Guy's i would like your opinion on Master Chef India. I am doing a story on the same for a Mumbai based print publication.

Your take on the show!
The concept is unique hence it is slowing growing in terms of popularity!
Cookery based shows will always have limited audiences!
The drama is less thank god!
But too much Akshay, the other judges seem to be playing second fiddle. Akshay is no real food expert.

Thanks

It is definitely getting better. Not as slick as the MC Australia version, Top Chef, Hell's Kitchen; but it has found a viewer in me. Would I drop everything to watch this show?? No.

The channel/producers have thought beyond the usual music, dance and comedy based reality shows. That is commendable. Expect the show to do better in terms of TRP. Would help them experiment with other concepts. As for the limited audience, people mistook this show for a cookery show. It is a cookery competition. Secondly, cooking is considered something that the 'aunties' would take interest in. Check out the amount of people in this forum. Its not working with the IF demographics. Thankfully, it is working with the metered zone ones.

The drama has definitely reduced. Amazed that the last episode did not have a contestant breaking down. Indian reality shows work on emotions. Enough with the glycerin overdose, already!

Desi reality shows need celebrities to grab the eyeballs. Take out Akshay Kumar from the show, and the numbers would sure dwindle. Perhaps they could have got in a celebrity chef to judge the show, one who has more knowledge in this field. Would that have helped rake in the TRPs?? Not sure. Glad that they have toned down the diatribes, though. It was a major put off.

Good luck with your article.

I think its the concept of the show tht has grabbed the audience attention. Its a one-of-a-kind concept, being shown for the first time in India. Its commendable on part of the team to have thought of doing something like this. Even though its a concept tht already existed, its new to Indian television.
The star power of Akshay is surely over-powering the actual judges Ajay and Kunal. The judges have to be given more prominance. They have more knowledge coz its their profession. They know how to make the dish look, taste and feel good while Akshay's knowledge is limited to eating! He may have been a cook, but he surely wasnt a chef! Akshay's voice is (most of the times) loud and his manners (with the food) are uncouth!
There are a lot of things tht can be improved, but, nevertheless, I'm enjoying the show. Its got a lot of entertainment value. The journey of the contestants and their experiences (good, bad n weird!) keeps the show going. All in all, its a great entertainer!

I think audiences will be slow on the uptake...perhaps because Indian audiences are a bit slow on "different" kind of shows?
Compare the first season of Khatron Ke Khiladi with the 3rd season.
Singing and Dancing shows are not "different", so they don't have to try that hard for people to come watch them.
Akshay Kumar needs to be there, and supervise things, because this is the first season. People watch it because of Akshay Kumar, season 2 can concentrate more on the other judges, because by then, the audience will be familiar with them.
This show is great, but because people in India have not understood the concept of the show...like they're expecting an actual "this is how you cook" show...it is not that.
I love the show, I love the extra episode "Zaykebaazon Ka Safar", because there, they complete the need for the "teach me how to cook" show...which I think should be promoted too.
I don't understand the Indian audience most of the times, but to me, Masterchef India is doing really well!

Well I found this show to be quite lame. It lacks the charm that other chef contests have. The contestants till now didnot show any visible gusto that contestants of masterchef Australia has shown.

Well it can happen only in India where there are contestants who wont even touch eggs(as she admitted during auditions, and she never did touch non veg after being in the show) are doing incredibly well. For the sake of God how can a master chef not be cooking meat.

There are no celebrity challenges......I guess Akshay knows that his chefs lack the talent.

No masterclass with celebrity chefs
In the episode where the ameteur chefs went to a dhaba, the truck drivers were all well groomed with neat haircut and no facial hair.......since when did truckes start shaving on a daily basis.....if u want truckers to judge...plz get truckers not extras from local studios

And as for the opening scores there it resembles "Booyaka 619" theme music of WWE star Rey Mesterio.

And lastly I have no clue of Akshay's culinary background, working as a commies for a few years in bangkok does not give you the palate and sophistication required to judge a dish ahead of the chefs there. Think about it, would he ever appreciate caviare and sparkling wine, or a sophisticated dish like smoked salmon and chervil both.

Aussie Masterchef was definitely more exciting, but think about it, it's easier launching such a show in Aus than in India.
The thing about celebrity chefs...yes, even I would like the celebrity chef challenges...but I think the calibre of the contestants would definitely improve for season 2...only because I doubt many serious amateur chefs tried out this time.
Now, with the meat thing...even though I would love to see meat dishes on the show...I disagree with the comment that a "masterchef should know how to cook meat". A masterchef is one who can make something awesome from scraps.
Now, if an individual is a non-vegetarian due to religious beliefs, they don't have a right for the title of Masterchef?
LoL the truckies did have facial hair! Plus, they were to come on TV, I'm sure they groomed themselves before their appearance.
Lastly, about Akshay...putting aside any bias...they need Akshay to pull the audience in and...you don't need to be a chef to, in your words, "appreciate caviar and sparkling wine".

Akshay brings in the glamour effect and he surely has some prior cooking experience. he has been displaying his skills and obviously he mustve polished his skills before coming on the show.
the other 2 r plain judges and their only skill is cooking. they complement him nicely but they dont know much abt trps etc which is required to market a show. the concept is fanstastic and gives so much scope for the common housewife to enter national television and gain recognition. the housewife cooks and cleans but her work isnt valued enough. im sure after this show the views abt her might slightly change.
all in all its a good show and hasnt got the recognition that it shdve.
