I like to see just once Shaitan Singh or one of his sons get a good hard bite on their wrists when they try to hit their wives. Even better, I want them get bit more than once so then eventually, they will not dare to mishandle their wives and it will make alot of men who otherwise mistreat their wives in real life fear to misbehave with their wives or any woman for that matter.

Most rapists and abusers are bullies. The whole world knows that bullies are cowards. The idea is not to make him understand his mistakes, but to stop him in his tracks and let him know in unambiguous ways that you will not tolerate humiliation. What other language but the physical does somebody like Shakti understand?
Moreover can you imagine a situation if Aarushi had kept quite after facing such a great affront? Do you think it is easy to live with yourself after you have been violated like that, if you did not at least lash back in defence and anger? Do you think Aarushi could have gone back and hugged her family like that if she felt that she did not even put up a fight?
In rape and abuse, it is not the Physical act that is the greatest part of the torture, it is the feeling of helplessness and lack of power, the guilt on feels when one has not had the courage to fight back that scars a human being. Being absued is about becoming a 'victim' feeling like a 'victim' and living with the shadow of the feeling of helplessness, and it is up to the woman to choose not to be one.

I completely agree with you the worst feeling is one of regret at not being able to protect yourself or reacting when necessary. I am not against Arushi's reaction at that time it was not only appropriate but extremely necessary to show Shakti his place. But, according to me the problem was the fact that she kept quiet a women should not be afraid to speak up as soon as an injustice is done to her and she would not have needed to face so much if she had chosen to speak up at the correct time in other words before Shakti actions became even more offensive. Yes she was worried about peace of the house and her sisters well being but that is not more then her life. It is important for women to speak up and fight against injustice, unfortunately Arushi waited for too long and things got out of hand.

@ DyeHard: WOW!!! Hi DyeHard! Thank u sooo much for this topic which made me want to comment after such a long time!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I agree with u completely and I loved ur very first para, coz, thats how I've been feeling, and was unable to comment at all in this forum for a while now!!!😆
@ Binny: Hi Binny! I agree with u somewhat and think that the CVs could have made dealing with such situations more logical or realistic but then, it would have become a documentary and not a love story! I think if the situations and solutions were to be made more realistic, then, it would need a LOT more focus JUST on the social issues instead of KriYa love-story! I dunno... Maybe the CVs could've done a better job...😕😆
I dont think Dye is against women asking for help... BUT first, she should be strong enough to stand up for herself by her own! Coz, help might not be available all the time!
Ofcourse it wont have ny effect on Shakti - WE, who watched him since the beginning and know of his disgusting ways are sure about it BUT it was a SHOCK for Aarushi to be harassed by her B-I-L! She needed time to overcome that shock and confusion about wat to do in such a situation like ny of us, who never went through or expected such a thing would! No one expects their B-I-L to be a monster... So, after Pratigya's speech to her, she gets the courage to stand up and protect herself...
Aarushi WAS thinking of her situation when she kept quiet about Shakti's harasments and the consequences of letting everyone know about it, until it became untolerable and she snapped! Lets say she knows the consequences of slapping Shakti would be scary, so whats her next step then? Speak to Pratigya about it and let Pratigya fight for her, as if Pratigya dint have enough fight on her own plates!!! And if Pratigya stands up for Aarushi against Shakti, do u think Shakti would let Aarushi go or leave Pratigya alone, without ny revenge??? No matter how one stands up against such animals, they ARE gonna face difficulties but that doesnt mean one should stop/ignore/avoid facing their problems to be safe from difficult situations!!!
C'mon Binny! Dont be a pessimist... If there are plenty of Angads and no Krishna, then sensible women would have stopped loving ny man!!! Maybe I'm being an optimist, but I believe there must be some men who r like or better than Krishna!!!
Lolzz... Its hard to accept COZ its fiction and in reality, sometimes women get unlucky to be stuck by her stalker in a marriage and sometimes she get lucky if the stalker is jailed! In reality, a woman would rather commit suicide than marry her stalker and later fall in love with him... it is hard to accept such fiction when reality is soo harsh!!!
The burning of DIL - urs is the second one that I'm reading which says Pratigya got lucky! Yeah she did... May be its different POV but in that track, my focus was on Komal and not on Pratigya coz for me, that track was not about how Pratigya got lucky but it was about Komal's speech to Amma and Shakti - how people should think twice b4 burning their DIL coz they too have daughters who r someone's DIL and who might unluckily face a similar terrible situation!!!
Binny, women in Aarushi and Pratigya's society are USED to keeping quiet about such things!!! So, it will take SOME time to overcome that USED-to-keeping-quiet bad habbit,😆! Plus, like I said b4, I think its very normal for Aarushi to be scared and confused after being harassed by her B-I-L! WE as viewers were expecting Shakti to do something nasty but I'm sure no girl expects to go visit her sister and find a B-I-L who molests her!!!
Agreed that she should have stood up for herself b4 but I think she needed that encouragement from Pratigya to do so!!! I feel like it had to come to Aarushi slapping Shakti BCOZ Shakti went overboard with his harassments, even after Aarushi's warnings! SO, its not becoz Aarushi dint speak up in time that the situation got out of control but bcoz Shakti dint stop with his molestings even after Aarushi's warnings!
Pheww! It was nice discussing with u and me got carried away! Thanx for reading!😊

Hi Limits 😊

BUT first, she should be strong enough to stand up for herself by her own! Coz, help might not be available all the time

I agree in fact that was what I stated women should be strong enough to stand up for themselves and never show fear in the face of a crisis but if they know their reaction at a specific time will only bring about the worst consequences and help is not available they should not react with anger but with intelligence it's not weakness to move back when you know your life is in danger. Here I am talking in general not related to the show.

