Muskan's 10th bday… keerti aunty told armaan to help her serve the kids. He was after all the "big bro", recently turned 13. Off late his voice had begun to crack. "ridzi, help me!!!" it wasn't a request but well, what could I expect. I was his kid sister's best friend… and that literally spelt WAR. Our parents have been best of friends since their college days. The three of us almost grew up together… festivals, picnics, sometimes vacations… we were in the same school, muski and I in the same class… "nice bracelet," he called out on the way. And I looked at my wrist adorned by the silver chain he gave me friendships day this year.
5 years later, Christmas… "how come you're alone?" he came and sat beside me. Armaan was no more a kid. He had a slight stubble and his baritone was warm and comforting, or so I thought. "headache," I told him with a wry smile. "exams just got over day before. Hadn't slept properly for weeks before that. And then I was helping mamma with all the party preparations since yesterday. Just exhausted, I guess." He smiled and ruffled my hair, and then grinning, "I thought you might be upset cuz im leaving next year… you know going to Mumbai and all… new college… new life… new friends…." Out of the corner of my eyes, I looked at him. He was kidding right?? How could he probably know what I was thinking? Don't be stupid ridzi, I chided myself. Don't forget, you're just his kid sister's best friend. He's older now. Get a life!!
2 months later…. I grinned stupidly at my laptop screen. Only 48 hours since I hugged her at the airport and an email already!!! Grow up, I kicked myself mentally. She probably just wants to know how you are. I mean you guys have been friends for long. She just cares. But that sure sounded nice… SHE CARED!!! I was about to click reply, but on an instinct I picked up my cell and dialed her number. Its not like I was dying to talk to her, you know… just courtesy… or maybe I cared… just a little… whatever, it doesn't matter, its just ridzi!!!! I don't have to think before talking to her!

We are going going going!!!!! Muki and I are going to college. Finally!!! Mamma n daddy weren't too keen on Mumbai, since its so far away. And it's a big city and all. But I insisted, and so did muski, but I think the trigger factor was armaan. He convinced both his parents and mine that he'd take care of the two of us. Take care, yeah right!!! But hey, it worked on them! We are going to be living in some girls hostel. AND I got admission in LSI (Law School of India). That was the toughest part, but I managed!!! Muski's told aunty and uncle that she will THINK of her further education. But I know for a fact that education is the last thing on her mind right now. For her, Mumbai is all about glam glitz and a footing to an awesome career in modeling. Armaan knows, cause I told him, and the media pro is far from being pleased. But no one. Not even her own brother can convince muski otherwise. Sometimes I wonder how I get along wid muski when we are polar opposite. Armaan says its cause we are both so stubborn and focused on whatever we want. Well well well….
