Whoever said small screen's favourite couple Aamir Ali and Sanjeeda Sheikh have drifted apart or split, need to take a look at the much-in-love duo to know that the rumours are all smoke and no fire. In town for a stage performance, the couple matched step-to-step, word-to-word.
With no dailies to shoot for at the moment, Aamir and Sanjeeda are busy performing all over the country and a few international venues as well. "There is always time to do everything," says Aamir. "We have been performing all over the world and the response has been fabulous. Foreigners simply love our shows. Bollywood is extremely popular overseas and these shows just prove that point again," he says. Sanjeeda too, echoes his sentiment. "I love stage shows. The last time we performed, I noticed a few foreigners following Aamir's every move," she says.
Until recently, it was Sanjeeda who was considered to be the better dancer amongst the two. But ever since he took part and won "Nach Baliye 2" Aamir has changed and improved his moves. "Aamir has become a confident dancer. Though before every stage show he gets the jitters, he gives a stunning performance each time," confirms Sanjeeda, adding, "Nervousness is good or else a performer might get slack on stage."
Fresh from his cameo in "I Hate Luv Storys" Aamir is looking at more film work. "While working in "IHLS" I realized that it's important to work for a big production house. The way they market their films and put it out there, is simply phenomenal. I'm looking at working with more big banners in future. Small productions are fine too as long as my role is substantial. "
And what about TV? Has he bid adieu to the small screen? "Not at all. This year is choc-ablock with stage shows and I really have no time for dailies. May be towards the beginning of next year I'll start something, though I haven't finalized anything yet," says the actor. Another reason for Aamir not doing TV today is the lack of urban and contemporary stories. "Most shows today have a rural setting. I don't see myself playing a rural character. I won't suit that. Yes, I can play a small town guy, but not a complete villager." But his lady-love has a different take on this one. "I would absolutely love to do a show like "Balika Vadhu" ' wearing those elaborate outfits, jewellery etc. I'm comfortable with the ghungat brigade as long as I'm not playing anyone's mom," she points out.
Now to the question they get asked the most, clichd as it may sound. When is the couple tying the knot? "Tomorrow!" say Sanjeeda breaking into peals of laughter. "You know this is the best way for us to answer this question. But seriously, I believe that marriage is something that happens. One can't plan anything. As long as we are happy with each another, there's no reason to rush into marriage."