So, after Pratigya's speech to her, she gets the courage to stand up and protect herself.

Limits Shakti was truly disgusting but his intentions were not a complete surprise to Arushi. Though I agree she does not know him well enough to understand he can have such cheap thoughts about his sali. But she has faced his harassment several times before actually she has been tolerating his behavior ever since she first met him. Okay I can understand these incidents can be overlooked though even they were sick because she would eventually go to the safety of her home. But, still his actions were not a complete surprise neither were his intentions she has felt uncomfortable around him before and her shock about the situation was gone the day she asked prats if she could go to the temple with her because she had understood the consequences of staying in the house alone. you know me limits I loved prats speech even Arushi's to shakti it was well deserved though men like him never learn. Truthfully I agree with you we should not be expecting logic from shows though this show has been successful in bringing harsh realities to light its overall goal is entertainment.
No matter how one stands up against such animals, they ARE gonna face difficulties but that doesnt mean one should stop/ignore/avoid facing their problems to be safe from difficult situations!!

No never when did I say she should have run away from her problems😕 according to me this problem should have been dealt with much sooner before things got unbearable for her and she snapped. Yes she was thinking about prats but sometimes an individual is forced to look at two equally important situations and decide which one is more important her life was more important than not causing more problems for prats. Yes Shakti would have reacted that is expected but prats would have sent her sister home and she would have handled Shakti she is not alone she has the support of her husband who may be angry but will never allow anyone to cause her pain a part from himself. I am not saying it's better to run away if the situation requires it like Arushi's it is important to teach the man a good lessor but we mus accept she had other options, before this became a necessity.
C'mon Binny! Dont be a pessimist... If there are plenty of Angads and no Krishna, then sensible women would have stopped loving ny man!!! Maybe I'm being an optimist, but I believe there must be some men who r like or better than Krishna!!!
😆 agreed but not pessimism limits realism I was referring to those thugs, goons etc who harass women amongst them there are plenty of angad's and no Krishna's now even among those women fall in love with there are angad's but there are also men who yes as you said are better then Krishna though I find him completely unrealistic some may get extremely lucky, but I can say there are men who are trustworthy as well as likable.

Yes Komal's speech was amazing in fact I just watched it on TV yesterday everything she said portrayed reality and hopefully was able to show people who follow such customs just how disgusting they truly are, as well as give those who face similar situations the courage to speak up. As for prats escape It was luck because it is a soap they achieved their goal and left this part as it was for entertainment purposes after all prats is the female lead we all knew she would survive no matter how unbelievable it may be.

According to me yes she did not expect for him to be a monster and yes she needed encouragement from prats but even after that she did not tell anyone she threatened Shakti which was fine as well as necessary but expecting a man like that to understand and fear her was a bit too much he would just be more careful the next time. I undestand your POV but according to me if she had spoken up on time Shakti would have been taken care of before things got out of hand and even then she would have been fighting for her self respect.

Overall Limits let's just agree with the fact that this show is meant to bring harsh realities to light and it does so successfully, and by showing women in the show making similar mistakes as any normal women may make they have portrayed the importance of voicing your opinion against any injustice done to you before it get's worse or get's out of hand. And this is a show meant for entertainment we should not expect too much I agree they have to drag things after all.

It is always nice to discuss with you Limits 😛

I totally agree with it...never take bullshit from other but think and react...
Do you think it is easy to live with yourself after you have been violated like that, if you did not at least lash back in defense and anger?
OKay lash back in defense...i agree (provided she did it when he was abusing her)
lash back in anger ....totally disagree ( a fierce lash back from Shakti is awaiting her)

All she got is momentary satisfaction....and more trouble..
You ask me how to deal with Shakti...
First of all he didn't come to her house and abuse her or abuse her on street..
She could have avoided it but just slipping out of haveli...

Momentary satisfaction u say... Didnt u see her crying??? Does people who r satisfied by their lash back cry out of their beautiful momentary satisfaction? She was scared and hurt even after she slapped him!!!
So, dont visit ur sister since there is a molester living in her house? Thats ur solution? Stop going outside coz goons and stalkers are waiting for u... U might be a prisoner in ur own house but thats lot better than slapping a goon and standing up for urself to protect urself and make enemies out of those stalkers!!!
Siblings cant visit each other while the goon gets a free pass to harass nyone who comes in his house! NO WONDER it has become sort of a law to ignore eave-teasing rather than facing it and stopping it!!!

