What was so special about Hum Tum?

Yes, this film got numerous awards and Rani/Saif acted good, but I still fail to see what was so special about this film. We have seen time and time again that good films turn into flops. And typical ordinary films go on to do hit business.

At the time when films were centered around the actors and the actresses running through the flowers and the trees, Hum Tum was different and refreshing. It wasn't sappy or overly dramatic or sentimental like ordinary Hindi flicks. It depicted Saif and Rani's evolving relationship throughout the span of nine years and the close bond that they come to form by the end of the movie in a very subtle and delicate way. Not your average Indian love story.

Oh, and a bold attempt to portray one-night-stand as something ordinary for a moderately conservative Indian girl too.

This could have been easily a trashy film, but Kunal Kohli's direction, Saif, Rani and Kiron Kher's performance, the beautiful cinematography saved it. The music could have been better.

Hum Tum wasn't that big a hit. It achieved more FF awards than expected. Could be the Chopra influence that did it. As much as I disliked VZ, I thought Yash Chopra deserved the best director award for that film.

Btw, what comes next? Salam Namaste or KANK?

for me, hum tum is one of my fav love stories. The thing tht was special bout the movie for me was saif-rani chemistry & both their acting :) i think the movie was really nicely executed & the songs were FANTASTIC! And obviously the sense of humour is one of teh reasons too :)

The reason why I loved LAK was because it reminded me of Hum Tum.

There have been movies that copied Hum Tum's style of love but failed of creating the magic. The reason why I liked Hum Tum was because it showed a true sense of reality on how relationship grow through out the years. How you can love someone but never have the guts to tell them until it's too late. Rani+Saif's acting was the best part of the movie. When Rani was telling her mom that she's leaving, I have cried so many times for that scene. It was real emotions that captured my heart.

Hum Tum was a Hit and it deserved that

yes hum tum was such a ordinary story, but saif and Rani made it extraordinary just by their acting, something ur Aish can never do!
