just all of these things but ego too. She had rejected her mother after the wedding and to accept help from that same mother for a reason and predicament that she knows was valid is really irking her. Archana was the obedient child her entire life. She rebelled this time against all odds and the one thing that she rebelled against her mother for ' Sulo's fears and caution was justified. Blatant failure and obvious reminders of it are thorns in the side of rebellious children. Her health, her situation, Manav's predicament is not Sulo's fault. She knows this but does not want to accept defeat in front of her mother. It is this same bruised ego that did not leave her in a position to boldly react to Vinod's and Manjusha's snubs. She knows Manav is being snubbed and silently humiliated because of her past love-crazy behaviour but she had no leg to stand on today. Actually, I don't want Archu to fight for Manav with her siblings - I want her to remember the snubs, the change of heart, everything when she decides to spoon feed varsha next time or side with her vahini over her dada.

Those were my thoughts. What were yours?

Hi mylady Hope!!! Excellent take, quite coinciding with my own. Here's what I felt about the characters- (copied directly from SOTD thread)

Vinod Vaishali Varsha are SICK. Manju is much much better than these three in some ways. She may be bad, but she has never betrayed her blood relations like Ajit and Rasika. 95% times she has been bad to save them, not for her own self.

The V siblings deserve SLAPS. This is the way they chose to treat a sick sister. Not for a moment were they worried about her.

Varsha: Bonne said it well. She's dead for me as well. She can never be exonerated now. I hope Satish dumps her for good. She deserves to stay lonely and cry.

Vaishali: Spolit pampered little girl. Just wait till that Jay makes your rich motu a bhikari, and then when he has no place to go he will also come to the K house as a gharjamai. I really want to see Dharmu as a ghar jamai facing Manju's taunts.

Vinod: Your sister gave up her education for you, handled your daughter like a mother, sold her jewellery to give money for your flat. What have you done for her in return? Insensitive heartless creature. You're an insult to the festival called Rakshabandhan. I sincerely sincerely hope Archu REFUSES to tie you a rakhi next year.

As for Manav, I have lost count of how much he has done for these K people. These folks are really ungrateful. In a jiffy, they have forgotten his mountain of good deeds. I really really hope and pray that the CV's show Manav as successful and the K family looking up at him. They are nothing but ungrateful creatures, all of them.

Satish: Nice man, but is proving to be useless. Cannot control his loudmouth wife, does not even point her hypocricy, is not facing his in-laws, and is not even revealing Jay's truth. As of now, useless. And may I add, slightly irritating. If this continues, he will slowly take over Damo's place in the serial.

Mano: Fab judge of character, and the most mature man in the K house. Manav fans, we must welcome him to our group- he is a confirmed Manav fan. From the very beginning of the serial, when he liked him from marriage, got Archu married to him to the current track, where he pointed out Manav's good points- he is a Manav fan all the way. He sees Manav just the way we do, he clearly has a soft corner for this very special guy.

Sulo: Very nice woman. But I want her to control her children. Her children are behaving way too rudely nowadays. I hope she scolds them if they dare misbehave with Manav or with herself.

Archu: True to her character, she will fight like a sherni for Manav. A wounded sherni, that too. And we all know how badly a wounded sherni snaps, right? Atta girl Archu go! And take badla from everyone! Give one or two bad-dua to Manju, I don't mind. Slap Varshu, I don't mind at all. Sneer at Vaishali, she deserves it. Just be good to your Mom and Dad and Satish, they deserve it.

Finally Manav: Poochi poo darling gets lots of hugs from me, he needs to focus a lot in the coming weeks. Dearie, go get a job, use your frustration as a fire which will burn you to turn you into pure gold. Go and do well, for your Archu's sake! You gotta do well and show those stupid Karanjkars what big losers they are, Dharmesh and Vinod in particular. And please, no tow-towing anyone in that house. Just make tea for Sulo and Mano in the morning if you wish, bas. Your sasur Mano could really do with some good male bonding, he seems fed up with the ladies anyway, save his sanity, else he will end up running to Jamaica just like Kools predicted. 😆

Niki:

I agree with your entire post except Satish's part😛😆

let me tell you why.

I believe there are only two people who REALLY know Manav and believe in him - against all odds. how that belief came about is immaterial but the conviction that it lead to is important

they understand his values, his hard workign nature, his desire to self-help, his self-respect, his insecurities and his thinking

they are Archu and Satish

I know this because I have two such people in my life - my dad and jeeju.

when people really believe in you, they trust in your ability to survive against the odds and they don;t help unless you approach them as a sign of respect of your person. this is not hesitation but belief.

if approached he will help I am sure.

If he lps now when not asked, it will negate his belief in manav and be a sign of acceptance of Manav's failure. that is why he is silent and inactive.

it is not because he is useless but because he is a measured person who sees and reacts as the situation demands.

Okayyy ... but there is still one thing that I want him to do .. tell his darling wife about the visit manav paid him at his office to convince him about giving his and varsha's marriage another chance....
Oh , and yeah , I want him to fling the word "abortion" at her face every time she talks about insensitivity and hurting her mum's feelings..

Hope, you know I wrote all that just after I read Tanya Di's update. Those were my impulsive thoughts. Actually I was a little irked by Satish, not cos he is not helping Manav with a job, but cos he has such a simple way of solving the mess- he just needs to tell the K's:
1.) Archu ran away bcos HE told her to, not cos Manav instigated her. You see how the Ks will shut up then.
2.) He just needs to confirm Manav's truth, by saying Manav is not lying at all- Jay is indeed evil and I heard him say so with my own two ears.

The K's trust and respect him too much. If he says this much, they will understand. Then Manav and Archu wont be treated like dirt in this way. Manav will, on the other hand, be treated with respect cos he tried to save Archu from Jay. I simply don't know why Satish is not saying the truth, not even to Varsha.

Now that I think about it, I was a little harsh to him I guess, by calling him useless 😆 Hey Hope, you know I love him too, little gulabjamun he is. But I want to see him thoda active. Give him some role in the story CV's. Nowadays he reminds me of Damodar, only mutters in the background about Manav Archana. Even his story with Varsha is not moving forward. He isn't even scolding Varsha or pointing out her hypocrisy. I really don't want this character to become like Damodar.

😆

Thinking of it, why not???

Manav Manav take a bow

You get a thumbs up in today's show.

For being the considerate fellow you are

And thinking of the consequences far.

Get up, and back in the game

Put the K siblings to shame

Show them you're better than the best

Now take not a moments rest.

You are the hero of many eyes

Rise above the facade of lies

And insults heaped on you

By the inhabitants of the K zoo

Cos those fools will never realize

What a gem you are, only Mano's wise.

Go on, make your wife proud

While we cheer for you clear and loud!!!

Oh , I think she will .. in fact .. by the time her health gets better, manav gets a job and they are ready to leave the K house .. she is going to be so disgusted with everyone ( except her parents..) that I think later when her siblings are in trouble , she probably wont even have that inclination to go all out and help them .. sure she is going to help ... but I think she would never be able to completely forgive and forget the way they are going to treat manav...

How times change .. this is the same house which was her home once upon a time , her entire world , considering she has led such a sheltered life .. now she just cant wait to get outta here .. she is feeling suffocated...

I pity her more than Manav. He has sort of toughened up his heart and will be out looking for work the whole day, but she will be at home and will have to face her folks. I can imagine the gaalis going on in Holy Archu's pavitra brain right now.😆

Her siblings are chameleons. Vinod disappointed me the most. He was shown to be a good brother earlier.
