Does becoming famous mean that you loose all your self respect?

Whatever our fav Actors/Actresses may say, the truth is that they are working in Bollywood because they want to be famous, they want to be recognised. If it was just about acting, then they may as well have just gone down the theatre route.

The stars of today not only perform in films, but also do shows, dance at weddings, attend various events, promote washing powder to electronics to cosmetics. The list is endless!

Then there is the issue of privacy, inviting the media and the whole world to know about your life, from what you wear, what you eat, to who you date!

This glamourous world is very far from the life of the aam junta, and to some extent alot of antics that go on behind close doors, and even on screen, the clothes etc alot of people would not present themselves in public in that way.

So my question is, does becoming famous mean that you loose all your self respect?

I don't think they are working in the industry to become famous. They are in the industry because of their talent, dedication, & passion for what they love. Its not about being famous at all. A lot of these bigger personalities today did start on the small screen before making their way up to movies. They went through struggles and overcame a lot of obstacles before they finally got their recognition in the industry. No one made it to the top that easily. It came with a lot of sincerity and hard work.

About the media most of them aren't inviting the media. Rather the media invites themselves. And the poor stars can't really do much about it. Other times they do invite the media but that's not because they want to earn recognition or fame. Its because they want to connect with their fans worldwide & that's only a small way that they can connect with them since they can't go around the world meeting every fan. No one has to tell the media anything if they are private people. Its the media who tends to exaggerate every little detail they find out. And then the poor stars have to clear all rumors. Its the star's choice whether they want to be personal or share their life with the exaggerating media. But again that's not because they want to gain popularity (at least in most cases)!

No becoming famous does not make you lose self respect (unless you chose to go down the wrong path). Stardom sometimes gets to these famous people and after that everything usually goes downhill. You have to present yourself in a mature way once you get famous. You have to carry yourself well. You become famous because of your dedication, talent, passion, and commitment to what you love. Your only intention should be to showcase your talent in the best possible way ever. You shouldn't think about becoming famous. You shouldn't chase stardom...stardom should find you! :)

It depends on what self-respect means to each person. The key word being self not what society's morals heaped upon you. If you can commit immoral actions and still be able to sleep at night and go about your way the next day, then who am I to judge? I wouldn't condone sleeping my way through the top, or being a sycophant to get my way; but that probably has more to do with my own personality than what societal morals tries to feed me. I would be able to be a sycophant, lose all dignity, sleep around to get what I wanted if my personality had the natural inclination towards those things.

What I do have a problem with when it comes to bollywood stars is not what they do but what they can't face. Its the superficiality and farce of it all that is really annoying. If they can commit "immoral" actions then they should be able to face it when the backlash comes. They do what is considered immoral things and yet act all goody two shoes in interviews. This is how it usually goes " oh no I've never had a boyfriend, I have never even smoked a cigarrette, forget drugs, I am a virgin. I am blessed to be surrounded by such honest people. I consider myself single until married. I believe in fairytale romances. I eat a lot of junk food, don't exercise yet I'm a twig. I don't believe in live-in relationships yet I have no problem going around screaming on top of my voice about my relationships. I struggled a lot, my hard work has brought me to this position, I don't belong to the industry, I am an outsider so I had to work extra hard. I have never cheated on my wife, I am a good husband. I am not gay, its not my fault if everyone thinks I am. All my designs are original, I don't copy from others....they're just jealous. I have not broken up with my bf, I will sue you for false news".....seriously....doesn't it get old????? What a load of bull crap!
