Almost all of the Indian bowlers chipped in. Their batters, of course, set up the game earlier, and this is a moment all of these cricketers will now remember and savour for the rest of their lives. India are gold medalists in the women's cricket event at the Asian Games, and such was their dominance - today and throughout the comp - that it never seemed in doubt.

If you thought the win in the semi-final was commanding, well, this was on another level altogether. India scored more. They did it against a better side, and then they barely allowed SL a sniff. Shafali inflicted much of the powerplay damage before the rest of the bowlers followed suit. SL may have believed as long as Athapaththu was at the crease but once Deepti dismissed her (again), it was an arduous road back for SL.

India Women have won gold at the Asian Games for the second time, following their 2023 triumph.

India entered the tournament as overwhelming favourites and they have lived up to that expectation. The Asia Cup victory a week ago set things up and they always looked comfortable throughout the three games. They brushed aside Japan in the QF and then thumped both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka by massive margins. Today's win was once again set-up by the batters - Smriti Mandhana's 79 and her 99-run opening stand with Shafali Verma gave the impetus and then Richa Ghosh smashed a 22-ball 49* to ensure that the score was out of sight for the Sri Lankans. If the batting fired, the bowlers then ensured that Sri Lanka didn't come anywhere close in the chase. Chamari Athapaththu shone briefly, making a 21-ball 29, but the game was as good as over when her nemesis Deepti Sharma got rid of her. The middle-order imploded against spin and the tail was wiped away. Three wickets for Deepti and two each for Shafali, Shreyanka and Shree Charani - Presentations coming up shortly..
