Bollywood's current generation features a bunch of stars ironically sporting clipped accents and mouthing Americanese better than Hindi.
There are also a few others who just want to experiment with edgy scripts. Here's a look at some actors in upcoming English films.
Saif Ali Khan
Being Cyrus
Chhote nawab has always been pretty firang. Now that he's a National Award-winning desi actor, the time has never been more ripe for a crossover act.
John Abraham
Water
Even though Deepa Mehta occasionally loses the plot and ends up making a Bollywood/Hollywood, the fact is being part of the woman's films is a great way for an actor to get noticed -- and earn some critical applause.
Aishwarya Rai
Mistress Of Spices
She's signing up foreign films all over the place, but her Indian track record at the box office remains dismal as ever.
The worrisome part of this adaptation remains Ash's atrocious English accent, something we were last subjected to in Bride & Prejudice. Hopefully, Gurinder Chadha's husband Paul Mayeda Berges, who directs the film, will get things dubbed.
Salman Khan
Marigold
Salman is a bit weird on this count. He's acted in Hindi films forever, yet when without a clapping board, his accent is indecipherably American-ish. Let's see if this romantic comedy features a puzzled heroine.
Sushmita Sen
Karma, Confessions & Holy ....
Ah, this one seems an inspired choice. Sush can carry off an English role with ease, and throw in an aria or two for good measure. Boyfriend Randeep Hooda and Naomi Campbell also star in this quirky film by Drena De Niro, Robert's daughter.
