And luckily if any of their flicks work at the Box Office and they happen to taste the flavor of success, their attitude undergoes drastic change, overnight. The attitude of being the "stars" of Bollywood seems to show up from nowhere. One such incident happened when Subhash Ghai was casting for Shaadi Se Pehle, the upcoming film from his production house. Subhash Ghai had planned this film with a view to make a light masala film. While casting Shaadi Se Pehle, he thought of having Priyanka Chopra play the lead role opposite Akshaye Khanna. Besides Priyanka got her first big hit with Aitraaz that brought her to the attention of the audiences. Incidentally, Aitraaz was a Mukta Arts film. The film gave a solid kick to Priyanka's career. After Aitraaz, Priyanka had committed to do a film for Mukta Arts. Hence, Mr. Ghai offered her for the Shaadi Se Pehle. But here's the reply that he got from her. According the Mr. Ghai, Priyanka responded saying she needed to be cast opposite relatively bigger actors than the present ones. She also felt that her role was too thin for her newly acquired status. This of course came during the time when she had signed up for Rakesh Roshan's Krrish.
Besides what pulled our attention in particular is the statement regarding the costars that she wants to work with - "relatively bigger actors". Now what does that mean? Not many in the industry will doubt the acting credentials of Akshaye Khanna and the star sex-appeal of Mallika Sherawat. After hearing something like this, one definitely wonders how Aamir Khan manages to give blockbuster films, regardless of the directors and costars he works with. Most of them at times happen to be ones who might not have had a very interesting career graph. Still Aamir goes ahead with them and succeeds in most cases. Truly some of his fans say that not every star can be Aamir. Anyways, everyone is liable to their own opinion and we don't really wish to be judgmental here. People have different perspectives about things and different reasons for making their decisions and we respect that. Besides, you never know, Shaadi Se Pehle might just do the trick for Ayesha Takia (who plays lead role in the film), similar to what Aitraaz did for Priyanka Chopra. |
