The Truth – Two sides of a Coin - part 2
"What? He knows Geet, he knows about…" Rajjo questioned after she got her brains back in order.
Geet stalled her from asking further by interrupting with, "You did not tell me how our brother is, Rajjo, is he studying well? Is he holding well with his health?"
Maan did not get distracted though. He sat next to Geet and then held her hand and asked Rajjo again, this time in a voice that brooked no diversion. He said, "What am I supposed to know, Rajjo. What is the connection between Geet, Canada and her almost getting killed? I know there is, that much I can make out. I want to know the truth." He then turned towards Geet, who seemed to be busy looking at the pattern of the floor.
He tilted her chin up and said, "Excuse us, I think my fiance and I need to have a talk," and he got up pulling Geet with him.
Geet went along with him to the other room and then hissed at him through her teeth, "Why did you say, you are my fiancee, here there is no Daadi to worry about. Why are you creating more problems, Maan?"
Maan put a hand on her mouth and said determinedly, "Chup! Stop trying to evade the question. I am not going to be diverted."
"What do you want to know Maan? Why do you want to know? What am I to you? Just a fake fiancee, why do you care what happened to me? Once my role is complete, I will look for another job and you will have no need to be burdened with me or a fake fiancee." She asked with fire in her eyes.
Dare she tell him the truth? Dare she tell him that was a woman who had been married to an already married guy who abandoned her after committing adultery, which at the time she had felt was the best night of her life? Dare she tell him that the night left not just a scar on her soul but also a seed, seed which almost cost her, her life? What would he say if she told him, I am pregnant? What will he do? Will he leave her to her devices? Will he feel tainted to be associated with her? Will he run away, run away for she was not the innocent girl he thought she was? Will he blame her for being the one who had entrapped him with her beguiling eyes to get maximum benefit out of him? Will he think she schemed to become his fiance albeit a fake one to get his money or worse a name for her child?
Babaji, please help me, she silently prayed closing her eyes.
Maan then pulled her to him and said, "Is that why you think I came behind you? Is that all you can think? Did you think I have come to ensure that my fake fiancee does not come to harm because what will I tell Daadima? Geet, is that what you really think is between us, just this fake fiancee, or you being my secretary? Do you not see what is between us? Why do you think I came here?"
Geet's mind was befuddled the minute he had pulled her close. She could not think straight when he was just a breath away. Oh why did he make her feel like this? Why did her body want to be close to him and when it was all coherent thought left her? She tried to take deep breaths but his fragrance hit her and she was even more muddled than she was before.
She tried to reply, "Uh..I …" and Maan just stopped her from a reply by kissing her. He needed to feel her, again. What was it that made him want her this way, what was it that made it harder for him to be the logical, clear headed person he usually was? What was it about his girl that affected him so much?