Feeling Victimized and taking revenge is not the right thing...
Grow stronger and avoid situations like that from the beginning .... be more vocal about it..
WHO needs to be strong from the very beginning??? IF Aarushi was NOT harassed by Shakti, she wont have ny reason to be strong or avoid nything!!! It was Shakti's harassments that forced Aarushi to get out of her shell and stand up for herself!!! Avoid situations like that - Aarushi dint INVITE such situations and no girl in their right mind would!!! She just went to visit her sister and one does not need to gear up with all sorts of defense mechanisms to just visit her sister!!! IF the Thakurs are abnormals and Shakti is a disgusting lowlife, instead of expecting Shakti to turn into a human, u expect Aarushi to leave the house to avoid his harassments, as if that would put a stop to Shakti's molesting!!! What would happen if one of Pratigya's girlfriend comes to visit her and Shakti starts with his antics? I know what - Pratigya's friend is also supposed to leave that zoo to save herself... So, when would Shakti ever STOP???

Prathigya's bhashan is like beating drums in front of a deaf person...totally wasted..
they could have put in a way that would make takhurs think...providing examples are whatever
Lolzzz... I understand that the Thakur's suffer from inferiority complex and they would rather hear a dog barking than listen to Pratigya's educated and modern ways, so I totally understand why Pratigya's dialogues would sound as bhashans to them... Well, they r her elders and she could hardly smack their faces and tie them up to show them demos of her lectures...😆, I mean, if they refuse to listen to her educated thoughts, what r the possibilities that they would actually sit around to watch her live demos/examples b4 killing her off??? 😆
To some educated viewers, who already know of these women rights, yup, it can definitely be like beating drums in front of a deaf person... BUT, to some educated and other uneducated people/viewers, Pratigya's bhashans are really encouraging coz like DYE said in her main post, Pratigya's lectures acquaint those who r unaware about their alternative ways to tolerating abuse or injustice!!! So, even if Pratigya's lectures suck for certain viewers, it is very useful and encouraging for those who actually go through such abusive situations!

Thanx for reading!

Don't you mean all rapists and abusers are bullies? It is very true that bullies are cowards. Someone like Sajjan, Krishna or Shakti will misbehave with a woman or a disabled person, but will not dare to lay even a finger on a man or boy alot bigger and stronger than them. Because, they know that man or boy will kill them. So they go and pull that crap on women/girls and people with disabilities.
I think the only way we can make bullies like Sajjan and his two sons realize is if we were to have them locked up for several years and subjected daily to the same physical abuse they mete out on theie wives and make sure the abuse is so severe (but not starve them) that they will never bully anyone again for the rest of their lives.
As for the Indian woman who are repeatedly abused day in and day out constantly by their husbands and in laws, since I came on IF in early 2007, you all may have seen me express my discust on many occasions at the treatment of woman in many sectors of Indian society and how many of the woman just take the abuse and then later on sob and cry infront of the puja mandir and saying things like, "Why me?" or "God, why did you do this to me? along with so many other things. Evertime I would see a man pull his wifes hair, squeeze her neck or twist her arm and the wife not defend herself and just lay down like a baby and cry, I would immediately change the channel.
I would be like, "Oh come on, you stupid woman! Can't you grab his arm and give him a good bite on the wrist when he goes to hit you?" or "If he did that to a Canadian or Sri Lankan woman, he would immediately get charged. If the police/law don't stop him, then the woman will." Many years ago, one guy told me about mind over matter and told me when a man is bullying/harassing a woman, all I need is a fist. And many Canadian and Sri Lankan men are willing to go to jail in the name of protecting a womans honour, even if she was "in the wrong".

Thanks for this post, Dye! 👍🏼- very much needed considering the shockingly regressive things being said on htis forum. And very well said, Aquamarin! 👏

My two cents:
I see the merits of discretion being the better part of valour and certainly no one is advocating confronting goons in every street corner and slapping them.

However, there are situations where running away is not possible without seriously compromising your life - you CAN keep a low profile, but you can't hide forever, you can't skulk, you can't go about life being scared because there are bad people around. Particularly when abuse becomes legitimised by society, when society is deliberately turning the other way - eve teasing, or incestual harassment - you need to speak up before it becomes too difficult.

These are situations where it is difficult for women to speak up. But if more and more women refuse to take this lying down, society changes. Why do the Thakurs hate Pratigya so much? Because they are afraid of her. Because they are afraid that her ideas may be contagious. Amma once complained to Guruma that Kesar was beginning to think like that as well. THAT is why they try soooo hard to muffle her.

But Pratigya is a brave young woman. She tries to keep quiet but when something happens in front of her that her conscience does not allow she CANNOT keep quiet. And frankly I think that is something EACH AND EVERY thinking woman and man on this forum should stand up to applaud her for. Pure sterling COURAGE. ⭐️

Yes, it's a serial. Yes, everything is presented with maximum drama. And you may take issue that Arushi spoke today and not yesterday. But those are details. The message is this: SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT - don't just take it. If sufficient people raise their voices, this can be changed.

It's a positive message and I for one appreciate this serial and its makers 👏👏.
