When someone is really good, there is less motivation for a person to vote. They assume they will be voted for.
When someone is not doing well then a person feels nervous and starts voting for them.

It's reverse psychology.

Also if we continue to insult Anuj, his supporters will be more motivated to have him win. That's what happened with Debojit. The underdog get's a lot of sympathy votes.

We should not blame the singers for the premise of the show.
This is a singing competition. Imagine how the indian voter votes for our politicians.
Now, that is more Scary!!!!!!!!
