Be it the Domestic Violence Act passed by the government last year or the recent ruling of the Rajasthan High court that stated that a wife could live with her paramour ' men seem to have been shortchanged by the entire judicial process.
Can't a woman live-in partner walk away? Does the law protect men? Does the Domestic Violence law protect men against women?
The Indian laws have always favoured women.Leave laws even a our personal behaviour has been more sympathetic toward a women who has been physically abused than a man who comes with his plea.I agree that before, these kind of incidents were more common with women. But this isn't the case now, there are men now who are abused, beaten up.So where are these men supposed to go?Will the Indian judiciary be as strict in this case as it is women.
Women have demanded for equality in all field, but why don't they ask for equality in this sector? Why are they okay with discrimination over here? I being a woman ask Why?

My views remain pretty much the same from the days of 'Abuse of Anti Dowry Laws of India' debate.

Yeah, sort of. 😊

All the laws you mentioned justify the topic enough. Besides, not just Indian laws are biased against men, women too are the same. Or I should say a woman takes due advantage of being a woman. 😆

I was ridiculed when in the metro train, I heard a woman tell a tired man, "Bhai sahab hato, mujhe baithna hai." 🤢 She had both the audacity and authority to say so provided, men ought offer their seats to women and senior citizens in the train.

Women demand equality, and true . . . they themselves take advantage of it. Thus, both men and women can never be treated equally. Sometimes, it's the man who takes an advantage and sometimes, it's a woman who does the same.

Yes absolutely.....all the laws favor the women/minority/weaker party.......l

These women groups or feminists whatever u want to call them will shout and yell for equal rights for women...and when it comes to enforcing a law they will immediately play the victim card...saying that a woman is weaker and hence is never guilty...🤢

The dowry law has been abused by the well educated women who use the law to threaten their husbands and in-laws if anyone goes against them.....so much so....that I have heard that people have committed suicides......there was also a warning posted on the US Embassy sometime back warning the US citizens about going to India to get married and then being harassed because of this law ...
Almost all the laws are abused in India by the rich and powerful but the anti dowry law takes the cake when it comes to abusing the law...

In my opinion the law is not biased - it is the enforcement of a law that is biased.

A law is neutral. Domestic abuse, rape, sexual harassment - they tend to favor women simply because of societal and criminal investigative mind frame that women are the weaker sex. Do men get beaten by wife/family? Yes. Do they get sexually harassed or even raped? Yes. But how many male officers writing an FIR will even take the report of a man claiming to be victim seriously?

The anti-dowry law, I agree is a law specifically created to protect women. Dowry was a serious issue in India. For many Indian women it is still a harsh reality. However, an even bitter truth is that many well to do women abuse it and innocent families pay a heavy price.

Even a law like dowry law is meant to be taken in neutrality though. Innocent until proven guilty is the norm and the burden of proof lies on the prosecution. A man charged of a crime against a woman is innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable belief in a court of law. A woman accusing a man ought to have substantial evidence to prove beyond reasonable doubt that the accused is indeed guilty.

What we seriously need is law enforcement that is fair and unbiased. Lodges every report without prejudgment, investigates without preconceived notions and treats all parties as innocent until proven guilty. We need new and stringent laws against defamation and slander that heavily impose criminal penalties and prison sentences on woman caught committing perjury or taking advantage of any law. The only law that lacks certain aspects of neutrality is the dowry law and needs to be amended.

There are many women who do suffer abuse, harassment and even torture. It is really unfortunate that we have come to a point where their voices go unheard, they are not protected while others take advantage of a law. I hate to see entire laws intended to be neutral bunked due to some criminal women.

As for reservation - just as I am against discrimination based on gender, age, sexual orientation, caste, income, religion, marital status, nationality, handicap etc I am strongly against reservation on any of these aspects. Admissions, jobs, political seats should only go to the best and deserving candidate.

The only reservation I find acceptable is seats for handicapped people or pregnant women or people carrying young infants on public transport.

I think that we need another law to protect man from the anti-dowry law......What I hate about this law is that a written complaint from the woman would land the whole family in jail........even if there is not a shred of evidence against the in laws.....and in some some cases where the husband is found not guilty.....the woman goes stock free....for filing false charges.....

These feminists don't realise that if their daughter-in-law or sister-in-law goes astray...they might end up in jail too....

I feel people should stop referring to women who support discrimination and abuse of laws as feminists.

Feminism is about equal treatment of women, not special treatment of women and definitely not about mistreatment of men. Such people have ruined the name of feminism and several men and women in the past who actually did honest good work to stop discrimination without crossing the lines. In respect for the original spirit of the movement and the people involved we ought to restore the meaning and spirit of what the word should stand for.

BI, this is not directed at you specifically. Its in general. The word feminist today is associated with demanding, man hating, dykes, in your face obnoxious types. Such people don't deserve to be called feminists, they are as discriminatory as racists, casteists etc. It saddens me on the bad name they have given to what feminism is about.

I'm not sure I completely understand this act. I'm not aware of the case details that led to its passing, the stipulations and what it means. Could you shed light on that please with some more detailed information or links to it?
