so i promised to be back with my views abt Rakhi and standing or sitting for it...
I dont think that sitting or standing makes any difference in tying Rakhi......what makes is Bro should be in East and Sis in West....so that when she will do Tika on Bro's forehead it will resemble Bro's Life and Glory will be just like Rising Sun..................

in our home me and my bro both sit me in west and he in East..i do tika and then tie Rakhi.........

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts on Rakhi! We have always done it standing so it looked awkward to watch the sitting tradition!

But as long as the sentiment is shared and the Rakhi gets on the brother's wrist then all is good!

Rimi, In my family we have never done aarti. But then we don't always follow convention. I think if the feelings are sincere then the details are not as important. These days my family is so scattered around the world that if I see one of my brothers on RB then it is a treat. I only have boys and my sister only has girls...we see each other in the summer but not necessarily on RB. We always do rakhi together where the girls tie them on my boys, with tikka, sweets and gifts. For us the festival is about celebrating the love and closeness between brothers and sisters...we don't pay attention to the details...that it has to be done between 9 and 9:30 am or gold rakhi. All of that doesn't matter.

But that is my family and our traditions.

I love to hear different customs and traditions from a learning perspective!
