Don't you have a problem with the way women are portrayed in these dramas? It encourages the mindset that "good women" are those that sacrifice themselves for the sake of their in-laws/husband and that only after bearing through torture patiently does a woman succeed?

A few examples:

When Abha got married and moved in, her father in law hated her and mistreated her. As a human being, she has a right to respect. Karan tried to leave and what did she do? Stop him. She played the "perfect bahu" role and swore to "win" his love one day. Basically perfect bahu is propegated to be a woman who sacrifices herself at the hands of her inlaws.

Second, Saniya. Why on earth would anyone, even if they are pregnant, marry a man they KNOW is crazy? And why would her friends allow her to do it? It is shown that as a woman, again, she has to sacrifice herself and first pass through difficulty before gaining happiness.

Does nobody wonder why men aren't shown like that? Why don't the men in dramas have to "sacrifice" themselves the same way? Why is sanskar still acceptable to saniyas fam after they know he is CRAZY but saniya wouldn't be acceptable because she is pregnant?

The place of women in India is pretty bad. And dramas are only making it stick around for longer. So many dramas show the man slapping the woman---why aren't people outraged that tv is portraying men hitting women with no consequence. Why aren't these women shown standing up for themselves? How come they don't show any "good wife" as ever being angry w her husband??

So question for very little response.

I am a Western woman and I know what a woman say a real woman. I'd never like Abha, or even Saniya.

It tries to show the woman is weak and lack of intelligence and that's across the series.
PR: Archana who spends her time crying.🥱
KB: Simi who loves to take all the misfortunes of others as punishment for his supposedly bad luck.🥱

And so on.

why is it good to be sacrificed? why arent men sacrificed? women in every society make SOME sacrifices, but it is not to the point that a woman cannot be happy until she FIRST suffers through HARSH things.

take pavitra rishta for example. the girl marries her RAPIST!! and after that she gets raped repeatedly and abused and insulted, but she "patiently" takes it and is good to him/her saas until her good changes him. this is the case in all dramas. they are trying to tell women that even if a man abuses you, you have ot take it and one day hell change

I NEVER say clearly what I would do what women like Abha, Archana, Vandita or others have done.

I have a self esteem and a bad temper Moreover, I am French and I was always taught that a woman has rights and we respect that.

I do believe unconditional love has the power of changing the most evil person in to a good one, but this theory should apply to man and woman equally.

you are young and naive then. unconditional love only enables people. if this were the case we wouldnt need to discipline our children--under ur argument, as long as we love them unconditionally they will change all their bad habits. but no, at times we need to show anger and they think we dont love them because of that anger...and that is what discipline is.

if u unconditionally love someone, it means no matter what they do you will always be there. what human in the world will change if he has no reason to? if somebody has nothing to lose, why would they bother changing? if i know i can hit you every day and you will never leave me, why will i ever stop hitting you? you are being too idealistic and naive in thinking that people change from love alone.

Unfortunate but true.... In their heart of hearts - I think every man wants to have a wife like the characters shown on these serials... Abha, Archana, Simi... all "chup-chap" sacrificing women.. who make food for them. takes care of their every little need, looks good and above all - never utters a word against them.. whether they are right or wrong..

It doesn't matter how capable you are - but they will never admit that women are smarter than men and can outdo them!

This only sells.... look @ the serials who are getting TRPs?? Good serials like Antara ... no body wanted to watch them.

Alas! Its still a man's world...

Kudos to all the women in this world! You all are just simply awesome. Let's make this world a better place to live!!

100% agree w/ ur post. the portrayal of women in these shows is awful. the writers give them the lead role, only to use them as sacrificial lambs... and every show is like that. having sania marry the lunatic sanskar b/c she's preggers is ridiculous!!! it's disgusting too. and the worst is in PR, having vandita marry the man who attempted to rape her. terrible, terrible msg...
sadly, i don't thinks these shows are ever going to change, but here's to trying!
