Is The Arjuhi Magic Back?
Doing sequels of popular serials has become a happening trend, but most such endeavors are flops. Season 2 of Dill Mill Gayye (DMG) and Miley Jab Hum Tum (MJHT) for instance failed to deliver the ratings and were eventually cancelled. Will Kitani Mohabbat Hai 2 suffer the same fate? Only time will tell!
Season 1 had a nouveau concept that immediately captured the viewers' imagination: Ek dil ke liye duniya…ek pal ke liye zindagi! A gripping plot that left viewers curious as to how Arjun Punj, a powerful tycoon, ended up in jail, and where did his love fail? Season 2 held promise as it featured the same hit jodi of Karan Kundra & Kritica Kamra (Arjun & Arohi) and a so called new story. While the pairing still stirs the heartstrings, the same cannot be said about the story. It appears to be a rather poor copy of the Meeenakshi Sheshadri and Jackie Shroff hit film "Hero". Arohi, the daughter of a police family, gets kidnapped by Arjun, the adopted son of a gangster, trying to rescue his daddy dearest.
To make matters worse the sequences border on the ridiculous, and the plot is quite predictable. The macho hero gets stripped by the heroine's friends at a bachelor party. Arjun, the gangster, is shown meeting and threatening the police family in person after the kidnapping, but none of them bothers to track him?! Arohi, who previously had doubts about Arjun's character, now appears to be in love with him though she believes he is married and supposedly took advantage of her best friend-cum-new chachi! In summary, the paper thin plot makes the characterizations, particularly Arjun and Arohi, look absurd and unrealistic. The secondary cast is huge, but the relational charm is amiss. Especially absent are the excellent father-son bonding and friendship pairings that gave season 1 its warmth. The two characters that do stand out are Chipku, Arohi's unwanted fianc, and her khadoos chachu - they are the scene stealers of the show.
What does still remain magical is the pairing - Karan Kundra and Kritica Kamra's chemistry remains top-notch. And the updated Kitani Mohabbat Hai tune can teleport you to a better universe. If they manage to improve the story and strengthen the characterizations then Kitani Mohabbat Hai 2 may just succeed and last beyond the 150 episodes it is currently slated for.
