Forever – Part 7
Geet changed into her night wear and stood next to the window looking at the stars twinkling at the sky. Her cheeks had a line marked with wet tears as she went on complaining to babaji for taking away all her happiness from her. Knowing that there was no one to help her, other than herself she wiped off her eyes and headed towards the bed as she had to wake up early in the morning to go for work. She laid her head on the soft pillow but felt something hard under her head. Afraid, that it could be anything she covered her mouth before she lifted the pillow, but widened her eyes as she saw a folded envelope there. She took it and read what was written on it 'I have never wanted your money, but just wanted to know whether you would live up to your words'. She opened the envelope and found the money she paid to Maan as rent was in it. Not knowing his intention this time, she kept it on the dressing table and lay back on the bed trying to get some sleep.
Maan was working on the case he has to complete during the week, wanting to make his statements perfect and unchallengeable. It was around 2.a.m. at night, he heard some noise coming from the bedroom. Thinking that Geet might be doing something, he did not want to check it, but it kept on bothering him for a long time. With a sigh, he went into the bedroom and saw her weeping hysterically in her sleep. He shook his head thinking that what he was about to face at the moment because of her. He moved closer to the bed, trying to hear the words she murmured clearer, but he could not catch the words. He bent down at her, putting his hand out at her but hesitated touching her as he did not want her to think anything bad about him. But within the very next moment he changed his mind thinking that he would not care about what she would say later, but it was his responsibility to help her right at that moment. Knowing that she was a young girl, who was simple and beautiful and being a man he should control his inner most feelings for whatever comes along their way, he touched her shoulder to wake her up. Her reaction was not like what he had imagined, she did not dare to turn or respond to his words. He sat on the bed and shook her by holding her shoulders but still she did not open her eyes, instead she fell on to him as she was half conscious.
Her body was shaking, he did not know whether it was due to cold or terror so he laid her back on the pillow and covered her with the blanket. He then noticed that the windows were left open, and there he went to close them. Turning off the fan he sat back on the bed and checked her temperature with the back of his palms. She was normal, but she kept on weeping in her state of semi-consciousness. He lowered his ears to her and listened very carefully to catch her words and he succeeded this time. She was crying due to terror begging him not to leave her ever. Maan frowned in confusion but answered her 'I am here with you, please stop crying'. He too never knew how he managed to say those words to her, but did not care about it anymore as he wanted to calm her down. He touched her forehead and kept the strands of hair aside to look at her and it made his ironic heart to melt like wax. He cupped her face as though there was something hidden within her face that drew him closer to her and whispered into her ears 'Geet, I'm here with you please don't cry'. Geet too heard the words and held Maan's hands and rolled onto the other side. Maan did not know what to do as his hands were trapped, but tried to stay silent until she fall asleep. Hoping that she would go back to sleep soon, he waited there but he too ended upon sleeping there.
It was the sound of Geet's alarm clock that woke Maan up at dawn and found him sleeping next to Geet on the bed. He jumped out of the bed at the very moment he knew where he was and this made Geet too to wake up from her sleep. She widened her mouth and glanced at Maan who was in his jeans with a messy hair. A tear drop rolled over her cheeks as various thoughts haunted her mind. Maan took a step towards her but she stepped back confusing him and making him angrier. 'Hey babaji, what had happened? How am I going to live like this?' knowing that she was already married to another man, she became scared. 'Listen to me Geet, nothing like that had happened and don't worry, you had a bad dream last night and I came here' he tried to make her understand what exactly had happened last night. 'See, you don't even feel sorry for what had happened' Geet made a face at him as she spoke. Maan pointed a finger at her and said 'I will never say sorry, because I haven't done anything for which I should feel sorry' he walked out of the room without giving her another chance to say a single word to him.
The last thing Geet could remember about what had happened on the previous night was her weeping while trying to get some sleeping, thinking about her bitter past and Maan's unusual behavior. In order to avoid the disaster that might come along, she hurried back to the washroom as she has to report to work on time. 'Khurana Group of Law Firms' Geet repeated the name of Maan's office before heading out of the house.
'Excuse me; are you here to file a case?' Sasha touched Geet's shoulder the very next moment after she stepped into the office. Geet shook her head and said 'no, actually I have got a job here and today is my first day' she tried to walk in passing Sasha. 'Are you saying that MK has hired you as his secretary?' Sasha cleared her doubt about the post of Maan's secretary. 'MK? Who is MK?' Geet widened her eyes as she heard the name for the very first time. 'Yes, MK. Maan Singh Khurana, look miss, you better gets to know the name of your boss before starting to work for him' Sasha mocked at Geet. 'Sasha hand the files of the recent cases to Miss Geet, and Geet you need to bring those to my cabin now' Maan said while coming into the office and he cut off Sasha and Geet's first encounter.
