Thank you everybody for ready this post, I know that it is not pleasant to think about abuse in any intense manner, but it is occasionally necessary. Thanks everybody who has like the post and agreed with it. Thank you also to those who have tried to counter it reasonably.

I just have this to add in reply to the points made by Binny and Gaurimisha:

@ Binny:

Pratigya is a daily soap; it works under a million narrative, logistical and market-driven constraints. When they offered us a serial based on "reality" (which is a word that is bandied about on this forum as if there is a rulebook on what constitutes reality!) it meant that the issues shown in this serial and the larger context and situations will have their base in real life. Not that each and every character will act and behave as per some pre-established rules of conduct for 'Educated persons' and 'uneducated persons'.

When they show the track of incest between BIL and his young SIL it is to be viewed in the larger context of all those young girls who are sent to look after their pregnant sisters' households, who suffer in silence for fear of rocking their sisters' lives and getting a bad name. This JiJa –saali parampara which was mentioned is not some small insignificant detail but a very wide spread form of abuse that has been perpetuated in the male-dominated societies around the Cow-belt.There is no point in saying Aarushi should have run, spoken sooner, walked out at 5.30 on day 2 instead of getting annoyed at 7.30 on day 3. We are viewers, we are not writing the script, the creatives are! They are using the Aarushi incident to portray a larger reality. When thousand of girls get caught in this trap all the time are we going to go to each one of them and tell them how and when to escape? Or are we going to give them the general idea that they need not suffer in silence? Aquamarine also made the excellent point that going to your sister's house SHOULD NOT be an act of torture for a young girl. It is the SYSTEM that has to be changed and not the girl's skills of hiding, skulking and avoiding contact with the outer world.

++++++++++++++++

Gaurimisha, make a point that there are several educated, intelligent ways of dealing with abusers which does not involve verbal or physical protest. I am genuinely interested to know what these are.

From what history has taught us, we know that the strongest people are never the most physically powerful ones. We know that real power is a mental game, a faade, a question of what you believe of what you project. Every dictator in the world be it Napoleon or Hitler, or a household dictator like SS rule only due to the power the project and their ability to sustain the fear of their subjects, and not really due to any true physical power. Every dictator's fundamental fear is of MUTINY. Because the minute somebody exposes that fact that they are not invincible, then the dam is broken for ever!

Like Soap Bubble, rightly pointed out, SS does not want to kill Prats only because he hates her, but because she is a very real threat to the system of fear that he has established. The minute someone like Kesar realizes that a voice can be raised his last barricade will be breached. That is the reason he was so keen in yesterday's episode to hush the matter of who called Aarushi, because he was very afraid that Kesar would speak up. If she did then it would seriously undermine his standing. Kesar is his poster girl to portray his dominance, he cannot afford to lose her at any cost!

DyeHArd-

Am sure that u have heard of david and the goliath - david is considered to be a god sent Prophet -
he still strategized to fight goliath-not give bhashans
Wat is Pratigya trying to prov with bhashans? If nobody is hearing it,watz the point?I wonder how u wud feel if nobody clicked the like button on ur post or commented - PRatigya's situation is so-her bhashans r for ignoring, not for the ignorant - coz she gotto talk in their language to be heard
.She wants to prove a point, then stop showing bravado, wat she does is not heroics, its histrionics.
And then she puts her tail between her legs for KRishna to save her.puleeees.
Dum hai tho dimaag lagaao
Wars cannot be won by beating chests, only the initial battle of nerves can be won with the surprise element, but that euphoria is not enuf to win the war with junglee janwars like Angad and Shakti-
that is all Aarushi did.It was actually nauseating that she was putting up with it all for so long.
Nobody here is saying she asked for it - they r only saying that she dug her grave and lay in it now.
There are times when to lay low and when to fight, and how to fight. She had many many easier options and she did the one that only satisfied her ego, using the chappal an all
If the sisters want to flex muscles, then go build those muscles first. No point just waving fists.
Strengthen ur position first, and then hit the iron when hot. When you have to leave the battle field, bcoz the battle is going against you, disperse and regroup latter to strategize and win the war.The sisters cud have done umpteen smart schemes, even village women who go thru worse, do better. There are many good movies I can suggest you to watch, some of them r real life stories, unnerving. And none were stupid enuf to go around throwing chappals.
KoolDI's post DOES NOT I REPEAT DOES NOT AND WILL NEVER say that women shud give up fighting for her rights-If u cannot read between the lines, please read at least the actual lines themselves for the context. It is clear.
KoolDi is saying -gals be smart, use your brains-we do not have the brawn, but we have brains.Use it to protect urself.Else the price to pay is heavy and the loss irredeemable.
You are saying it is enuf to have an intention, but KoolDi is saying it is not just enuf to have an intention-it is imperative to back it up with solid intelligent action-Pratigya lacks in her deeds, the posts r to point the flaws in those deeds.
arey, why r we even watching these serials then,we r not c grade movie goers to enjoy women being raped-let us be v clear that character bashing is one thing, but to bash a live member who is bringing up a debate on strategy is another.Looks like there is a lot of respect here for fictious characters, but not to live ones.Mere intentions of fictious characters r lauded and that of members who r giving experienced input on how to activate that intention r not?MAybe it wud be best to start posts with that one,eh😉and be assured, ppl on this forum r decent enuf to want good for women

