How did Kajol get to where she is today?

😛 I have been wondering how Kajol got to the level she is at today. I am not doubting her talent or acting ability. But, was she just damn lucky or what? She pretty much had most of her hits with the Johars/Chopras, like Rani and Preity. But, if you look at her filmography, most of it is "safe." I have hardly noticed any risks or forays into meaningful/woman-oriented cinema. Sure, she tried some interesting roles in Gupt and Dushman, but she never did films like Black or Provoked.

She just had her second baby and will only do selected films now in the future. I still think she has yet to explore her potential. I hope she does one "risky" role. But, I don't see it happening. 😕

i think in her case the role doesn't really have to be risky, b/c she makes the characters larger than life...even the ones that you probably wouldn't expect a big impact from like anjali in K3G, but in other cases she did make risky moves, like doing gupt and being negative! Also....she did have an unconventional launch and some of her early films had her in the lead, while the hero was the 2nd lead like the one with jeetendra and another one with vikas bhalla!

so to answer your question: the key word here is talent! she may have played it safe, but i think her characters were good and memorable...or she's just that good of an actress that we think she played it safe!!! I personally don't think she's a director-based actor, but a script-based one!!

shes a bit irrelevant now but some of hr movies like ddlj, kkhh, and k3g were really good. unfotunately they do not make such entertaining movies like these anymore. i really hope that karan johar makes another k3g type movie with a big starcast .

I don't think it was only luck..

When she debuted she was very raw and she gradually improved. Kajol was in the top 3 race at around 1998 when actors like Madhuri, Juhi and Sri Devi were retiring....

Kajol gave 3 hits that year.. pyaat tou hona hi tha, pyar kiya tou darna kya and kucch kucch hota hai and the last movie broke all records and gave her the numero uno position. Her pairing with SRK was applauded so was her acting as she caried two different roles beautifully.

Then... she got married(Which i think was too early) and made a come back with K3G which again was a hit and everyone went gaga over how she managed to look so good despite being married.

The fact that she married at the peak of her career made everyone talk and im sure gave her a boost. Everyone was discusing how she got married at such a young age and blah blah and her come back proved that fans still loved her.

Of course there were debacles in between like kucch khatti kucch meethi, raju chacha and dil kya kare and two of them she did only cause of her husband.

Those who say Kajol isn't versatile have to watch dushman, gupt, fanaa,, kkhh, k3g, kucch khatti kucch meethi, u me aur hum.

She is my fav and i can go on and on...

as far as not working with other directors go... i dunno why that is a problem

She is working with ppl she is comfortable with and is giving hits and great movies and performances worth remembering.

Kajol has stated that she does not like art cinema . She has denied great roles like in Shakti-The Power that was later played by Karisma...

I think Kajol is like the greatest actor in Bollywood... ever !

Rani comes second and I also love Jaya G :P

Because she can act n emote well tho i think she screeches a lot sumtimes , she managed to get big banners to showcase her talent n her onscreen jodi with SRK played a major part for the adulation she gets.
