Would you mind explaining why a person who is not serious not considered mature? What is the relationship between the two? May be seriousness should be selective and subjective?

Because babies and kids are never serious hence not mature..

calling an adult not mature becuase he isnt serious has nothing to do with his maturity levels but might need some sort of mental help? i maybe wrong?

OMG this comment is shocking 😲!! My dad is a jovial person, he is funny most of the time, but he is one of the most responsible person I have ever seen in my life, so you mean he needs mental help 😲?!?!

According to me, maturity is subjective and should be exercised according to circumstances, i.e., where required we should be mature and responsible. If a person is sensible enough to understand his/her responsibilies and know where to be mature and responsible, that is what is important. Like when I used to study, though I used to fool around a lot, but when it came to studies I always made sure I got decent marks. So that is what is important. Similarly when I am working, I do fool around a lot especially when I'm free, but I make sure my job is perfect. And that is what matters at a work place. Similarly when my parents need me, I'm always there for them. So as long as we know our responsibilties and are fulfiling them, what is wrong even if we are playful and fun loving rest of the time 😕?
From my personal experience, lot of people in India do think that 'seriousness and maturity is directly proportional', i.e., if your not serious that means you are not mature. But I totally disagree with this!

I think your two statements are contradicting each other.

@ green - Seriousness # (no correlation) to maturity level. Therefore, we can also say
not serious = can be mature
@ red - not serious = mental disability

Hope I am not confusing you... 😳

Relax brahh..

I think we need to expand by what level of seriousness is being talked about here..

Are we talking about general humour and being silly, there's nothing wrong with that since adults are allowed to be funny and it is a 'good' quality to make others laugh..like your dad//

@ red - Dewdrop, I am really intrigued by that statement. Has culture to do with such mentality? I have been living out of India last 25 yrs myself and I have been visiting India only since last 4 yrs.

Now I need to recollect my interactions with Indians in India and the FOB or relatively new to US. I need to go looking for FOB Indians to learn more about the present culture. Thanks for sharing yaar...😳😳😳 like to hear more...
