Thank you for bringing this topic up.
It is appalling to me how many young (and not so young) Indian women don't even understand what rape is. I have read statements all over these forums with misconceptions such as:
-If a man and woman are married, the man has "rights" over her and can do as he wishes with her
-If a woman is in love with a man and he rapes her, she is "getting what she wanted"
-Rapists and molesters can change
This is NOT what we should be teaching women! If a woman says no, IT IS RAPE. Period. Rape is an act of power. Men who rape are trying to overpower women. Being in love or being marred has nothing to do with it.
Things like this make me glad I was born and raised in the US. While Americans certainly have their own problems in how they portray women (like making them overly sexualized), the kind of codswallop shown on Indian tv would NEVER be tolerated on television here.
