He started out as a model and has dabbled in English theatre

"I play a mortal who marries a modern-day witch in Shararat — Thoda Jaadu Thodi Nazaakat," says Mahesh Thakur of his role in the sitcom which is aired on Star Plus.

"Much to my character's dismay his daughter too inherits his wife's magical powers when she turns 18.

The show is charged with fantasy and cashes in on the deadly combination of humour and magic."

Mahesh, who has been a resident of Lokhandwala for nearly six years now has also acted in serials like Tu Tu Main Main, Hera Pheri, Kudrat and Doli Leke Aiyee Hai Dulhaniya.

After completing an MBA in the US he returned to India seven years ago.

"I was eager to be back in Mumbai and started my career as a model," says Mahesh who has modeled in ads for Matiz, Onida and Maaza.

It was his role in the serial Sailaab, however, that eventually made him a household name.

Mahesh has also dabbled in English theatre. "I have acted on stage and in feature films as well but I enjoy doing serials the most.

As an actor it is immensely satisfying and I am doing various kinds of roles," says the actor whose silver screen ventures include Rajshri Productions' Hum Saath Saath Hain.

Apart from Shararat he is also starring in the serial Hamari Bahu Malathy Iyer opposite Sridevi.