Hahaha I would never ask a woman to lie low and take shit from others

All i was saying is deal diplomatically...rather than getting ready for war..
Cut the the crap out at the beginning....the very first signal...
Do not wait...The more you wait, the more power you give to your abuser.
What Arushi did was totally wrong...she dig her own grave..

I guess thats what the serial wants to teach...
Do not hide...do not wait...unfortunately Arushi couldn't learn from her sisters mistakes..
Dont behave emotionally ...think and act...do not slap a goon and invite more trouble...
Deal with brains and not with emotions....

I don't think Prathigya symbolizes woman protagonist..
She is nothing with out Krishna...
Few good things about Prathigya is she doesnt take crap from her inlaws...she talks back,...which is really good...unlike other serials...We are always thought to just lie low and take it in due respect.(totally wrong)..
I really felt that the serial should have started when i got married 2 yrs ago...hahahah

Second thing i like is she gives calot of importance to her Maika...we are always told once married Sasural is your fate ...you just take their orders blindly like Shaktis wife. I like how Prathigy gives importance to her maika

other than that i don't think Prathigya is any good...
She is educated ..what she does is gives bhashans...to a bunch of uneducated people. If they wanted to show her as woman empowerment..she should have demanded from day one that she is entitled to work or at-least do social work..make use of her education...That should have been the deal before getting married to Krishna

They show SS is more sensible than Mr.Professor...because he mends his ways according to situation...he doesn't act like a murakh..like the professor..
The serials how Saxenas family as educated fools...like Prathigya marrying Krishna for revenge...heheheheh very funny.. more later gtg

Hi everyone, this is a great topic.... I read both sides of the arguments and there are valid points on either side.....
one side says that one should not prod sleeping snakes like shakti u r bound to get bitten.....
the other side says one should not give in to bullies as this will only encourage them more....
One point everyone seems to have missed.....SPEAK UP, SPEAK LOUD at the very beginning..
why do these sisters wait till the last minute till the water is risen upto their noses and they are
in danger of drowning....why cannot they take evasive action / complain out loud, at the first sign of trouble...
that should be the actual message that should be going out..... don't wait till the last moment when u have no options left.....

Thanks for the post Uma.
But the whole problem is that these are not sleeping snakes, they are very much alive and active and don't wait for provocation to strike. It is grossly unfair to suggest that something that a woman does is the trigger for male aggression and violence.
Like Aquamarine has said before, no sensible woman ever instigates a confrontation with a Gunda or rapist. But some situations are unavoidable, retreat is not possible and in those situations defiance is the only option.

No, Uma I odn't think that point has been missed. In fact that IS the point being made. But you see that Aarushi or Pratigya are character's who will behave as per their situations, limitations and fears. It is how ordinary people behave in life. If all girls who face such tortures from their BIL ran off at the first lecherous smile, we would not have had so many cases of incestuous rape in this country.
They keep quite for fear of creating a scene, of not knowing if they have a right or if they are overreacting and the "paramparas" mentioned. If they showed Aarushi as someone who is reacting with supreme logic, confidence, guile, strength and also with psychic powers ie if they showed her never coming to this house because she already knew what a jerk Shakti was and so never wanted to get into his radius, how on earth are the poor creatives ever going to bring up the issue in the first place?? She has to behave like an ordinary person who exhibits a little out of the ordinary courage.
Instead of expending our energies in berating her for her lack of fore-vision and initial guts and her sister for speaking to the unconvertable, how about diverting a little of this rage to the real evil that is being portrayed?
